Webalizer vs. Sitemeter

Webalizer (on my server) reported 44,000 visitors to this site yesterday and the recently installed Sitemeter (below) reported 51,000. Either way this site wins – a new record.

Congratulations, Roger–say: did you ever get the profile of our “community” finished?

Yes – and they are not surprising. Briefly, you are quite well off, relatively conservative and HIGHLY educated. Your favorite hobby (after politics) is photography. You are also quite interested in food. More details after the election, when there is more time. I will also explain then why we put up the survey and where some business partners and I are going with it.

I wonder why the discrepancy? For my part, I’ve always found Sitemeter’s stats to be on the conservative side. They count only unique daily visitors and seem to do a credible job of filtering out robots and search engines and the like.

Interesting question, CN. Charles Johnson, who installed Sitemeter only a day or so before I did, told me he had the same results – Sitemeter higher. I hope they’re right, obviously, but who knows?

Roger,

I’ll say it if you won’t: those of us who purport to be capitalists should put some money where our mouths are and leave a tip in Roger’s PayPal jar. I did so a couple of months ago and it relieved me of the psychological burden of feeling like a freeloader, which is of no small value in the Blogosphere.
