Phyllis, can you please tell us what happened to their attackers? Are there any laws against this? Are they enforced? What is the punishment under law? Did any relatives take revenge or defend them in any way?
God help the man who did this to MY daughter. I would carve him into pieces while he was still alive. If I had the paitence I would do the same to him and let him live with it. Does no one rise their defense?
Are there any Imams who publicly condone this? Any that speak out against it?
How widespread is this in Muslim countries? Is there an estimate in numbers? What about Eurabia? Any numbers there? Is there any organization to help them and spread the word at all? Did anyone send these pictures to Hillary Clinton and Obama? Or to Gloria Steinem? Or…?
Maybe Bill O’reilly, Glenn Beck, Greta Van Sustern…would do a story?
Sorry for so many questions…my heart is broken and flowing out of control.

Karla, in response to your point raised in comment #12, take a look at the dualistic nature of those who went berserk in the 1960s, and those who follow them: Anything that smacks of Churchill’s fortitude, de Gaulle’s avenging, and what Mortimer Adler said about perpetual objective reality – that is to be rejected. Which is what you are calling out for.

Therefore, the culturally sterile, which engaged in cultural castration, do not accept anything that they demonize. Which pays a very close resemblance to those who threw acid on their victims, as Phyllis writes about in this blog entry.

Most interesting about this subject (Islamic sadism) is the following: “acid attacks” just show that Islam practices TORTURE. It goes the same everywhere in its Doctrine: from battering, to stoning, to beheading, to hanging (not to mention Hazing in the Military and the “treatement” of prisoners and dissidents in Islamic prisons from Islamic prisoners or jailers toward others, both Non-islamic and Islamic people) – all of those “punishment” are actually TORTURES. Before eventually and maybe the victim dies, they (Islamic people, following Islamic Doctrine) TORTURE him/her. The very Essence of Islam is TORTURE – both psychological and phisical.

Thank you for this article and I wonder when so called “humanitarian Organizations” or “Charities” or “human Rights’ Organizations” will eventually and clearly face and talk about TORTURE in Islam (or simply: ISLAMIC TORTURE – rapes and gang rapes are included in this very subject -).

The fact of the matter is, violence against women is taking place the world over. In Pakistan acid violence against women (and men!) is happening in high numbers.

As is often the case, weapons that are most readily available are often the ones that are used. Stored on people’s shelves ready to be used for the fertilization of the cotton seed, nearly all homes in the Punjab region of Pakistan have highly concentrated acid at arms reach. Such a potent substance at such close proximity is a recipe for disaster in a country where violence against women is well-known to have reached crisis level. In a moment of fury acid becomes the weapon of choice.

Readily available at throw away prices, with no stringent control on the trade or sale of acid, acid violence has become a significant problem in Pakistan, and the Punjab province is the countries hotspot (which is not to say that attacks are limited to the rural areas – there is a pervasive problem of acid violence in the country’s two largest cities, Karachi and Lahore).

[Even a child-girl got acid burned (face): I saw her in a video, unfortunately I can't find the video anymore; I don't remember whether it was in Pakistan or Afghanistan, and eventually an Activist adopted the girl (fact that doesn't diminish the gruesomity and horribility of the attack. Imagine that after such an attack one remains not just "monstered", but above all medium-high handicapped for the rest of his/her life; this is pure sadism! But they don't stop to tell us that criticism toward them "hurts" their feelings .... Which feelings, I wonder?)].

Strangely, I was discussing a topic related to this with my 11 yr. old son. We were discussing why people do such horrible things to other people. I read many of the comments and I don’t believe that just saying that these people who committed these horrible acts against women are of one religious background or another really is the point. Let’s face it, there are MANY in the world (some right in your own countries) that view women as babbles or property. It’s not a matter of changing people’s religious orientation that would make this stop. Many cultures have viewed women only as an ends to a mean. Their worth coming from what they could get through marriages and such. Many cultures have had this view point. Think back a few centuries when the raping of a women was acceptable by most men and it was the woman who was shamed. She would even be shamed within her own house. Many countries have realized that women can contribute within society and have since made them a viable resource. They have realized that although women may not house the brawn, they are capable of problem solving and other resources, thus having a brain. The ideas of the people are what needs to change in order for there to be a difference. It isn’t in the minds and hearts of all men to be evil and to put horrors upon others, but there are enough evil beings in this world that when looking upon those pictures you have to look a bit harder to find the light- women with the strength of spirit to look into a camera and show the world that what happened to them may have only marred the canvass, but the beautiful work lies within…These women have shown a strength of character and I believe it is for this reason that the men who did this, did what they did. They were weak men who couldn’t withstand being opposed- either by a divorce, a broken engagement, or a refusal of marriage and settling a family dispute. Sadly, this happens beyond the veil…in the United States we call it domestic abuse. It happens too frequently! We can not stomp out all evil against women, but as women (and men who know the true value of a women) we should learn to be more supportive to the women who need a voice. My heart goes out to those women in the photographs, as well as my gratitude for showing the world that no matter what, you are beautiful! May we one day find our validation throughout the world and may the uneducated become enlightened!

Its Backwardness is a willed one; not a "human" one. It belongs to its very Ideology, not (just) to the human nature of its perpetrators. Not the same to be said about Western Democracies. An example about this very essential Difference is to be found in "the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam" compared to "the Universal Human Rights' Declaration"].

[*] Islamic Legal System also known as Shari’a, with proper Courts, and proper Punishment – such as hanging, stoning, beheading, hand/foot amputation, lashes, … – when the Law is brocken – which could mean: a child/girl/woman being gang raped and being accused of Adultery since “she had Sex with someone who wasn’t her husband”, and therefore being condamned to be stoned/tortured to death, by a crow of “Allahu akbar” yelling people/citizens, her family members included. The pictures of these poor women are horrible, they are scarred and mutilated physically and emotionally for the rest of their lives. Please don’t try to view what is happening here through narrow eyes. There are many cultural expressions of the Islamic faith, just as there are of the Christian faith. How many Christian traditions forbid women to speak in church? How many Christian traditions require “obedience” of the woman in marriage?

Please don’t take this comment as any kind of weak response to the domestic terror inmposed in PAKISATAN, not Saudi Arabia. It’s terrible and should end along with female genital mutilation in Africa. But, it’s very important to distinguish tribal customs from religious practice.
