I think they pretty much did ignore the NYT incident. McCain hasn't said much about it. The big red headline appeared on Drudge but was quickly removed in favor of Dolly coverage. I think conservatives have reached the point where we realize that it is pointless to complain.

My wife subscribes, but I don't have to read it. How far do you think the McCain campaign would get by just issuing no comment to any question by a NYT reporter?

The Grey Lady is the Brittany Spears of Journalism. While it is easy to forego the paid performance of either; it's hard to avoid gaping at the sorry spectacle of out of control decline. One feels so much better with time spent in better company.

I think this is really a major blunder by the NYT. Spin it all they want, backpedal and dissemble how they may, they have nonetheless unequivocally taken sides in this election. Further, the story about them spiking McCain's piece has ensured that it now gets more coverage than if they had printed it.

So it's a two-fer. The mask slipped, and they've shot themselves in the foot so far as credibility is concerned. Plus, McCain gets some free press, even to the extent that the whores, liars, and hacks in Sulzberger's doomed empire frantically explain that they had sound journalistic reasons for muzzling one of the candidates.

The only thing that can save the NYT now is if President Obama makes them the Official Newspaper of the Presidency, sort of like an American Pravda.

Thanks, Roger. The first offer of really useful advice since I set off on my kamikaze campaign to eject the double-blank domino now incumbering Maine's 2nd District seat.

It will be facilitated by the NYT's resolute policy of ignoring me.
