Home Grown Terrorism in America: Connecting the Dots

A Dangerous Denial

The New York Times does not tell us whether Tareq Mehanna, the 27-year-old Massachusetts pharmacist who was just arrested on federal terrorism charges, is or even might be a Muslim. In their pages, telling this particular truth is still verboten, politically incorrect, rude, racist, a cheap shot, even “Islamophobic.”

Look: Mehanna might have traveled to Pakistan, Syria, and Yemen (which he did) because, as a relatively young man, he just wanted to sow his wild oats. No matter that Mehanna and his “associates,” including one Ahmad Abousamra who subsequently fled to Syria, had traveled together “seeking training from terrorist groups to fight against American soldiers.” No matter that Mehanna had tried to buy a gun from one Daniel Maldonado who is “currently serving a 10-year-prison sentence for training with Al Qaeda in Somalia. “

Why should the Times suggest that Mehanna’s motivation might be related to Islamic jihad? That hypothesis would tarnish an entire religion, an entire people. It can’t be true—but even if it is true, it’s too troubling and unpleasant a truth. Why connect the dots when you can continue to confuse people?

Well, as the Danish Mohammed Cartoon controversy has so ably demonstrated, not all religions are equal. If someone flies planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon—better not blame it on the Saudis or on Islamic jihadists, especially if they are guilty. People who are capable of such acts won’t like such accusations. They might sue you or kill you or blow up your kids. Anyway, it’s better not to think this way, better not to descend to the level of people who believe that Islamic terrorists have declared war against all non-Muslims, (against other Muslims too), especially against those who live in America and Israel.

That’s a really unfashionable philosophy of life.

Ironically, David Rohde, the Times reporter who was captured by the Taliban and kept for seven months could have used a clearer understanding about both al-Qaeda and the Taliban; Daniel Pearl might have benefited from a more unfashionable philosophy too.

I have been reading David Rohde’s front page Times series about his captivity in Afghanistan. Rohde kept hoping that “his” captors were the good Taliban, not the bad Taliban. Like Ann Frank, Rohde desperately desired to believe that people are really good, or at least that some people, even kidnappers, even religious fanatics, even highway brigands, are also really good; c’mon, aren’t some of them, at least some of the time?

Remember, Phyllis, Al-Qaeda has allies. Countries which support it, Hamas, Hezbullah, and all the other groups that use green a lot and have been called, “Sons of Allah”.

So, it is very easy for Oil Money from the Mid East to come into the ole gray lady promising to keep it from the fate of the Rocky Mountain News, or other newspapers that faded away into the past, but there is a price.

Then again, seeing that the Muslim template is
very much like the template of the Rudderless
Revisionists (the outsiders are not allowed to
influence those on the inside, and communication can only go from inside to outside in the form of conversion, dhimmitude
or execution), birds of a feather have been known to flock together.

Oct 22, 2009 - 8:44 pm 2. George Atkisson:

You must remember that to many on the left, lies, outrageous demands, and a vision of the ‘other’ as evil incarnate, are business as usual. Whether believed or not, these are simply tools to gain power. Without any religious faith themselves, they simply see radical Islam as just another group saying or doing whatever gets them power. It always comes as a surprise to the David Rohde’s of the world that radical Islam sincerely believes everything they say.

The New York Times believes that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Radical Islam believes that the enemy of my enemy is also my enemy. Those who share the Times philosophy will die screaming, “This can’t be happening! I don’t understand! We supported you!” Their executioners won’t bother to answer.

Thanks.

To understand this trend among the “politically correct” left one must plumb the depths of the collective unconscious to interview the phantoms/archetypes of death, decay, masochism, suicide.

This is media “seppuku”.

This politically-correct approach, like a subtle infection, spreads and contaminates others. So even Fox News, reported yesterday that people who knew Tareq Mehanna were so surprised as he looks your “average Joe”; and no, he doesn’t, he looks your “average Jihadist”. This is a very misleading statement, that tries to dilute and destroy a powerful collective image, soon a lady with a Burqa may look “your average Joan”.

Geert Wilders is now speaking at several American universities. He has noticed, and said so, how rapid Islamism is advancing in this country, the Obama’s administration being fertile ground for its growth.

Phyllis, what do you expect from the TImes? I’d bet good money they RECEIVE money from Saudi Arabia thru CAIR.

Hell, CAIR, the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas , and the rest of the cabal of Satanic Islamist filth provide tens of millions of dollars of support for the liberal arts and humanities programs of about every significant college in this country in order to promulgate the education of useful idiots to support the Jihad.

If the Times itself doesn’t receive money directly, the so-called journalists that infest the place had their educations provided BY the Jihad so of course they are sympathetic. It’s paying off in Spades, too.

I swear we are in some kind of sick version of the Wizard of Oz – Look at what kind of garbage is in the White House now. Liars, and traitors and pedophiles, oh my. The only kind of Emerald City they envision is the one with green Hamas flags flying over every building in DC.

When Manuel Zelaya, the deposed president of Honduras, now living in the Brazoilian Embassy in Tegucigalpa, called radio stations and said that “Israeli commandos had been hired to kill him; he is being secretly poisoned by gas and radiation,” the NYTimes hid those words in the middle of an article continued in the middle of the paper. When the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet wrote a cock-and-bull story about Israelis shooting Palestinians in order to harvest their organs, the Times had nothing to say. On the other hand, they did run an op-ed denouncing the Goldstone report.

MiamaMan,
“This is media seppuku.” Nothing so stylized and purposeful. More like the Wiley Coyote racing off a cliff without looking. One day they’ll blink their eyes, look down, and realize their doom: but by then it’ll be too late. Unless the rest of us actually manage to save Western society in spitie of them. Idiots.

Phyllis,
On the ticker tape at the bottom of a Fox News show it said that 250 missles were shot into Israel yesterday. This type of news is not even reported on Fox. I know this is going off the subject and yet perhaps it isn’t. Things are happening and we have little access to information. It is very frightening.

A glimmer of hope. A true story:

Near my home, here in MiamA, the lady who works in the Goodwill trailer is from Honduras. She is an American citizen who barely speaks English and voted for Obama. For months I taunted her for her political choice, and she responded by blaming former President Bush. A few days ago, while unloading some books, and to my surprise, she came and said: “you were right, you were right, I will never vote for Obama again”, and continued to qualify Obama in Spanish words that I dare not translate here. Bottom line for her: Obama’s support for Zelaya.

2 things are needed to defeat Obama (Machiavellically speaking):

1) Even though Obama ain’t African American, take his word for it, and promote a schism between Hispanic and black voting blocks. Stress Zelaya, family values, race and history. Propose specific immigration reforms. Prevent Pelosi et al from being a forward voice on the immigration issue.

2) Concentrate on the Independents, who last time voted Obama in. Those Walmart moms, the semi-liberal small business owners, those expecting a utopia in race relations to come down from the sky, facing now the opposite, the liberal Jews now facing the possible destruction of Israel.

Dr. Chesler writes that at the New York Times, “telling this particular truth is still verboten, politically incorrect, rude, racist, a cheap shot, even ‘Islamophobic.’” That’s putting words in their mouth. Where is her evidence that this is actually the reason that the article didn’t mention the religion of the terrorist?

If it’s obvious that the terrorist turned to terrorism because of his devotion to Islam, what need is there to mention it? If it’s not obvious, then perhaps it’s mere speculation and doesn’t belong in a news report.

Dr. Chesler also puts words into Mr. Rohde’s mouth. Perhaps he is being terribly naive when he speaks of the “good Taliban,” or maybe he just recognizes that in modern political discourse “good Taliban” is simply shorthand for “relatively good Taliban.” All Taliban are brutes, but some are less brutish than others. Isn’t it possible that that’s what he’s saying?

She would do well to keep these points in mind before insinuating that the employees of one of America’s most prestigious newspapers are guilty of a crime (treason) that is punishable by death according to federal statute.

Oct 23, 2009 - 11:33 am 18. IndoEuropean:

There are (rich) idealist and spiritualist people (half psychologist, half interested in esotherical matters), who say Obama to be enlightened (!) man, and “look at those bad other Presidents, just wishing to wage wars and being totally disinterested in environmental matters! They immediately showed their (evil) nature criticizing Obama’s peaceful and social attitude. (…). Himself did not expected to be awarded of the Peace Nobel Prize (”what an humble man”). (…). Maybe he doesn’t really understand the evil of others (Islam), but he is a human being like eveyone else: maybe he just doesn’t know or he simply is a good and ingenous man”. And: “look, the World is really changing, a new era is really coming: for the first time the (usually evil and pride/arrogant) United States have a black President!”.

Now: those allegedly extra-intelligent people (psychologists) and extra-senstitive people (interested in aesotherical matters), don’t even take into consideration that one like Obama was endorsed by one like Khadafi; that he achieved nothing extraordinary as “black man” in USA, since USA was a tolerating and open society far before Obama started running for Presidency; that before him there was a BLACK – WOMAN, Condoleeza Rice, occupying a very hig place in USA Government; that Obama isn’t even “a black man” but his mother was a white woman and his father a man from Asia, and an Islamic man; that Obama “peaceful talks” since he endorses so called “religion of peace”, being advised about it by an ISLAMIST(Moghaed); that Obama LIES about Islamic History, edulcorating it, while belitteling Western History and Civilization (which is instead the greatest Civilization – when it comes to human/women’s Rights – among others, even if no one denies it has to still improve); that Obama had his Campaing funded by United Arab Emirates (like the Campaign of Hillary Clinton, shortly, the Democratic Party has been funded by United Arab Emirates); that Obama’s social attitude is based on others’ money, not his own; that one can expect “humanity” and “ingenuity” by a private citizen like “me and you” but not from the President of United States of America; that without a war against Nazi now European were oppressed by the Nazi regime, and USA saved Europe, through an almost necessary WAR, from Hitler and friends; ….

And when it happens to let these “wise” and “enlightened” people reasoning about the above mentioned (realistic) topics about Obama, they will answer: “oh, but me I went not deeper into political matters. I just noticed Obama attitude and liked it, therefore I endorsed him” (well: congratulation for your superficiality! Weren’t you supposed to be a more intelligent and more sensitive person than the average?), and “oh, but you criticize Obama: what about other Presidents, then?” (I never praised other Presidents, I just state that it is crazy to state Obama to be an enlightened person, rather than a corrupted one – like others, if you like!), and “yes, Islam is like European Middle Ages – but what does Obama has to do with it?” (well: obviously “enlightened” people do not even know about their “most loved President’s” roots and speeches) or “Muhammad said women are inferior to men? I can’t believe an enlightened person like Muhammad said that! You must definitely be wrong!” (no comment. Psycho-aesotherical Masters/Fellows obviously do not have a very insightful knowledge of Islam and its boss – they let themselves be fooled by politically correct messages about Islam or Islamist apologetic messages).

Shortly: today being an idealist seems to be very in, while being a realist seems to be very out – I don’t know why an idealist do not get to understand that a realistic point of view doesn’t forbid to be an idealist, too. They should anyway be aware that being an idealist alone, isn’t different than being a child (having a childish and immature personality) and suffering of so called “magic thinking” – this is not enough: History (already) showed how many people had to suffer for one leader’s idealism only.

As Pat Condell said: not to forget, people voted Obama for changing, not for submitting! (journalists should remember this, too).

Islam ATTACKED the Holy Land, launching the Crusades. Islam was the reason Charlemange started the Holy Roman empire. Islam caused the fall of the eastern Roman empire. It was a moslem who killed the crown prince of Austria-Hungary, launching the first world war. It was a moslem who tried to assasinate Pope John Paul 2nd. Moslems have been fighting the phillipines ever since 1946(when the US granted them independence) India since 1947(the brits?). Every 200 years or so since its birth in the 7th century, Islam starts trouble, usually at first thru mass immigration, then by demanding conformity to Islamic law. Funny how our “friends” the Saudis seem to be spending huge sums to support radical Madrasses but have a 66% unemployment rate in Saudi Arabia. Not to mention all these terrorists are western-educated and radicalized in Western societies(the enemy within?). Our enemies hopefully will destroy each other, since niether communism or Islam tolerates dissidence. John Galt, come on down.

“Of all the countries overwhelmed by the first wave of the 7th -8th century jihad only the Iberian peninsula managed to free itself on it’s own after 800 years of tyranny. The experience was so wretching, they instituted the Inquisition for the next 350 years.”

When the Arabs (Moors as they were called in Spain), were on a roll going up the Iberian peninsula they claimed they had a mummified finger of Mohamed (El loco Mohamed) and were winning all battles. So, the Christians had to invent something or were lost, that was when, mysteriously, a coffin showed up with the remains of James (son of Zebedee), one of the 12 apostles, one of 3 selected by Jesus to witness his transfiguration and the first to be martyred (killed by Aggripa I).

Don’t ask me how it showed up in Spain, ha, ha. But it first helped in the Battle of Clavijo in 840 AD and since then was named St. James the Moor Slayer (Santiago Matamoros) and became the patron of Spain. Thus, Cervantes wrote in Don Quijote:

“St. James the Moor-slayer, one of the most valiant saints and knights the world ever had, who has been given by God to Spain for its patron and protection.”

Since then, the Spanish cry of war has been “Santiago y cierra España” (St. James and close ranks Spain) or simply “Santiago y a ellos” (St. James and at them!)

Look if you visit, in every medieval Spanish cathedral, there are several effigies or statues of Santiago, more often than not on a horse, always slaying a moor with lance or sword (Cathedral of Avila, right at after entrance, left top).

Santiago…where are you? We need you again!

Odd,isn’t it? People do terrible things and openly claim they’re doing it because of their religion, and the msm don’t mention that religion. I don’t think I’ve seen one story on the Goldstone report that didn’t make a point of mentioning he was Jewish.

I get the Sunday Times; I do the puzzles and I like a Sunday paper; our local rag, the Detroit Free Press, is almost hilariously trivial. I got the daily paper for many years, figuring at least they’d tell me what was going on and I could go to smartertimes.com and other sources to find out the truth of what the Times reported. But I no longer feel that they’re even telling me the relevant events, witness how the Van Jones thing was ignored until it was impossible to do so any longer.

And I can see their point–when you cannot defend your culture it’s hard to criticize that culture’s deadly opponents. It is grimly amusing, by the way, to see feminists twisting themselves around to excuse or condone a society that is thoroughly misogynistic.
