Instapundit pointed the way to a New York Post article this morning on Dan Rather’s other “imploding scoop,” which has recently been a topic on this blog. One thing about CBS and Rather – at least they have a consistent standard: Anything that can hurt Bush or his administration is news. Anything that helps them is not news. (It’s a new version of man bites dog.) Have you seen a follow up on CBS that the supposed Israeli spy scandal in the Pentagon is dead in the water? No? I’m shocked. Let me know when you do.
UPDATE: Apropos of Nordlinger’s continuing “Isreal journal,” (linked above under “recently”), part III, posted today, is also interesting. He writes of a meeting with Israeli TV personality Oded Granot:
Finally, a bit about the U.S. election. I paraphrase [Granot]: “If Bush is reelected and succeeds in Iraq, this will have a big effect on the region – including the Palestinian question. If he fails, or the U.S. fails, it will be a disaster. The worst Arab leaders will say, ‘We are the master of this region now, not the U.S.’ Iran will be emboldened, when it least needs to be. A U.S. pullout would be a green light for the extremists.”

1. asher:Repulsive. How long has this kind of anti-Semitism been hiding in plain sight, while we’ve been unable or unwilling to see it?
Sep 15, 2004 - 7:51 am 2. Scott Ferguson:Why doesn’t CBS News fashion itself into a “liberal Fox News”? They would have to give more face time to their political opponents (you see DNC shills FAR more often on Fox than on CBS/NBC/CNN/ABC because of Fox’s commitment to “balance”), among other things. It would give CBS News a ton more credibility.
They won’t do that, though. Their leadership is a gerintocracy, and they just don’t get it.
Sep 15, 2004 - 7:53 am 3. asher:I’ve had a few things to say about the MSM’s arrogance and condescention, but its increasingly blatant anti-Semitism really needs to be exposed.
(”Increasingly”? Where have you been, Asher? -ed.)
Sep 15, 2004 - 7:55 am 4. Knucklehead:Scott,
CBS is also the “Old Folks Channel” IIRC (I don’t watch them other than for sports.
I’m betting that their statement focuses on the Larger Truth aspect of the story – it doesn’t matter if the docs are forged or who forged them ’cause the content is “accurate”.
From there they will MoveOn to the 86 year old Miz Knox telling folks the above and dare anyone else in the MSM or Blogosphere to attack their one remaining witness (they can’t go with Barnes or Burkett ’cause, well, Barnes is a Dem fundraiser with too much dirt under his fingernails and Burkett has been grinding his axe with the TANG and Bush for a good long while).
Sep 15, 2004 - 8:00 am 5. Warthog:I’m beginning to feel like an unwilling victim in some left wing Gotterdammerung in which the major media outlets are primary actors. I no longer believe that the lunacy and hysteria displayed daily on DU, Kos, and Atrios are outliers.
Sep 15, 2004 - 8:02 am 6. asher:Warthog, exactly. Sane liberals like Joe Lieberman are the exception in today’s America – the “moderate fringe”. It really makes you worry how much of what you’ve “learned” from the media has been distorted, inaccurate, or outright fabrication.
Especially in light of Roger’s foregoing post on anti-Semitism.
Sep 15, 2004 - 8:07 am 7. Knucklehead:Warthog and Asher,
Isn’t that pretty much what Zell Miller and Paul Cadell (not to mention Roger and Samuel right here) have been trying to tell people. The Democratic Party has chosen to mainstream its outliers. The Pubbies, on the other hand, have made so legit effort to marginalize their outliers.
Unfortunately the Dems will get worse before they get better, if they ever get better.
Sep 15, 2004 - 8:15 am 8. David Thomson:ìSane liberals like Joe Lieberman are the exception in today’s Americaî
Senator Lieberman is unintentionally providing cover for these anti-Israeli folks. Many Jewish Americans remind me of the proverbial frog who is unaware that they are slowly being boiled alive. The Democrat Party and the liberal establishment are increasingly hostile towards Israel. The evidence of this is overwhelming. It is very fair to believe that at least a third of John Kerryís supporters hold the viewpoint that Israel is an apartheid nation and mistreating the Palestinians.
Sep 15, 2004 - 8:17 am 9. Scott Ferguson:I agree with the sentiment that the “fringe” left might be more mainstream than we would like to believe.
I wonder if this is what the social climate of Weimar Germany felt like (without the hyperinflation, of course).
Sep 15, 2004 - 8:22 am 10. thedragonflies:It is amazing that many in the U.S. and the world think that American Jews and Israel are dictating our anti-terrorism policy for the benefit of the Jews. It is anti-Semitic poison on a level of the ë30s, and it is nauseating.
It is my opinion that the Islamofascists hate Israel, not because they hate Jews, but because Israel is a successful representative of the modern, Western world in the Arab countries. That is, they see Israel as an extension of the U.S. and Europe. And they are doing all they can to destroy America, Israel, Europe, all of the West and extend a newly emerging Islamist empire around the world.
It is shameful that we have anti-Semitic Americans like Pat Buchanan helping that effort by putting the blame for Western Civilizationís war on the Jews.
Sep 15, 2004 - 10:33 am 11. PeterUK:Whilst it is anti-semitism,it is also cowardice, just as there is the belief that electing Kerry will return the World back to the mythical era of peace and International co-operation before 9/11,so there is a belief that throwing Israel to the wolves will solve the problem of the Middle East.
There are no depths to the self delusion and craven betrayal that the Vichy Liberal Left establishment will not sink to to protect themselves and maintain their position.None.
