Is Caroline Kennedy Qualified? What about Palin?

Gov. Palin had repeatedly run for office in the years preceding her walk on to the national stage. She had stood before voters and weathered their often harsh appraisal. She has been repeatedly vetted. And she had a record of government service–a record of leadership that can be weighed (not that it actually was). And finally Gov. Palin worked for it every step of the way; she was not waiting around to be crowned.

Roff and too many other conservatives are forgetting a great insight from Ralph Waldo Emerson: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall.”

In other words, foolish consistences are the lazy way out.

Let’s avoid foolish consistences. Gov. Palin and Ms. Kennedy are worlds apart. One is a self-starter who made her way through the scrum of local, state and national politics, asking for nothing but a fair chance. The other is the offspring of a wealthy political family who, surprised by a string of deaths and departures, has seen her chance and reluctantly decided to take it.

This should be a moment to remind ourselves what makes Gov. Palin uniquely qualified (in contrast with Ms. Kennedy), not a time to transfer her mantle to an undeserving New Yorker who resembles her only in the most simple biological sense.

“Peter Roff, a conservative writing in U.S. News and World Report…”

Who in heaven’s name is Peter Roff? He merely sounds like another Uncle Tom Republican who wants to adored by the “elites.” In other words, this Roff character is similar to Colin Powell. Sarah Palin looks like a sane and balanced whizz kid—next to Joe Biden. The vice-president elect is a buffoon who rarely knows what he is talking about. I am also convinced that if Biden were a Republican there would be much talk about the need for him to undergo a psychiatric examination. And no, I am not joking!

Dec 29, 2008 - 1:19 pm 2. Phineas:

Roff sounds like he didn’t study the issue closely before writing about it; the contrast between Palin and Kennedy is like night and day. Liberal writers, too, such as Ruth Marcus, would be able to see it if their intellectual honesty hadn’t been smothered by a fawning worship of all things “Camelot.”

Gov. Palin worked for everything she has; she never waited around to be crowned.

Had you expressed nothing else, you had your article written there.. Twitter much..?

Yesterday saw an article teaser saying Caroline was the best for the job.. “Ohhh-kay,” I thought, “I’ll bite..” Turned out that it was purportedly Caroline herself calling herself the best.. Alrighty then. :) )

From a less judgmental angle, will say that there is something to the Life experience thing.. And I’m 100% with Lynn Sweet (Washington bureau chief for the Chicago Sun-Times) that there is no clear path, well, really to anything in politics.. But still.. City council or something along those lines to get one’s feet wet first, maybe..?

Can’t help but wonder out loud if she in the back of her head is figuring on ditching her (potential) constituents for the White House in less than four..

Too.

All I know is, after watching O’Reilly run the audio of the NYT interview with Kennedy last night, he hit the nail right on the head: the woman sounds like a teenager. I couldn’t believe that anyone could give her a pass after the ridiculous responses she gave. It reminded me of the 2007 Miss Teen USA contestant from South Carolina response to why Americans can’t find Iraq on a map . . .” It is my belief that, such as,” and so on. Someone needs to take Caroline to one side and tell her to drop her bid for the Senate. It’s just too embarassing to watch. How the hell did she ever get out of Harvard?

“How the hell did she ever get out of Harvard?”

Harvard University is an intellectual scam operation. Only its hard science graduates are truly among the best in the world. Those who obtain a liberal arts degree from Harvard are often dumber than a rock. Many people fail to realize that affirmative action grading also helps rich white kids. Once the standards are lowed for minorities—the affluent whites soon afterwards jump onto the gravy train. Caroline Kennedy is obviously one of those who have taken advantage of this laughable situation. It is therefore very fair to treat a soft science graduate from our “elite” universities as an idiot until proven otherwise.

Dec 30, 2008 - 6:52 am 9. David B:

To me, one of the most stark differences between the media’s handling of Biden vs. Palin was the response to Biden’s comments about FDR going on TV to soothe the worried American public after the Wall St. crash in ‘29. Just imagine if Palin had said something that ignorant and stupid. We would have been treated to the video replay on the 1/2 hour by every news outlet but Fox. Biden got a total pass. Nevertheless, they piled on about her being able to see Russia from her house – a far less onerous gaffe.

Dec 30, 2008 - 7:11 am 10. Scott:

Caroline does not need to and will not make any decisions. All her votes and direction will come from her family. The less she knows or rather, cares to, is even better for the clan as she This creates the environment that allows a person this unqualified and inept to have a very good chance of taking this important seat.

Dec 30, 2008 - 7:14 am 11. peterike:

@David Thompson. Harvard University is an intellectual scam operation… Those who obtain a liberal arts degree from Harvard are often dumber than a rock.

Too true. An English degree from Harvard once meant a deep knowledge of literary classics, Shakespeare, Milton, Dante — all those Dead White Males. Now, it basically means you were able to parrot back whatever line of oppression fantasies your professor was spouting.

And while the acceptance process is quite rigorous in general and they do get a lot of very smart kids (whom they proceed to ruin with idiot Leftist ideas), the screening process for a Kennedy is basically, “yup, you’re in.”

Dec 30, 2008 - 7:15 am 12. misanthropicus:

I am always amused by liberals’ rapidity in credentializing their favorites and Caroline Kennedy is another illustration of this situation – she is constantly referred to as a “lawyer”, as a “Harvard product” then, in an almost religious tone, “she wrote a book about constitution”.

So here are some legitimate questions for anyone praising Caroline’s achievements:
a) Can anyone describe just one, just a single legal case argued by Caroline Kennedy along her edifying juridical career? I think we have a problem here -

b) Harvard – my! She was accepted at Harvard as a KENNEDY, not as a regular applicant. Her grades might have warranted her addmission there (although I doubt that), but all her student trajectory, up to the unavoidable “cum laude” graduation there occurred under teachers ‘and administration’s active benevolence.

c) she wrote a book about constitution – her effort was probably sympathetically reviewed here and there, but heavens! anyone can – and does – write books about constitution! Is her effort better than Tom Hayden’s “Potatos Problems in 19th Century Ireland?” another trailblazing effort by a towering American intellectual? I guess Caroline’s printed matter can be remorselessly placed on the same shelf with Hayden’s.

I wasn’t/am not a Palin supporter, but it looks to me that she had a honorable career so so far – as far as as Caroline, all that can be said about her is that she was observed during the past thirty years stumbling from cocktail party to cocktail party, hardly a qualifier for the US senate job.

Caroline Kennedy would not be able to get a good job with her speaking ability. She wouldn’t make it through an interview. Uncle Teddy probably finally pulled her chain. He’s probably thinking that she can be easily trained before he kicks the bucket; he will also have to decide who she will trust and convience her of this. This is all about crical placement of the Kennedy family to hold a seat until another Kennedy is prepared. This probably wasn’t supposed to ever happen, but it did, and she’s not prepared.

Look, Governor Patterson is searching for someone who’s a reliable Democrat, and Princess Caroline of Kennedy fits that description to a tee. If he appoints someone else – like someone who has a brain or can at least utter an articulate sentence – the new junior Senator from New York might (a) stand a better chance of winning “reelection” in 2010 and (b) might advance the Democrat/liberal cause. As a Republican, I’m cool with Senator Princess. There is the Article I, Section 9 Constitutional argument, I suppose (No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States), but if Hillary can get past her own Article I, Section 6 problem (No Senator … shall, during the Time for which he [or she?] was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been encreased during such time), the I’m sure the Princess will have no real obstacle to her ascension to the Senate.

Palin can’t even speak in complete sentences. She is so ignorant and inarticulate, George Bush looks halfway intelligent in comparison. Without Bush’s family name and connections, Palin is just a vacuous figurehead for the rabid right wing. Her ignorance of the world outside Alaska is well established. You can easily google a thousand instances of her ignorance. She doesn’t know the most basic history, and certainly nobody can claim that she has the judgement needed to be Commander in Chief. At least not without lying.

@42 and 43– Ann, you nailed it. Steve P, get back to us when you’ve got a few debates under your belt and at *least* been elected a Mayor. Perhaps then you can begin to appreciate the absurdity of how easily you are able to dismiss Palin. We sure have a lot of political armchair jockeys lately (or monday morning quarterbacks, your pick).

Without “the name” ala Kennedy, Palin managed to become a governor. Whether you like it or not, truth is she ran (runs) a state. If she were even half as dumb as she was made out to be during the election, she couldn’t run a Taco Bell much less Alaska. I am so DONE with the Democratic party. The double standards are infuriating.

I love how everyone is so quick to dismiss anything Palin has done. And how fast they push Caroline toward sainthood now. Who’s accomplished what again? It would be funnier if it weren’t so pathetic. And predictable.

@41 James

The media has already jumped on Kennedy, as evidenced by this article. The funny thing is, she is actually reasonably intelligent. Her answers were given in complete sentences, and she was not tripped up by the wily reporters that made Palin fall flat on her face. Kennedy is certainly trading on her name to some degree – it is one of the tools she brings to the job. SNL will parody her when they can get a laugh.

Palin, of course, can generate plenty of laughs without SNL’s assistance.

Sure, he got in as a legacy student, but legacy doesn’t keep you at Annapolis. It doesn’t even get you through Plebe Summer. The real issue here is not Caroline Kennedy. It is the process of bypassing of the democratic process by use of appontment instead of election to fill vacant seats. In Alaska after Gov Murkoski appoined his daughter, they changed the law to allow a temporary appointment followed by election within a few months. If we had such a system in New York (and Illinois), the current controversy could be avoided. Caroline couls simply run for election–like Hillary did.

It’s part of a nuanced “bigger picture.”

What baffles me is that they can imagine their evaluation of intelligence can be important considering when what comes from their side – unnoticed – so very, childishly stupid.

Stupidity is the label the label the very stupid on the left use to paint people they don’t like. These are people who cannot even muster a junior high school science education and they they think they have the right to mention intelligence.

It’s funny, but I seem to remember that our last Democrat President (allegedly a “Rhodes scholar” but easily coming from lower redneck, white trash stock than Sarah Palin ever could)couldn’t define the meaning of “is”, couldn’t pronounce “chameleon”, flirted with a mummy, confused the Gettysburg Address with the Constitution and the Declaraton of Independence, and surveyed the horizon from the deck of a warship without removing the lens covers from the binoculars.

And his VP, supposedly a genius (at lying maybe) mistranslated our national motto, thought that a zebra had spots, couldn’t identify statues of our Founding Fathers, and was even stupid enough to ask out loud who they were.

The only difference is that none of these were deemed worthy to be beaten into the collective skull of the American public in the obligatory soundbite every five minutes. Ahh, the competence of our fair and unbiased newsmedia.

Sorry you lib-zombies, but intelligence-wise Palin still comes out way ahead.

Now, Caroline K’s attempt to get anointed to the Senate seat is nothing but a crass power grab. The woman is banking (literally) on her name & family money. Is it too much to ask that she run for and be elected to city council, or perhaps even school board, before making a claim to a US Senate seat? I might even settle for unelected PTA participation. Heaven forbid she should have to get out and actually meet & talk to voters, and mingle with the “Harry Reid smelly” voters, i.e. those who actually pay Senators’ salaries. I have never understood America’s (although I do understand the fawning media’s) fascination with the Kennedy family. Joe Kennedy was nothing but a crook who made much of his money in prohibition liquor, gambling, prostitution, & connections to organized crime. I have a friend who believes Bill Clinton is Joe Kennedy’s illegitimate son. Think about it: 1940’s Crime boss + Hot Springs, AR (a then-popular crime boss vacation spot) + Clinton’s 1962 meeting a half-brother(?) President as a Boys’ Nation delegate = a not-so-crazy theory. Palin is far more qualified for a Senate seat than Kennedy. Even though Senator Mark Pryor told Bill Maher, “You don’t have to pass an intelligence test to serve in the U.S. Senate,” Kennedy has zero public policy experience. I suppose under Pryor’s acid-test, however, Kennedy is qualified. Caroline should go back to attending Manhattan cocktail parties, or run for office (I might be satisfied even if she lost) before making a claim to a U.S. Senate seat. The media gives Kennedy the kid-gloves treatment & SNL will not treat her the same way they did Palin. Despite the left’s maniacal outbursts, Palin actually would’ve made a great VP, far better than Biden. The best part about that is that Palin would’ve driven the left absolutely bonkers (yes, I know they already are) up the wall for the next 4 years. Funny how the transition team (the-never-before-heard-of “Office of the Pres-Elect”) has kept Biden’s mouth sewed shut since November 4.

Caroline Kennedy–very Eleanor Rooseveltesque in character and intelligence and clearly the anti Palin–will end up meaningless in an America where policy is dictated by the lunatic fringe, and with pathetic neo-con heros on the order of Palin, Limbaugh and Hannity.”

Are you insane? OH, wait, never mind, your crackpot post already said so.

FYI – we’re already in a recession – thank Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton for that one!!!
Russia’s already flexing its muscles and trying to become a world leader again. What the hell do you think that Georgia thing was about? Or selling nuclear intelligence to Iran?
China’s already a world leader.

Obama’s the 21st century version of Neville Chamberlain. And he ain’t even in office yet!

Daivie @ 52 says the election of Sarah Palin will bring upon “an America where policy is dictated by the lunatic fringe”.

Huh?…I thought that was happening this coming January 20th……?

Dec 30, 2008 - 10:29 pm 61. Linda Mae:

The latest Gallop Poll had Hillary as the number 1 admired woman followed by Sarah Palin. Oprah was a distant 3rd. And that’s a fact.

Many negative Palin comments show ignorance of the facts. You need to do your homework. First – stop watching network news and realize that SNL is liberal first and foremost. Then, spend some time watching YouTube Palin interviews. The only one that she completely flopped was with Katie. We don’t know what the original footage was like before it was edited for viewing. We do know that Gibson was ignorant of the term “Bush Doctrine.” It has changed several times and it has NEVER been labeled as such. When you compare the questions asked of Obama to those thrown at Palin, you must admit that the press was biased and in love with Barry.

Dec 31, 2008 - 12:35 am 62. Daivie:

We’re missing the point when we debate the intelligence of Palin vs Kennedy. Firstly, there is no comparison–Kennedy is head and shoulders above the imbecile Palin, and down deep even the right wing wackos know that. The real issue is that to us liberal elites, Palin is the most repulsive, grotesque reactionary to enter the national political scene since Spiro Agnew. Now that oil is dropping like a rock and causing her popularity to drop at the same rate in Alaska (because the state’s finances are in a shambbles and she can not continue to “share the wealth” as she had done ) our hope is she is unelectable to any office. What is more, we liberals hope all red states secede soon.

“What is more, we liberals hope all red states secede soon.”

That would be interesting. Because, you know all the illegal aliens, anyone living in poverty, the uneducated, drug abusers, criminals, etc., will all gravitate to the liberal/blue states – they wouldn’t have to work, since the government would take care of all their needs, and could get away with pretty much anything.

Dec 31, 2008 - 10:43 am 65. narciso:

Weak troll, Daivie, no wonder you’re scared of her, you really think she could singlehandedly reverse Roe V. Wade; I’m not that confident. Could she participate in a dialogue
where abortion might be less neccesary, remember she is a Feminist for Life. Left to her own devices, she’s no Savanarola; she basically let gay marriage happen, by pocket veto in Alaska. Those who hung her in effigy! in West
Hollywood, probably didn’t get the memo. Russia is a basketcase, threatened much more systematically by falling oil prices than Alaska, and the AIDS pandemic, underpopulation,
encroachment of Islam from the Caucasus, the failed effort in Chechnya, and China to the West. China’ a decrepid oligarchy all it’s own. If oil prices continue to be that low, it will be a sign that we are in a depression, because there is no demand. That’s much more serious than anything Sarah might do.
Those little digs she made, really got under your skin, didn’t
they. By the way she vanquishes corrupt politicos, not like Agnew at all. She’s not a threat, so don’t worry your head about it. Unless she is, is probably more of the truth; all the efforts sliming her otherwise were pointless.

Dec 31, 2008 - 11:04 am 66. JayH:

Right on the mark again, Richard. The difference in their qualifications is greater than the distance between Alaska and NY. Sarah Palin has proven herself to be a capable governor and has survived the most outrageous attempts to smear her name that we will likely see in our lifetime. Ms. Kennedy’s desire for a Senate seat is nothing more than opportunism in the extreme, shamelessly attempting to cash in on the family name.

Dec 31, 2008 - 11:04 am 67. William:

Did Caroline Kennedy or the other three rock-heads in the past election:

Ever develop a budget for their state?

Decide whether or not legislation that would affect all their state’s citizens should be signed or not?

Negoiate with oil companies to return part of their profits to their state?

Help arrange for the trans-Canada natural gas pipeline?

Be Commander-in-Chief of their state’s National Guard?

Work to protect their state’s role in international fishing rights?

Do all of the above while raising a family?

Of course the answer is “no”. For qualifications, Palin outshines them all.

Dec 31, 2008 - 11:06 am 68. Speedypete:

What do we elect these people to do for us? I was a New Yorker and we watched Mayor Lindsay and Dinkins ruin New York City. Even my Bohack on my block had barbed wire strung around it. The only smart politician from New York in recent times has been Mayor Guiliani. Why? Because he cleaned it up, controlled spending the hard working peoples money and everyone I know that remained there said life was better and safer. I have watched Caroline Kennedy stumble through two interviews and she would be of no more benefit to New York then “career” politicians Senator Schumer, Senator Clinton, Governors Cuomo, Spitzer or Patterson. When most of their millions for reelection comes from the corrupt Wall Street financiers you find that wisely spending the wage earners money, (reducing taxes would be better yet)and improving the place they live is way down on the list. Senator Caroline would fit in which is sad for my friends and relatives that remain.

Dec 31, 2008 - 12:11 pm 69. Mark:

Ms. Kennedy isn’t running for the VP position – so you really can’t compare her and Palin. BUT – Kennedy doesn’t have ANY experience at all – just a name and lots of $$$. So what about getting people in that is qualified. btw…her interview w/ the press the other day. That girl can’t even string a sentence together w/out going “…you know…you know…you know…” – she is not articulate at all!

Once in a while someone would refer me to his web page to get the clear answers. I don’t think Kerry has the intelligence to come up with a successful plan for Iraq or any other subject. As for calling people you don’t like “dumb” is merely pointing out that you don’t like what they have to say. You are not the most tolerant person in the world.

FLmom,

Thank you for that AK “geology” lesson. As for Alaska geography, it is make up of classic Cascadian Subduction Zone mountain ranges.

So a small Alaskan Island is close to a small Russian island. Guess what? Key West is close to Cuba so I guess Floridians and Alaskans are therefore better leaders for America.

Can we send both Kennedy and Palin to this island and get on to bigger, better, and smarter things? We can find better in both cases.

Jan 2, 2009 - 10:49 pm 90. Kevin:

No doubt the “bigger, better, and smarter” thing you’d like to get onto is underneath Obama’s swimsuit.

Jan 3, 2009 - 10:34 am 91. Kevin:

The liberal Palin-haters only continue to hammer the Alaska/Russia quote because it serves to highlight that whatever scant experience she may have with respect to foreign policy, their beloved Chicago thug has even less.

Palin states that she’s had to deal with air and maritime border issues with Russia.

Obama says he’s qualified for the Presidency because he’s spent most of his (do-nothing)senatorship campaigning for it.

Which sounds more idiotic?

Jan 3, 2009 - 10:40 am 92. Kevin:

Actually I must correct myself. Obama’s foreign policy credentials actually do exceed Palin’s. I speak specifically of Obama’s 2006 time in Kenya where he actively campaigned on behalf of a murderous dictator.

Jan 3, 2009 - 10:50 am 93. wormburner:

@81

I’ve been making this point as well, but it seems there is a segment of Palin fans that is deluded about her to the point that they can see no evil. It is fun to watch, but I don’t see how they can keep up the fantasy for 4 years. Then again, some of them may still believe in Santa as well, so who knows?

Jan 3, 2009 - 11:28 pm 95. John Skookum:

David S.:

Scoff if you like, but remember that Sarah Palin is the most naturally gifted politician since Bill Clinton, or maybe since Reagan. Yes, she’s green, but she is exceptionally good at politics at the retail level, with talent that cannot be taught or practiced. With six years of gubernatorial experience in 2012, she may be seen in a very different light, especially if the economy really goes in the crapper and the Democrats come to be seen as part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

Also, remember that people tend to return to traditional values and old-time religion in times of hardship and turmoil. She is obviously well positioned to benefit.

Finally, keep in mind that in future she will not be boxed in by McCain’s platform and history, and that her own record is much more moderate and libertarian than the media portrayal. She has never banned a book. She has never proposed outlawing the teaching of evolution; in fact, she has not advocated teaching creationism, except to allow discussion of the topic if students request it. She has never actively pushed for punitive anti-gay policies, but rather is one of the few politicians who can claim to have vetoed an anti-gay law on constitutional grounds. She has done nothing to move the abortion debate in Alaska. She has strong opinions on all these topics that are shared by large numbers of Republicans and Democrats, but she really does seem to prefer to lead by example and persuasion.

It will take time to correct people’s impressions, but she has time. Her biggest job is to appeal to women, too many of whom have had high-school flashbacks and see her as the mean head cheerleader. If a mere 6% of the women who voted against her had voted the other way, she’d be getting ready for her inauguration right now. I do not think that this is an impossible task at all, if she spends enough time on the girl-talk TV programs speaking to the women of America as one mom to another.

I think the least of her worries is the educational factor. Book learning is maybe 10% of what you need to be an effective president. Results matter far more. I skipped around from one college to another myself, even dropping out for a while, but eventually got my stuff together and made it into an Ivy League medical school. I can beat Sarah Palin’s SAT score by a mile, I bet, but I am in awe of her political genius, fearlessness, and demonstrated record of effective bipartisan governance. I would sleep soundly if she were Commander in Chief, and plan to work hard and donate heavily to make it so.

Jan 4, 2009 - 4:26 am 96. John Skookum:

Oh, David S, one more thing: if there is one identifiable class of people in this country that legitimately can be compared to children who believe in Santa Claus, it would be those who think that we can borrow, spend, regulate and litigate our way to prosperity under the guidance of the Obamessiah.

Jan 4, 2009 - 4:30 am 97. narciso:

You never made anything close to an argument; just sneers based on edited transcripts and Tina Fey’s unquestioning mouthing of same. Proposing Huckabee, a fellow who makes Bill Clinton’s stewardship of the state, look good, now that’s funny.
Come to think of it, what was the sterling record of reform, that made people think Clinton could even consider running for President, I know it must have been there somewhere.Odd when Howard “Screaming” Dean, was on the warpath; the man who changed churches over a dispute about a bike path, that the media gave him the time of day, until he self destructed; and continued to do so after he was promoted to DNC chair, he made the previous jackass Terry McAuliffe, one of the parties to the Global Crossing fiasco look good. So you looked up Wikipedia
and you found out the point of the
subduction zones, you left out the Bering bridge, that connected it to Asia, through Russia; the long history of Russian cultural influence, Wassila, Sitka, are clearly not typically American place names. Consequently they are a little more aware when the Russian bear is stirring. She could have brought up the part of the Ketchikan EWS in the ballistic missile defense network, but that would have presumed that Katie Couric
would know about this. Nice try David, Davie, related to Cedarford, tell him hello, get an argument.

Jan 4, 2009 - 9:58 am 98. Kevin:

John, everything you’ve said is indeed true. But you have to remember that truth is to liberals what garlic is to vampires. You’d have better luck trying to explain advanced astro-physics to a three-year old.

The facts can be right in front of their face, but they won’t believe what they see because they can only see what they believe.

Jan 4, 2009 - 2:22 pm 99. narciso:

Ah, John, you’re right of course, the lies that have been told about this woman, because
unlike anyone else on either ticket she has ’spoken truth to power’ Against her own party, against the Democrats, on Ayers, on energy, on the fight in the Middle East, against Russian absorbing of the former republics in the Caucasus, on guns, on ethically based life issues, that’s why they have tried to put her down. It’s odd that the ‘Mean Girl’s stereotype is fixed on her, by all rights, that’s really Tina Fey’s department. Did she ever raise her voice in anger, really whine about the treatment her and her family received; the lies still cached on Youtube and Google. I am understandably bitter about the rotten nature of this previous campaign, I find she was probably the only decent and redeeming thing about it

Jan 5, 2009 - 8:44 am 100. Jeannette:

wormburner @77,
Silly me! Yes, I think the governor of Florida knows quite a bit more about Cuba than the rest of us, just as the governor of Alaska knows quite a bit more about both Russia and Canada than the rest of us. (And I have this queer notion that the governor of Maine pays quite a lot of attention to the goings-on in New Brunswick, more than you or I do!)

Jan 5, 2009 - 12:27 pm 101. JackT:

Sarah Palin is not too bright. She clearly demonstrated that. No amount of spin or future education will change the image we have of her. You can’t put the cat back in the bag. She will forever be known as know nothing white trash. Hell, any idiot can govern Alaska. BTW, we should sell it to Canada and forgetaboutit.

Jan 5, 2009 - 9:17 pm 102. narciso:

It’s kind of funny, Jack, considering we have a president elect that considers ‘the Bill of Rights’ negative, who didn’t know about the signal event in his state’s history, “the bomb that dropped on Pearl Harbor” Now we have a CIA director designate with no intelligence experience. We have a nominee for Interior who is opposed to further shale exploration. Now question, do you heat your house with oil or gas, you likely use Alaska’s products. Alaska belonged to Russia, a great deal we got it for, you want to give it back to Putin. The irony is that the Russians have more respect for her, than you ’supposedly sophisticated Americans’ who take their cue from Tina Fey and Katie Couric, they tagged her the Okhonitsa, the Huntress, and that’s not an accident; If she’s so insignificant, don’t worry about her, but she’s not is she.

Jan 6, 2009 - 9:26 am 103. Jon Boudreaux:

What people are forgetting is that Caroline candidate is not contesting an election. Palin is a joke. Vice President? Are you kidding me? Palin is only quality to be a moose hunter. She is a sure shot, you gotta give her that. I hope the REPUGNANT Party select her as their Presidential candidate in 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024, and you get the picture. She is a complete joke.

“A compelling read. Miniter’s Shadow War provides fascinating details on how America is winning the War on Terror—and how challenging that victory will be.”
—James Taranto
Wall Street Journal

“[Miniter] chronicles in grim, eye-popping detail how the Clinton administration mortally bungled our pre-9/11 efforts.”
—Steve Forbes
