We can surmise that our country is in trouble, civil rights have taken a pounding since 9-11. Our economy is in the outhouse. Heavy industry which is neccessary for a strong military and economy had been gutted in this country. Maybe this is done by design to bring our country to its knees.
The solution is to go back to the fundamental institutions of society, namely our families and our religion whatever we've practiced.
(I would mention the Church but not everyone is Christian.) we need to be reconciled to these institutions to pull through these times. It means forgiving and being forgiven. It means a willing attitude of putting others before yourself. It means loving others as yourself. It is returning to human and divine relationships that brings meaning and true hope to our lives. Then and only then will we have the strength, wisdom and courage to face these challenges. Many will disagree but what I speak of has been proved over and over again over six thousand years of recorded history. Love toward God and devotion to the family will be the ticket to a free world.

Abro15,

Yeah joining an organization that begins by symbolically stripping you of your identity by shaving your head, trains you to murder other poor people who have done you no harm, forces you to sleep in a room with dozens of other people, and makes every decision for you from the kind of food you will eat to which clothes you will wear... Yeah, that makes you a real MAN. A man that will do anything that his masters tell him to do regardless of how immoral or self-destructive it is. That's a real man, all right. And the luckiest get pretty lil badges to pin on their clothes, just like the gold stars they got from their homeroom teachers back in kindergarden...

Well very good points after reading them all i got chills up my spine and a bad vision of the future, it seems that all the deployments we have done overseas to protect this country from terrorism and to keep us free might be in jepardy of being all for nothing. i for one will vouch for the 82nd troopers that i know 90% will never stand for this. Further more there are more combat veterans in america right now then at the end of ww2, i know that we all understand what is freedom and what is not. Wew might not be vocal about it but i wouldnt worry too much there are 75 milliond gun owners accrost this country. 14 million of them are big game hunters and like i said we all know what freedom is and isnt.

If he was talking about the National Guard why didn't he call it the National Guard? Was that his ploy to lure kids by calling it something different even before he's sworn in? And if it's young people serving the country why do they need to be as well equipped as the military? Not sure what young people serving the country during natural disasters need with main battle tanks, helicopter gunships, and attack aircraft unless it's to combat our military itself. And why do we need to combat our own military if he's not asking it to do anything we should be proud about? My solace is that I serve in the active military and it will talk more than 4 or 8 years to train this force so hopefully this will all go away. Otherwise, I assure you I'm better in an M1A2 SEP or M2A3 turret than you or your future civil defense force. Maybe this is in preparation for when he tries to collect all the personal guns in the country like Hitler did in Germany. Good luck with that!

Come to think of it. After looking at your dainty, feminine face, I can understand why you might fear the draft. A couple years in the military might turn your pretty little boy friends into men.

Incredibly stupid. Obama was talking about young people serving the country and the National Guard, which was historically larger than the Standing Army until Vietnam. I hope he plans on re-instituting selective service. FYI, stupid, Hitler was a conservative. And there was never a time the National Guard threatened our own country.
