When you have a chance, last week's "Uncommon Knowledge" interview with Tom Wolfe is definitely deserving of your time:

" The meek, the white, the gentle,
Me handle touch and spare not
But those that crosse Tom Rynosseros[Rhinoceros]>
Do what the panther dare not.

With a host of furious fancies
    Whereof I am commander,
With a burning spear and a horse of air,
    To the wilderness I wander.
By a knight of ghostes and shadowes
    I summon'd am to tourney
Ten leagues beyond the wild world's end.
    Methinks it is no journey."

(From the Wiki version of Tom O'Bedlam's Song.)
Thus is Tom summoned by the Columbia School of Journalism directly to a top editorial slot at our beloved NYT along with his "host of furious fancies".

Many years ago, I believe in the mid-seventies, the NYT Sunday Magazine featured an article concerning a new chi chi thing to do: Use a pile of dirt (yes soil), sanitized in an oven of course, as a center piece for the dinner table at a dinner party. I don't know if this ever caught on, even in New York. But recognizing and publishing and really advocating the would-be trendy, no matter how idiotic, is part of who they are, what they do.

To "destigmatize" mental iullnesses would have to first assert the prejudice of those who "stigmaatize" them, to take on their mantle! Nope, I decline.

I recognize the ignorances, I fight them, one and all. I don;t teach this one, I don't teach any. Nor do I abet anyone who does.
