Arafat Deathwatch?

Some are saying his condition is poor but stable. Haaretz reports:

Israel assured the Palestinian Authority on Thursday that PA Chairman Yasser Arafat will be permitted to return to the West Bank if he needs to go abroad for medical treatment.

In my opinion, ‘e’s no longer among the living…

Or, as Chevy Chase used to say on SNL of Generalissimo Franco, he’s still dead.

No, no, no. Generalissimo Francisco Franco still has a cold.

CNN.com is reporting that Arafat is refusing his doctors’ recommendation that he go to Paris for treatment.

Um, no.

Arafat is still amongst the living.

The likelihood is that no matter what else ails him, Arafat has Parkinson’s disease, and with that goes a myriad of potential complications to any illness.

Fever alone in Parkinson’s patients can produce disabling encephalopathy, hallucinations, severe bradykinesia (slowing of movements) including but not limited to inability to swallow safely and effectively often leading to aspiration and pneumonia. And that’s just from a fever!

In reading the reports from JPost and HaAretz, the various Pali reports were that he was “sleeping”, “in a coma”, “awake but hallucinating”, etc.

Arafat was reported originally to have had a viral syndrome with vomiting, diarrhea, etc. Later it was reported that his interval worsening was secondary to a gall stone, and if true, Arafat probably has bad cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder), which in the preantibiotic world was often lethal.

Either way his inability to keep his Parkinson’s meds down is also likely contributing to his reported worsening.

Nope, not dead yet.

Sounds like he’s got a bunch of bad goo going on. Forgive me, but I hope he suffers more than a little bit.

While I can certainly empathise with those who wish YA a lingering, painful death, I’d prefer expediance in this case. Faster, please!

Prediction: when The Human Toad finally croaks, the streets of Gaza will erupt in celebration, then erupt in bloodshed as the Palestinian body politic gets down to some truly grisly self-consumption and parasitic decay.

His symptoms could also be the result of AIDS.

The “blood cancer” bit is a hint.
