Who is that blogging in My house over “Air Simon”? Not Charles Johnson himself? But who is that grinning fellow standing over Charles? Could it be frequent blog commenter “Dennis the Peasant” of Columbus, Ohio? What’s he’s doing in Los Angeles? Eating sushi and later attending Team America among other things. (Review to come. Hint: we can say definitively that this man is no longer a “South Park Republican.”)
UPDATE: Oops. Evidently I misidentified the gentleman standing behind Charles.

Dennis, that green glow you see in the east originates in Utah.
The Team may be going to the Mojave (near Randsburg, north of Edwards AFB) the end of the month, Roger. Do you want directions to our cannon party or would you rather we stop by and annoy your neighbors?
My cannon isn’t an assault weapon. At least not since I ground off the bayonet lug.
Oct 16, 2004 - 11:23 pm 2. flenser:AHH, that shirt!!!
Ok, I have to go to LGF and make fun of Charles.
So, DtP has not been posting here lately. Now we see he is in secret meetings with Charles and Roger. I smell some secret plot in the works, perhaps an October surprise involving forged documents.

Not true any more. (Though I suspect it’s not for him.)
Oct 17, 2004 - 1:09 am 5. werner:Roger Ebert os offended by Team America and gives it one star. It must be great. These days, you have to make an effort not to get 3-4 stars from him.
Looking up that review, I see he gives gives 3 stars to “Hijacking Catastrophe: 9/11, Fear & Selling the American Empire” in a review that tries hard to sell the argument of the film while pretending to merely report it, Goering comparison (”eerie in its relevance”)and all. Painful.

Charles Johnson may be a hippie freak, but at least he is OUR hippie freak!
Oct 17, 2004 - 4:41 am 8. Cap'n Billy:This sentence from Sullivan’s blog (via Roger’s link) leaped out at me:
“Kerry just pulled one card from out of the bottom of the heap.”
Andrew apparently doesn’t know the implications of dealing from the bottom of the deck.
I have long since abandoned his blog since he decided that the “basic human right” of gay marriage is more important than anything else. His assertion the “President Kerry” would be forced by events to be as aggressive as President Bush in the WOT would be laughable if the stakes were not so high.
Oct 17, 2004 - 5:18 am 9. Dulce:Enjoy Team America. This straight-arrow Jewish conservative security mom thought it was hilarious. The incredibly vulgar summary message at the end–a riotous metaphor of body parts–says it all. LOL!
Oct 17, 2004 - 6:19 am 10. Terrye:Dennis actually looks like a guy from the midwest.hubba hubba.
Now as for Charles, that shirt is definitely not flyover country fashion.
Glenn [at instapundit] says they should put Fahrenhype 9/11 on network TV. Now if we could get that on TV and Team America in the theatres and Stolen Honor on TV it might come close to matching the propaganda from the Cannes crowd.
Oct 17, 2004 - 6:42 am 11. David Thomson:ìHis assertion the “President Kerry” would be forced by events to be as aggressive as President Bush in the WOT would be laughable if the stakes were not so high.î
Andrew Sullivan is making a fool of himself. Occasionally a full grown adult may become more ìaggressiveî due to extraordinary circumstances—but this is the exception to the general rule. The vast majority of the time, a man of sixty years old like Kerry will not dramatically abandon his long established behaviors. He has been an appeaser throughout his entire adult life. My guess is that there is not even a ten percent possibility Kerry will do anything like Sullivan suggests.
President Bush has already proven himself. He is not a pig in a poke. Thereís no sense in taking such an extreme chance on the Massachusetts senator. This is particularly true when you are betting on the lives of your loved ones.

I hope you decide to post on the NYT self parody.
We can play “name that meme” all day. You have to love their list of Kerry accomplishments.
Oct 17, 2004 - 7:08 am 15. Dash:Team America was gr… that shirt..turd brown and baby blue flowers?… wow. Where was I?
Oh yeah, Team America was FANTASTIC! Finally a creative, edgy, popular and funny as hell commentary on how idiotic the lefty activists are. It made my year!
I understand the conservatives didn’t get off scott free, nor should they, but the basic point of the film is damn close to exactly how I feel. Yeah America can come off as a little too gung ho and it’s important to have people keeping things honest and reigning us in, but overall we are a force for good.
Go see this movie!
Oct 17, 2004 - 7:10 am 16. Barry Dauphin:I think we’re seeing the real Team America right here!
Now, gentlemen, could you possibly launch an attack on the Guardian? They have set their sites on DtP’s beloved Ohio. And with these folks, we know it’s not only their coats that are red.
Oct 17, 2004 - 7:28 am 17. Peg C.:Love seeing DtP and especially with Charles. Any pics of the 3 of you, Roger??
Seeing TA this afternoon and can’t wait. (We’d have seen it yesterday, but touring the fall colors at peak took priority. And BTW, we saw more and bigger GWB signs than Kedwards signs here in the Hudson Valley. NY isn’t all commies.)

And Team America has already performed a public service: I always enjoy playing dueling picket signs with Kedwards backers, their Kerry signs against my Kerry sign , but there’s one mushroom across the street who waves this Simpsons-joke sign: “Worst. President. Ever.” I know, it’s so 20th century… but now I can counterprogram him with
“America FUCK YEAH!”

Oct 17, 2004 - 8:40 am 22. Rick Ballard:Jamie,
The underlying premise of what Steven wrote is that the polling companies deliver the product that their client wants. I agree with the premise wholeheartedly. The non-public polls purchased by the politicians and their parties have to reflect reality because they are the basis upon which hundred of millions of dollars will be spent. The “public” polls purchased by the media serve either to sell their product or to influence their readership. This election cycle the “influence” seems especially loaded to diminish Rep turnout. It ain’t gonna work but you have to look at the Dem “product” only casually to understand that polling showing enthusiastic support for Kerry would be met with complete derision.
You don’t need a degree in statistics to understand that a manipulation of a sample of 1000 by 40 in either direction will produce the swings shown by the public polls. Aside from Gallup and Pew, polling companies have a standard of ethics little different than their customers. Having reduced “journalistic ethics” to an oxymoron, the MSM have no qualms in suborning their vendors to produce results to support their storyline.
We may see a shift to “reality” based results fairly quickly – perhaps as early as next weekend. If the polling companies take this too far they will have nothing to sell next time around. They can’t all show a 10 point swing in the last week without making utter fools of themselves.

Following on the thread pertaining to funny business wth poll numbers, there is strong evidence that somebody is working to influence the Tradesports contacts on the election results.

Oct 17, 2004 - 11:19 am 28. Charlie (Colorado):Steven denBeste does an interesting signal analysis of the RCP poll averages, and comes to a similar conclusino: that the polls have been purposefully gamed to benefit Kerry.
I’m not sure I quite buy it, but it is interesting that the outliers in earlier polls (like Zogby) are moving to the mean, or even to the “Bush is winning” side. Recall that Zogby is the poll that showed Gray Davis winning the recall and Arnold behind the Democrat until just a few days before the election.
Personally, I think we might be seeing a small Democrat bias that can be explained by the notion that there has been a small overall motion toward higher Republican voting than self-identification — which would mean that the polls would undersample Republican voters — along with a much more significant bias toward keeping it a horserace, and keeping ratings high — followed by a desire to get the numbers close to really right near the election because you look like an idiot of you’re not real close.

DtP–
I can see the resemblance to Ethel Merman, but where’s the Buddy Hackett part?
Oct 17, 2004 - 11:48 am 30. Rick Ballard:Charlie (C),
The demographic shift in party identification that occured post 9/11 was identified very thoroughly by Pew last year. It was not, however, generally adopted by most pollsters (they continue to use the ‘00 model). Pew identified a 5% shift to Republicans of which at least 50% can be considered to be permanent. Thus, an inherent bias of at least 2.5% is present before the polls are conducted. I know that Pew is using their own model and I believe that Gallup is using a model very similiar to Pew’s. The question becomes “Why are other polling companies not using best available data in generating their models?” That’s where the clients predelictions come into play and that’s where the polling companies are able to retain a shred of honesty. If you give your client the choice of data sets used to generate samples you can’t really expect them to pick one that will go against their storyline.

those signs—-good Lord!
it’s true, though.
i remember back in the beginning some Dem (Barney Frank?) saying something like, ‘no one can call John Kerry a liberal. he’s killed people.’ It was just about that crude.
i was appalled when i read that.
the definition of conservatism is: people who’ve killed people?

Doing serious red-express time in search of filthy lucre (I’m a Republican, why else?).
First things first. The picture above should not be construed as the beginnings of a nascent neo-con “Axis of Evil” (Roger being the party of the third part, of course). It just so happened I had business to attend to in L.A. and Roger was kind enough to invite me for dinner and a movie, which I accepted, and then it just so happened that Charles stopped by to see Roger. I can sum everything up this way:
1) I enjoyed howling though Team American in a theatre filled with L.A. liberal weenies who really were, at times, laughing in spite of themselves,
2) I enjoyed some great sushi, and
3) When I get my picture taken with Charles Johnson by Roger L. Simon…well, I’m about as far out of my league as I’ll ever get. I had to get back to Columbus quickly just to make sure I didn’t bring down the company to my level.
Second things second. First, I want Goof to know that I did indeed bring that rain. Had I let out a really maniacal laugh Saturday night, you would have had lightning too. But Team America left me in too good a mood. You cannot summon up lightning with “Dirka dirka mohammed jihad dirka”. Second, Richard McEnroe…next time I’m there, you’re on. Third, Fresh Air…I may had Ethel Merman’s looks (and I do), but what the picture fails to properly convey is my Buddy Hackett-esque physique. And for that, I will be eternally grateful to Roger!
Finally…what Republican wouldn’t be completely flattered to be told they look like a young Dick Cheney and get photoshopped into the sumo wrestler version of Karl Rove? And by the way, I’ve got a size 18 neck.

Sorry about the 20 neck; I forgot to compensate for the width of that grin. And congratulations for your Borsalino le Merite. Twenty confirmed troll terminations is a great accomplishment!
