What Do These Two Awardees Have in Common?
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
…And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
William Butler Yeats wrote The Second Coming just after the first World War but it is an apt commentary on almost everything, including President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize and Amira Hass’s upcoming Courage in Journalism Award.
Unsurprisingly, one of four Courage in Journalism awards to be presented by Christiane Amanpour and Irshad Manjie, among others, will go to the Israeli journalist, Amira Hass, whose critique of Israel constitutes a veritable Blood Libel. Hass describes Israel as an “apartheid” state. Her columns in Ha’aretz, a left-leaning Israeli newspaper, are often stomach-turning.
Hass is the daughter of Holocaust survivors and I have met a few such Israelis-on-a-Holy Mission who are absolutely obsessed with the Palestinians and truly see them as the “new Jews.” Perhaps they are, belatedly, trying to rescue their parents or their collective ancestors by focusing on the tragic plight of yet another people—and by so doing, perhaps unconsciously seeking “special” treatment for themselves in any future Islamist Reich.
In most interviews, Hass talks about her parents being Holocaust survivors. This is meant to explain why Hass refuses to take a “bystander” position. However, Hass’s parents were not only Holocaust survivors. They were also communist partisans who fought the Nazis in Sarajevo and Romania. Hass’s childhood was that of a “red diaper baby.” This is no crime nor do I mention this to defame Hass. But this kind of background explains why someone might view the world in black and white, have doctrinaire opinions, a slightly paranoid, conspiratorial view of Power, and an unshakeable belief in the purity of Victims.
No matter that Hass has sometimes also criticized certain Palestinian policies and leaders. She used to live in Gaza (and wrote about it) and she now lives in Ramallah. I wonder how many more Israelis could safely live in either Gaza or Ramallah….none, really. The areas are “judenrein.” But Hass is a “special” kind of Jewish Israeli—one even more useful than the South African jurist Richard Goldstone. She is worth more to the Palestinians and the Arab League alive than dead.
Please note that Hass has never been beaten or nearly killed by the Israeli government, nor has she spent long years in jail because of her writing. Israel is a democracy and allows freedom of the press. However, Hass tried to enter Gaza as part of an anti-Zionist “protest;” she was also arrested, briefly, when she tried to re-enter Israel from Gaza.
Three other female journalists are also being honored for their Courage in Journalism. Their experiences have been different. Jila Baniyaghoob is from Iran, and she has “been in prison four times as a fearless reporter and advocate for women. Her most recent arrest was in June, during the government crackdown on journalists and dissidents.” Agnes Tailie is from Cameroon, and her writing has “brought her threats, then a near fatal attack. She was abducted at gunpoint by three hooded men, beaten and left for dead in a ravine. She recovered and immediately went back to work.” Iryna Khalip is from Belarus. She has been “arrested, subjected to all-night interrogations and beaten by the police, who keep her under constant surveillance.” Thus, these three awardees have all been imprisoned, beaten, nearly killed, literally left for dead, presumably for their reportage by their own governments.
In her own words, in a document published by Unesco, Hass admitted:
“We Israelis enjoy the freedom of expression and information. There is no danger to our life and liberty if we expose corruption of a Prime Minister or a former minister of finance…(we are able to criticize the IDF and military actions too). It is true that Palestinians who are Israeli citizens enjoy a considerable freedom of speech and expression…this is not enough for a democracy. What about their economical rights, what about their collective rights as a national group–deterritorialized and dispossessed 60 years ago.”
This is a perfect example of why Hass does not deserve to share an award which is being given to women journalists who live in countries where such “freedom of expression” does not exist or where it means jail, torture, and perhaps death. And, please note the “red diaper baby” flying leap from a statement about freedom of speech right into a doctrinaire Marxist denunciation of Israel. As my friend Nechi Sirota has pointed out, “Hass knows she is safe in Israel and knows she is endangered in Gaza–even as she is fighting for their cause.”
One more thing. On December 23, 1996, in the pages of the Jerusalem Post, Judith Colp Rubin interviewed Amira Hass. Apparently, when Hass first moved to Gaza she felt “most comfortable (as a single woman) veiling her face, saying ‘it was not up to me to lead the feminist struggle in Gaza.” The same journalist being feted for standing up to Mighty Israel, could not, did not want to, stand up to the forces of Islamic fundamentalism in Gaza.
Hass’s refusal to go bare-faced, as she does in Israel, possibly endangered all those brave women and men in Gaza who initially resisted the veil and, in addition, wrote or talked about honor killings, forced marriage, child marriage, polygamy, and gay rights, subjects which Hass does not focus upon–and which do not exist in Jewish Israel except, sometimes, among Palestinian Israelis.
The International Women’s Media Foundation has organized this award which will take place on October 20th, 2009 at the Waldorf-Astoria. Guess who is the co-chair of the foundation’s board? Akwe Amosu, who is affiliated with George “Left” Soros’s very own Open Society Institute. Amanpour (whose anti-Zionism and pro-Islamism is very clear) is also on the Women’s Media Foundation Board. This foundation is a large, well funded enterprise with huge grants from the Howard G. Buffett and Ford Foundations, from the Bank of America, the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times Companies, as well as from many prominent do-gooders.
And, if you want to know who the Norwegians judges for the Peace Prize are, as well as their politics, please read my colleague Claudia Rossett’s piece HERE.

1. Gianni:The global addiction to ecologically dangerous oil funds the jihadic fight against the West. Saudi oil money has paid for censorship and lawfare galore but their most lasting harm has been their perversion of language and therefore of reality which makes it impossible for so many people, including the (ig)noble Norwegians and the Soros Ladies, to understand the truth of any matter.
Phyllis, this is a big THANK YOU for saying this clearly and loudly.
Oct 9, 2009 - 12:46 pm 2. George Jochnowitz:I am relieved to see you write this. Oil is a tragedy, both ecologically and politically. We have to say it out loud.
The Swedes, who award most Nobel Prizes, like the Norwegians, who award the Peace Prize, are ferociously anti-Zionist. Sweden does not have enough freedom of the press to criticize the newspaper Aftonbladet, which published unsubstantiated and untrue charges that Israel kills Arabs in order to harvest and sell their organs.
Oct 9, 2009 - 1:14 pm 3. logos1j1:Let us hope that Obama will feel freed by the Nobel Prize and will now dare to speak against the pointless, destructive behavior of Hamas, which is responsible for the deaths of its own civilians by firing its weapons from thickly populated areas, schools, mosques, and hospitals. Let us hope that Obama will now feel courageous enough to defeat Taliban. Let us hope that the Nobel Committee will regret its decision.
Alas, I am not very hopeful. Anti-Zionism is the most powerful political force on earth.
Has anyone taken the prize seriously since it was awarded to Yasser Arafat in 1994? It means nothing. The proper response to it now is to ignore it out of existence. We should say nothing about it at all, good or bad. Let the self-important morons who hand it out be met with nothing but dead silence.
Oct 9, 2009 - 1:59 pm 4. Norman Simms:Dear Phyllis
I was in a state of shock for several moments when the news came on late last night (our kiwi time) that Pres. Obama had been awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. For doing what? I first thought.
Then I thought, if they can give it to Yassar Arafat or Al Gore, then it can go to anyone.
But then, really, all the Peace awards in recent years at least have been political statements or acts, to urge on those who are in awkward positions in their own countries, or to groups who have done work in humanitarian relief. So what is this all about? To slap Bush and his supporters in the face? To knock another coffin of peace in the Middle East? To humiliate all those who understand that “peace” without justice is appeasement?

More troops for Afghanistan? What about Chicago? A city right now under siege. That’s where Mr. Obama should have exercised his peace-loving abilities. Isn’t it his city, Ophra’s city, the one he tried to get the Olympics for at the cost of over 1 million to the taxpayer?
Over 100,000 gang members (the large majority minorities, the larger minority Latins, many illegal), violence and drug sales totally out of control, large areas of the city out of reach to decent people.
Yes, Chamberlain, a real peace-loving fellow, should had also been awarded the Nobel Peace price. Same with Mr. Mahatma Gandhi. Some peace-loving people like Obama, end up causing more bloodshed, due to their myopic view of the world, that certain tyrants.
What a joke, politically motivated joke, this Nobel Peace prize has become, but again, everything is topsy-turvy.

Oct 10, 2009 - 12:28 am 9. rob:amira “the enabler” hass, the supposed defender of oppressed palestinian “rights”, would never dare make a fractional indictment of islamic palestinian apartheid served on her own people by her own people. after all, why risk her own safety and prestige for the possibility to improve her brethren’s plight under the thumb of hamas? after all, in true palestinian form, the palestinian people are merely a tool to be used against israel, not real, actual people whose lives matter. and amira plays her role as she has comfortably grown accustomed.
in the grand balance of things, it is much safer and favorable for amira to drag out the microscope to examine israel’s actions. yes, but when it comes to the true and egregious daily crimes against humanity palestinians commit toward both jew and their own people alike, she dutifully turns out the light and moves right along. nothing to see here.
Oct 10, 2009 - 1:01 am 10. “The level of comprehension and vision between the Nobel Prize Committee and conservatives is as wide as the Grand Canyon. Peace is not an object, it’s a process.”
Vivo, why then it is not called the Nobel Process Prize? The objective always was to work for peace. As Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson clearly did to win it before it became a political statement recently by the left.
This is clearly political preemption of the gross type. There is no even finesse in it. For how can now Nobel Peace Prize winner Hussein Obama send more troops to Afghanistan, attack Iran if necessary, defend ally Israel, or put Chavez where he belongs? They tagged him and weighed him with the phony prize, the 3rd time they make a statement against a strong America in less than 10 years, lame, anti-Israel Carter, hypocrite Gore (with his phony science and large home energy bill), and now Obama with his dangerous utopia.
Finally, I resent the interjection in American affairs by a group of the liberal academia in Norway, a country that would be speaking German today if the US had not intervened in World War II in Europe.
Oct 10, 2009 - 5:58 am 18. ricpic:What I want to know is this: what does the international Left have to do to make it clear to ordinary decent people that it is morally bankrupt?
The thing that is so maddening about this latest naked display of the big lie is that it will not wake right thinking types from their dream of “The Good Left” and the nobility of socialism.
Oct 10, 2009 - 6:02 am 19. Lynn:Yes, you have once again skillfully pointed out that even reality has become relative and the knowledge of good and evil is being covered by a blanket of impartiality. This beast that slogged toward Bethlehem has decided that the ability to choose between good and evil carries to much of a risk that we will choose good, so has plotted another course, and that is, there is no clear good and there is no clear evil. There just is. We are finding out that indeed the definition of ‘is’ depends on the beholder.
I also thought your analogy between modern Israel and the Nazi enforced Jewish ghettos you wrote about in a past article was spot on. The world seems to be fooled that Israeli is blocking people from entering, but the true fact is that Israel is being fenced in by those who believe in a god that calls for their annihilation.
Now it seems that awards given out to citizens that have accomplished great deeds is being diluted until it too becomes just a message without substance, accomplishments not necessarily required. Our words are not to be expected to have meaning, and our actions do not have to match our words. I think the compass has begun it’s spin.

“Peace is not an object, it’s a process.”
This next statement below is not a process?
“Obama has, as yet, done nothing to bring about world peace. What he has done is make a disquieting series of dhimmi-like gestures of appeasement towards the Islamic world, which clearly, the Norwegians believe will lead to or which already constitute “peace.””

Maybe the Grand Canyon was too small of an example. How about the distance from here to Andromeda?
Oct 10, 2009 - 6:54 am 23. ~Paules:Vivo for once is spot on. To the U.N. bureaucrats “peace” is always about “process.” Every crisis is an opportunity for another public display of moral vanity. It’s all talk, all the time, with never a thought about results.
Vivo is twice right in one comment! American conservatives demand something meaningful, like maybe “peace with security.” We recognize that someone is going to live with the results of U.N. decision making, but it’s never the elites who pontificate from on high. Leftists like Vivo prefer the easy path of sentiment to the reality of consequences.
The peace prize carries with it no honor. It’s become a scarlet letter that clearly identifies the bearer as an enabler of tyranny. Only the morally obtuse or the intellectually vacuous would accept such an award.
Oct 10, 2009 - 6:59 am 24. steve:This “prize” diminishes Obama’s stature even further than one could have imagined or hoped for.

Oct 10, 2009 - 7:29 am 27. steve:Here’s a picture of Obama’s favorite quartback Donovan McNabb. It was taken 4 years ago when McNabb starting making unfounded racial accusations against criticisms concerning his ability to think and play under under pressure.
Mcnabb makes these accusations or should I sat threats that any crticism of his lack of knowledge or inability to make on field decisions were the result of white racism. This is right out of Obama’s playbook.
Stick it Donnie! You seem like a perfect candidate for black liberationism. Anybody who knew Obama 4 years ago was not just a bandwagon jumper but also believed and knew about his anti-white hatred with his black liberationist church. McNabb is from Chicago. This Obama connection coincides with the time McNabb starting playing the anti-white hate card.

My favorite example is the fact that the Nobel Committee never awarded the Literature prize to Jorge Luis Borges, one of the worlds towering literary figures. The chief reasons Borges was always passed over were that he was a conservative and a dedicated anti-Peronist. Needless to say the Nobel Committee is made of of people who are mesmerized by figures like the thuggish “socialist” Peron and his crackpot wife. As a result the committee could cheerfully and sanctimoniously ignore one of the great writers of the twentieth century in favor of recipients with far less stature and far less talent.

“Hass” means “hatred” in German. Pretty symbolic, isn’t it? (Being an Ashkenazi, she definitely knows it). No wonder she writes for Ha’aretz.
Fortunately for us, Ha’aretz is one of the typical communist newspapers that have good funding but small readership (Europe is still full of such relics from the USSR-times, funded, partially, by the same Soros, btw). It is quoted all the time, it’s editorials and polls are sold as relevant, but it’s sheer zero in Israel.
I would say it’s a PSEUDO-NEWS PAPER. It’s goal never was the reflection of the facts. It was founded to influence Israeli opinion and to push it to the far left. The second mission was to be “the voice of Israel abroad”. No matter how Israelis vote, AP, AFP, TASS, Reuters or Xinhua will say it’s NOT WHAT THEY REALLY THINK, because HA’ARETZ (here we should fall on our knees) says the opposite.
Europe BOYCOTTS the Jerusalem Post (as we were told by one of the staffers – and that’s true: the majority of the Euros has never heard about such a newspaper) but quotes Ha’aretz all the time. And we are speaking about the s.c. “WEST”… No need to say what the main “source of information” (aka. “source to quote our opinion”) about Israel is in the OPENLY communist countries.
Should we wonder that a SOROS-FUNDED organization gives a prize to a PSEUDO-JOURNALIST of a PSEUDO-NEWSPAPER?

Why not eliminate all “dimwits” (vivo designated disagreeable jealous conservatives)? The distance could then be said to be infinite, or better yet from your point of view, non-existent. Would the world then be a better place?

Mmm Mmm Mmm Barack Hussein Kool-aid. This link has all the people whom should have earned this honor. The Nobel peace prize is decided on February 12th so he either won this for not being bush. Or for great campaign speeches he does not deserve this at all when there were actual people with decades of hard work for creating peace not just being super libral dreamy. There have only been 3 presidents to earn this honor. Woodrow Wilson for creating the league of nations which led to the UN. Theodore Roosevelt for negotiating peace between Russia and Japan in the japanese/russian war. And our dear leader for not being bush and making pretty speeches. When Yasser Arafat won this award I thought it was dead, but I was wrong they just nailed the final nail in the coffin today. Now the award can equate to finding a free toy in the bottom for your cereal.

The criticism is that people, regardless of political filiation, wonder WHY he was given the award. It can’t be for actual accomplishments because he hasn’t achieved anything positive.
Was it for rhetoric? We all know that promises and expansive idealism is easy to emote..in speeches and blockbuster epic films. But these are fiction. Not actual fact.
Therefore, we wonder why the Committee gave him the award for his rhetoric – which has achieved nothing positive..but has led to increasing the power of the anti-peace and aggressive nations (Russia, Iran,Venezuala, etc).
Peace is most certainly an object, understanding ‘object’ in its grammatical sense as ‘that to which we work towards’. It is not a process, but a final result. And as this final result it is a ’state of being’. It is, moreover, an almost impossible goal because our biological reality is one of constant interactive change..which does result in tensions and conflict.
Oct 10, 2009 - 11:19 am 44. Paul M Hupf:The President will be unable to restrain himself now. Those around him with access to his ear will unceasingly remind him of this Nobel “prize” and how he is “saving the world from war and chaos. And those who are adversaries of the United States and of Israel will give him promises they do not mean to keep. He will believe them to our disadvantage and, most likely, serious harm.
Oct 10, 2009 - 11:21 am 45. Marina:BELARUS … CNN …
We have friends, run-aways from Belarus. And they told us: NEVER TRUST CNN!!! They have something like CNN-Russia or whatever transmitted to Belarus. And those CNN-b…es have NEVER told the truth about anti-Lukashenko protests or about what really is going on in Belarus, how people disappear forever or become disabled for the rest of their lives just for opposing the COMMUNISM. THAT’s not the reason for an outcry for CNN (well, the Israeli self-defence, i.e. “war crimes” – that’s another story: how many correspondents cover it actually? 3-4 plus Amanpour occasionally?): “Communism good, Capitalism bad” – that’s the REAL CNN agenda.
(As far as I remember people in HONDURAS have recently had the same experience with CNN)
So: a CNN-wh…re giving a prize to a Belarus anti-Communist – there’s something fishy here.

Oct 10, 2009 - 11:26 am 47. Marina:Now, CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR…
Many sweet words are coming to my mind to express my deepest feelings about her (now we all should prostrate). Unfortunately, “Pamajas” don’t want to publish them anymore. Whatever.
“God’s Warriors” (= anti-Christian, anti-Semitic, pro-Islamistic jawdropping PROPAGANDA) and her pro-Commie-North-Korea LIES (”they don’t have any nuclear stuff anymore!”) a week or so before the truth about the N-Korea co-build reactor in Syria came out… How can this filthy lying m… f… b… STILL sell herself as a JOURNALIST?????? Oh, sorry, the MSM CONSISTS of such m… f… b…es ONLY…
CNN m… f… rules!
- In Cuba, N-Korea, Belarus, China, Vietnam, Laos, Kambodja and all of the communist “paradises” declaring themselves “democracies”. NOBEL PRIZE FOR “COMMUNISM PROMOTED AS DEMOCRACY” TO CNN !!!!!!
- In Hamastan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Hisbollebanon, Indonesia, Sudan and all the islamist “paradises” declaring themselves “democracies”. NOBEL PRIZE FOR “ANTI-SEMITISM PROMOTED AS HUMAN RIGHTS” TO CNN !!!!!
And CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR is the NEW MOTHER TERESA.
Oct 10, 2009 - 11:45 am 48. Violet:Amanpour is anti-Zionist and pro-Islamism? It has never occured to me.
Oct 10, 2009 - 11:54 am 49. Dave:When Paul Krugman won the economics Nobel last year there was some question as to whether it was for his achievements in economics or Bush bashing. Now the cat is clearly out of the bag. Sure they are different committees, but there is a very virulent strain of BDS in Europe, and the temptation to give an award to Bush’s most vocal economist critic was probably irresistible.
Oct 10, 2009 - 11:55 am 50. Perry:Palestinians are NOT the “new Jews”. Jews were never beggars waiting for others to take them out of their difficulties.

Altogether I am still no thinking that appeasing Thugs means be peaceful – it rather means Something else.
Let’s talk about 14 Centuries of Jihad, Slavery Trade, Genocides, Discrimination … committed by “the Religion of Peace”; and then create “the Truth Nobel Price” for those who dare to talk about that.

Oct 10, 2009 - 1:01 pm 53. Hans Moleman:Obama has indeed earned the prize. He has placed the world’s only superpower firmly in the appeasement camp. This has been the Western left’s greatest foreign policy goal, and Obama has delivered on it.
Meanwhile, Iran arms itself for the coming annihilation of 6 million Jews, and the world prepares iself by stigmatizing Israel and legitimizing anti-Semitism.
Oct 10, 2009 - 1:33 pm 54. Sherab Zangpo:Are today’s laughable evil clowns worthy the lofty comment by Yeats ?
Probably not, but thank you for publishing those deep words.
The hammering of evil at the gates of the Shining City on the hill is so continuous now that words can no longer be heard, only noise: Yeats’ thundering words therefore are a spiritual balm.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
Oct 10, 2009 - 1:51 pm 55. eon:The Nobel Peace Prize, like most awards given by European committees for things other than actually making a scientific discovery (that is also a repeatable experiment), is basically a way for those who regard themselves as an “enlightened elite’” to give pats on the back to others they regard as being cut from the same cloth. The main criterion apparently being the willingness to express an avowed dislike, if not outright hatred, of Western civilization as a whole.
Those who hand out such Kewpie Dolls believe themselves to be so superior to the rest of us that if they were ever to get their wish, and see our civilization erased from the face of the Earth and the pages of history, they would somehow survive without it, to build their post-modern, post-logic, mystical, “feelings-based” Utopia on the ruins. Because they don’t need the rest of us, and we frankly annoy them.
As for those who receive such party favors, they for the most part tend to emulate Sally Field at the Oscars, basically exclaiming “You like me, right now, you really like me!”- and redouble their efforts to win more approval from the same crowd, because they just couldn’t bear it if that crowd would ever stop “liking” them.
My guess is that The One will, like Al Gore, use this as a justification for continuing to exaggerate his accomplishments, in the “hope” of browbeating the rest of us into submission to his “vision”.
To Him, it’s just another chance to use his final and clinching argument with anyone who dares to disagree with Him; I Won.

What’s next, stoning women in short-shorts and blowing up Prius’s?

Since many Dr.’s will either retire or quit he wants an aa DR. assigned to his location.
If he has a complaint he will call the government.
This is comical, he states ““You can keep on bending over and grabbing your ankles”.

According to Nobel’s will, the Peace Prize should be awarded “to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.” Alfred Nobel’s will stated that the prize should be awarded by a committee of five people elected by the Norwegian Parliament.
Unlike the other Nobel Prizes, which recognize completed scientific or literary accomplishment, the Nobel Peace Prize may be awarded to persons or organizations that are in the process of resolving a conflict or creating peace.

The award is given in 2009 for work done in the preceding year and Mr. Obama was only in office a few months when he was nominated. It was given to people in the past who had no desire for peace, and it is given now to people who do not have to accomplish anything only vague intentions and flowery speeches.
Even the Left should be somewhat alarmed that the President of the United States is to be under pressure from the rest of the world to solve the world’s problems, a task that the United States and it’s people cannot possibly accomplish. They have given him a mandate and the world is watching while they lift nary a finger to help, as usual.
Why would anyone want the President of the United States to be the President of the World. It just gives the rest of the leaders an excuse to do nothing, while they can blame any mistakes or missteps on our country, something we have experienced many times in the past.
We are denied recognition or our accomplishments and our mistakes are held up to the floodlights of examination and critique while they get away with doing NOTHING.
The quandary that Israel finds itself is the same with the larger world expecting from them exactly what they are unwilling to do themselves.
That the people of the United States with our past of fighting for every square inch of freedom we enjoy can’t see this, is an indication of our unwillingness to come together for a common good. Can we be so stupid that we would be fooled into thinking their false approval of the election is anything other than agreement that we hold the exclusive responsibility of being the world’s babysitter always to blame when the children misbehave.

I’ve read somewhere, it is called “The Troyan Horse strategy”. You present a neutral, pretty mainstream message and insert a small bit of biased information nobody actually agrees with. But this info-unit is so small, that everybody TOLERATES it. It can be a whole report about human rights abuse in China plus a little lie: “But it’s not as bad as it used to be”, e.g. Now, who will challenge the authors about just one sentence, if we all are grateful for the major report? What “de stoooopid odiens” (aka. us) doesn’t know, this “just one sentence” actually IS the real message. Repeated (UNCHALLENGED!!!!!) enough times – and the modern MSM are best way organized for it – it becomes a reality.
I’ve read the Eco-Nazis have used this strategy to insert the “Global warming” hoax into so many heads. Totally unchallenged small messages inserted into honest big ones, years after years. When critical minds woke up, it was too late. Everybody had already got so acquainted with the idea, that it was publicly accepted, UNQUESTIONED. And when this happened, Al Gore came out and said: “The discussion is over. Everything is proven. The science (= the majority of scientists – poor Einstein) agrees about global warming: it exists. The Man-Bear-Pig is comming”. Over and out.
Soros and his MSM minions actually want to make women like Hass the real face of “endangered critical journalism”. Today it’s still hard to sell, so: insert her as a Troyan Horse. Then another one, and another one. I’m sure, there are already many of them in the history of this and similar awards.

A lying device, playing on human psychology, reminiscent of a lying device elaborated by Adolph Hitler in Mein Kampf and liberally employed by today’s progressives, actively engaged in changing the face of America, through big lies disguised as truths, as we speak.
All of PJM’s trolls are in the grips of the “big lie”
From the (infamous) wikipedia…
“…in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously…For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.”
Oct 11, 2009 - 8:20 am 79. MiamaMan:Liberalism, leftism, is a great refuge for the frustrated and the insane. Is it a mental malady as Ann Coulter and Jamie Glazov recently stated, and Eric Hoffer a while back hinted? Yes, definitely.
Not that “we are” all sane. Insanity, mental insanity, is very prevalent in the world in this 21th century. It has, by some estimates, quadrupled in the last 100 years.
The Mother (Mirra Alfassa, b. Paris 1878, d. Pondicherry, Sri Aurobindo Ashram, 1973, by race Sephardi Jew) defined illness (mental or not) as an expression of a lack of equilibrium. She added that the real disease is FEAR, all the way down to the cells (fear of death at the forefront). Finally, it is FAITH that cures. Illnesses within the body are verily a concentration of ignorance, a refusal by a certain part or organ to “understand”, to come to grips with reality.
For the liberal far left, the real has become surreal. How can one explain, if not as a mental disorder, the flirtations of a Susan Sontag with Stalin, then Mao, the overtures of a Shirley McLane with Chou En Lai’s China (this fellow traveler, after living for a few months in a Potemkin hotel in China, did not want to return to the US, but finally did, ha, ha), the cavorting of Hanoi Jane in Viet-Nam, the dancings of Sean Penn with mass-murderer Fidel Castro, the praises of a Noam Chomsky for Iran, or finally, Ms. Amira Hass?
Friends, make no mistake, the liberal loonies worship death. Don’t be fooled, they are a death cult in disguise. They don’t give a hoot for the poor either, no, they just dress and act like them for a purpose, temporarily, then drink Champagne and give prizes to one another.
Oct 11, 2009 - 9:56 am 80. logos1j1:MiamaMan 79,
Once again you’ve hit the nail on the head: “…the liberal loonies worship death… they are a death cult….” This is made obvious in their sacramental initiation rite: “abortion.” (Getting them for women, performing or paying for them for men.) This is the one thing on which no leftist is allowed to disagree, the one thing to be defended above ALL ELSE: that so many fetuses as they can kill, they must kill. They will tell many lies to accomplish this: that the fetus is not alive. (Well, of course he or she is alive. He or she feeds, breathes, grows, excretes. That’s life.) That “it” is not human. (Of course he or she is human. He or she couldn’t possibly be anything else!) That “it” is not yet a “person?” (Who defines that?! (What does it even mean? I submit that most of those who use this “argument” have no clear idea of what they mean, and if they tried to define it they might well find themselves without “personhood.”) And anyway newborns are no different than fetuses in this respect, nor the comatose, nor many of the severely retarded.) Well, then the woman’s body must be her own. (Yes, of course. Except the fetus is not the woman’s body, it is IN her body. Except suicide and drug use are illegal and vaccines are often mandatory, and this is not condemned by the left on this account. Except that there are and must be any number of restrictions on what we can and cannot do with our bodies (men, women and children) especially when there is harm or risk of harm coming to others by so doing – as in “abortion.” And most to the point EXCEPT IN CHINA WITH THEIR FORCED ABORTION AND STERILIZATION LAWS which have never been condemned by radical feminists or the far left.) Why? Because the murder of the fetus is the baptism of blood by which one enters their religion, by which that religion is sustained ideologically and (at least to some extent) financially, by which its flames of rage are fanned to ever greater heights, and by which its adherents are almost irrevocably captured: for once one has participated in murder it is almost impossible for the human psyche to accept this fact; therefore it must be forever denied as being murder and never repudiated.
The term “abortion” itself is a little lie hidden among the colossal lies listed above. The word abort simply means to end something. But the term “abortion” intentionally disguises what it is that has been ended: a human life. And that is MURDER.
But what is really at the root of this death-cult? It is the hatred of God. As Proverbs 8:36 says, “All those who hate Me love death.” This is why they attempt to superimpose their own artificial “morality” in place of Truth and give governments absolute power over the people they are supposed to protect. The fact that their entire ideology is a stack of lies piled upon lies makes it inevitable that they will be forever self-contradictory: so “power to the people” means absolute power of the government over the people, gulags, mass starvation, mass execution, etc., “equality” means a permanent ruler class and a permanent proletariate, “workers unite” means spy on your neighbor and tattle to the government, and the defense of fetal murder is justified by the same ideological movement as a woman’s right to her body in one country, while forced abortions are “necessary for the common good” in another.
Oct 11, 2009 - 1:57 pm 81. jed dem:I love watching conservative heads explode over this one. The president of the US is given a Nobel prize and all they can do is scream about how awful it is! Pu-lease folks. Get a grip. We are all Americans in this, and when they give a Nobel prize to our country we should all be honored.
Give me a break folks. Yes, you are all angry that Obama is a bit more liberal than you like. If you don’t like the way things are going, you can try to win it back at the ballot box. Name call all you want. Declare that the democrats are murderers or evil or communist or whatever. Keep doing it. Yell louder. You only alienate more of the middle and isolate yourselves on the screechy bitter right.
Oct 11, 2009 - 3:28 pm 82. MiamaMan:80. logos1j1:
Thanks for your explanation.
And yes, you are totally correct on the abortion issue, for at first I wanted to add that as an example, but forgot. You expanded upon their cult of death very well using abortion as the cornerstone.
If Israel were to use a nuclear bomb against Iran, then, after the first outcry, you could see the “usual suspects” now flock to Israel, and use whatever logic is necessary to do so. For, as Jamie Glazov masterfully explained, they flock to “those who kill the most”. Thus, many of them abandoned the Soviet Union after Stalin’s death for Mao’s China (Susan Sontag).
This death cult verily hates God. Behind them are the ancient forces of darkness, which have been aptly called the Devil. Their objective is none other than the destruction of humanity, thus the failure of the Spirit. Human beings, in this stage and age, left to their own devices, are alone usually no match for such cunning and malefic influences, and once and again, succumb to the forces of evil. That’s why Spirituality is paramount, and keeping always the Thought on the Almighty Father, the vaccine that clear the dross of doubts.

In July, independents were evenly divided in their party voting preferences, whereas last fall they showed a clear preference for the Democrats”

That’s why they hated, could not fathom, Sarah Palin. How dare she keep a Down Syndrome baby?
I belong to a group that believes that the incarnating soul has a saying in the parent they choose (not totally, mistakes occur often), so Trig Palin’s Psychic Being (soul) must be a successful one, as he entered nearly perfect parents, who will love him and allow him to work out his karma as chosen this time around. For Trig Palin:
1) Is a full human being, and must be protected as any other.
Oct 11, 2009 - 5:45 pm 87. TG:2) Is only diminished in perception in this incarnation due to his genetic illness, but there is a reason for it.
3) Should not be discriminated against, interfered upon, harmed, or killed before being born.

They made fun of Palin because of the interview where she couldn’t construct a coherent sentence. Be honest, she is not our strong-point.
If we conservatives want to compete for votes in the future we have to compete on real issues. This insane level of vitriol is not helpful. I really like McCain’s attitude in this respect — his main devotion is to his country: Get things done for our country. Fight on occasion when necessary. You are correct, the problem is just that they did not care a hoot about Trig. It was all hypocrisy.
2) [If we conservatives want to compete for votes in the future we have to compete on real issues.]
So, I gather abortion is not a real issue for you, got you, thanks. Are you really a conservative?

As defined by who? You? OK.
3) [I really like McCain’s attitude in this respect — his main devotion is to his country: Get things done for our country.]
Sure, great things for our country, like allowing Obama to win, not calling him for what he is, a fraud (refer to his so-called autobiography). Very good.
4) [But name calling and finger pointing is always counter productive.]
OK, shall we leave all that to ACORN, Axelrod, community organizers et al? Then we will lose the country.

What happened to global warming?
Average temperatures have not increased for over a decade
This headline may come as a bit of a surprise, so too might that fact that the warmest year recorded globally was not in 2008 or 2007, but in 1998.
But it is true. For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.
And our climate models did not forecast it, even though man-made carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise.
So what on Earth is going on?
Climate change sceptics, who passionately and consistently argue that man’s influence on our climate is overstated, say they saw it coming.
They argue that there are natural cycles, over which we have no control, that dictate how warm the planet is. But what is the evidence for this?
During the last few decades of the 20th Century, our planet did warm quickly. But the two last 200 hours year periods it cooled meaning simply Climate countless Cycles has changed like a clock since Time began .
Recent research has ruled out solar influences on temperature increases
Oct 12, 2009 - 9:46 am 96. David S:Sceptics argue that the warming we observed was down to the energy from the Sun increasing. After all 98% of the Earth’s warmth comes from the Sun.
But research conducted two years ago, and published by the Royal Society, seemed to rule out solar influences.
The scientists’ main approach was simple: to look at solar output and cosmic ray intensity over the last 30-40 years, and compare those trends with the graph for global average surface temperature.
And the results were clear. “Warming in the last 20 to 40 years can’t have been caused by solar activity,” said Dr Piers Forster from Leeds University, a leading contributor to this year’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
But one solar scientist Piers Corbyn from Weatheraction, a company specialising in long range weather forecasting, disagrees.
He claims that solar charged particles impact us far more than is currently accepted, so much so he says that they are almost entirely responsible for what happens to global temperatures.
He is so excited by what he has discovered that he plans to tell the international scientific community at a conference in London at the end of the month.
If proved correct, this could revolutionise the whole subject.
Ocean cycles
What is really interesting at the moment is what is happening to our oceans. They are the Earth’s great heat stores.

Krauthammer’s self-contradictory attempt at justifying the notion that America owns the world is just another piece of evidence that the conservative movement has lost all contact with reality. First he claims nothing is inevitable, and in the next paragraph he cites an example of inevitable decline. He couldn’t be less coherent if he tried.
His twisted logic implies that morality can be imposed at the end of a gun, and that this is not only acceptable, but preferable to diplomacy. The truth is that American military dominance is not a sustainable means to ensure global prosperity.
The moral leadership America offers the world is in the ideas and ideals that we embody – we lost our role as the world’s moral leader by violating our own standards, and the only way to rebuild American prestige is to return to the truths upon which our country was founded.
This kind of hand-wringing is expected from folks like Krauthammer, who really have no deep appreciation for American values.
Peace.

@96. David S: – Krauthammer’s self-contradictory attempt …
Ooops! Assumes facts not in evidence. Fail.
- … justifying the notion that America owns the world …
Ooops! Straw man fallacy. Can’t seem to function without them, can you, Zippy. Fail. Again.
- First he claims nothing is inevitable, …
Oooops! Cherry-picked, as usual. Thanks for responding like one of Pavlov’s dogs and doing exactly what I suggested, like the obedient little marxist useful idiot you are.
Nothing is inevitable with respect to America’s future. Read it again for comprehension, Zippy. Actually, don’t bother, your infantile intellect is never going to comprehend that notion. Fail.
- His twisted logic implies that morality can be imposed at the end of a gun, …
Ooops!! That’s YOUR blind assumption, Zippy. And your assumption is made doubly incoherent by the historically demonstrated fact that the imposition of collectivist ‘morality’ you blindly and consistently promote always requires the end of a gun. Fail. Again.
- … we lost our role as the world’s moral leader …
Nothing is lost. If we choose to give up this role, the cause has already been identified: it’s exactly the one you keep getting schooled with here over and over.
- … by violating our own standards …
The standards of individual liberty and individual responsibility – the antithesis of socialism. Yes.
As the U.S.A. has become more socialist during the last 70+ years – beginning with FDR’s so-called “New Deal”, followed by LBJ’s so-called “Great Society” and his gift of the Vietnam War, the Bushes’ “compassionate conservatism” (a.k.a. socialism-lite), Clinton’s hypertaxation and wag-the-dog foreign policy, and now BHO’s narcissistic plan to seize control over our entire economy and turn America into a third-world, socialist wasteland – we’ve gotten deeper in debt, less free, less respected and more hated abroad, less united and more conflicted within, less geopolitically secure, fatter, more apathetic, more corrupt and generally dumber. You’re living proof.
- … the only way to rebuild American prestige …
You’re worried about prestige? Well let’s see…
On the one hand we have Dr. Charles Krauthammer, M.D.: world-renowned and acclaimed psychiatrist and Pulitzer-winning author. On the other hand we have you, Zippy – a product of six wasted years of unsuccessful education who sits in his co-op apartment swilling beer and waiting for a ride to the bar for his next gig.
Gee… it’s a tough call, but I’ll have to go with the Doc on this.
What does Dr. K. have to say about prestige in the article you only skimmed? Who seeks “prestige”? In this case, regimes like North Korea and Iran. No surprise that – by your own admission – this also includes pathetic, contemptible little frogwits like you, Zippy.
David S = Fail. Again.

Now, goy, gay, guy . . . Let me help. When David S wrote, “We lost our role as the world’s moral leader by violating our own standards.” I assumed he meant little things like “America doesn’t torture people.” I’m sure you thought the same, but knowing you could not defend or argue that point, you chose to dig down to the bottom of your bag of Hannity Inanity and pull out some random talking point. Nothing to do with anything. Well done! That’s exactly the kind of logic that throws misanthropelosicus into a tight-fisted salute of moist conservative ecstasy.
You simply must pay more attention. This game is not for the faint of heart or the wobbly of intellect.

Oct 13, 2009 - 6:29 am 107. Abby:Phyllis,
I think Amira Hass is an ideal candidate to receive this prize. I find her reporting accurate and well-founded. She’s a courageous journalist – going where others fear to go, confronting the powers that be on all sides, Israeli and Palestinian. I’ve seen footage of her confronting the Palestinian leaders and holding them accountable for their promises to their people. It’s exactly as you said: “Hass has sometimes also criticized certain Palestinian policies and leaders.”
I’m Jewish, and I believe Israel is an apartheid state, strictly separating Jews and Palestinians – building an 8-meter-high separation wall; building Jewish-only roads; demolishing Palestinian homes and allowing Jews to live there; having different laws for Jewish and Palestinian Israelis.
Your commentary is misleading. For example: Ramallah and Gaza are not “Judenrein.” – this word refers to areas from which the Nazis got rid of Jews, expelling them. Israeli Jews chose not to live in Palestinian towns – they were not expelled from them. There never was a large number of Jews in either town to begin with.
I object to your personal attack on Hass. Object to her opinions, by all means, but this is uncalled for: Hass is “perhaps unconsciously seeking “special” treatment for themselves in any future Islamist Reich.”
