Before going to sleep. What’s surprising to me… well, no it’s not… what’s predictable to me is that the mainstream media will not call the election definitively for Bush, thus further enabling their mediocre candidate. They are destroying themselves. But it is not time to gloat. It is time to address the on-going struggle. Have a good night. See you tomorrow.
One final final: Hugh says that by not conceding Kerry is setting a poor example for the fledgling democracies of Afghanistan and Iraq. He’s right.

1. someone:They are cooperating with the Dems in a disgusting campaign of legitimized fraud.
Nov 3, 2004 - 1:06 am 2. WichitaBoy:The problem is that in the post-modern world nothing matters but power. There is no integrity; there is no morality. Kerry and the merry band of Democrats couldn’t care less what example they set. Third world democracies be damned. Tortured and murdered victims of the world be damned. The MSM couldn’t care less what precedent they set. They just want to win.
Nov 3, 2004 - 1:12 am 3. Connecticut Yankee:Roger, sleep well. And thank you once again for hosting this blog– it’s been an oasis of sanity for me during a campaign season that set new records for sheer bizarrerie as well as bad manners. Blessings on you and the others who post here, Goof included.
Nov 3, 2004 - 1:23 am 4. someone:The postmodern world ended a little over three years ago.
But the institutions of that world linger on.
(I need sleep.)
Nov 3, 2004 - 1:25 am 5. Connecticut Yankee:MSM congratulating itself on its sterling performance tonight: “TV Election Coverage Marked by Flair, Care.”
When the 2004 results are completely known, the networks will look at whether this year’s exit polls overestimated Democratic vote counts, said Bill Wheatley, NBC News vice president. But he noted that the networks relied on real vote counts to make their calls in contested states.
“I think it would be premature to say that we had any substantial problems,” Wheatley said.

Nov 3, 2004 - 1:37 am 6. Jackson:Well, I don’t give a rats arse if Kerry’s to childish to admit defeat, I’m going to take this opportunity to congratulate you guys in a thread that‚Äôs not 800 posts long!!
Well done America, not only have you re-elected by far the best man, but more importantly you’ve also showed the finger to the terrorists who would have seen Kerry’s election as a victory. For Americans to show this much courage and determination is surely going to be demoralizing to those animals who thought that western society could be terrorized into submission.
Also congrats to bloggers like Roger, this result clearly shows the influence the blogosphere is wielding. (does anyone really believe that George W. would have been re-elected if the MSM was our only source of information?)
Grateful Aussie.
Nov 3, 2004 - 2:09 am 7. skeeziks:Fox News has already called Nevada for Bush, but the electoral count still sits at 269; the number it was prior to them calling Nevada. Lemmings, they are all lemmings.
Nov 3, 2004 - 2:33 am 8. klrfz1:Bush wins by over three million votes! Daschle defeated! Will Republicans riot, burn cars, smash store windows? No. Will Republicans gloat? Yes, at least some of us will. Will Republicans hold out their hand and congratulate Democrats on a valiant effort, forgive and forget, water under the bridge old chap? Hell no! Democrats lied over and over and over. Democrats called our President Chimpy and Bu$Hitler. Democrats committed voter fraud and voter intimidation. The Democratic MSM refused to tell the truth about Iraq, the economy or John Kerry’s record. Over the last several years Democrats have set a new low for politics as usual. Democrats can no longer be allowed to try to win at all costs. Prosecute their crimes. Publicize their lies. Boycott their MSM. Boo their Hollywood stars.
Why? I used to be a Democrat. I would like the Democratic Party to be respectable again. I would like to be able to choose to vote for a Democrat without also having to stand with the hate America crowd. Just losing this election will not be enough for the Democrats to change direction. Democrats have lost elections before. We have to rub their noses in the mess they’ve made until the stench fills their weasely snouts. We have to keep catching them every time they try to crap on our beautiful country. America needs a better Democratic Party. America deserves an honest, ethical Democratic Party. It’s time for a change!
Nov 3, 2004 - 2:51 am 9. LemonDrop:The crazier the Demoncraps act (can I say that?) the further I remove myself from all known demons…errr, democrats.
I guess they are going to say this time Bush wasn’t a valid President for some other reason. Sore loser! They lost in the house, the senate and the presidency…what does that tell the media and the WORLD?
Now France, Russia and the UN can go hide under a rock. We didn’t vote in THEIR choice. Pfffft.
Nov 3, 2004 - 3:37 am 10. Terrye:If the Democrats fight this with a popluar vote margin like we see they are spitting in the eye of the American electorate. Bush actualy added votes in blue states like NJ and Wisconsin. Even NY saw less of a gap in popular vote.
Who was it that said, the American people have spoken, the bastards. The Democrats better remember that. For YEARS we have been listening to the whole president select thing, it is time John Kerry acted like a man.
If he can not manage it maybe Teresa can do it for him.
Nov 3, 2004 - 5:54 am 11. notthisgirl:The Democrats and the MSM (especially) are acting like spoiled children.
I was listening to Don Imus’ radio show this morning at about 6 am Eastern. He ran into Tom Brokaw on the street with coffee in hand at about 5 am-ish. Brokaw’s comment? “What a nightmare“.
That says it all.
***************************
By the way – I can’t remember which blog I saw this on; but, several weeks ago I saw a story about Daschle buying a home in DC which effectively made him a resident of that state – not SD. Now, when do you think that story appeared on TV ?!?!?!?!?!?!? Well of course it was last night after it was nearly certain that Daschle was going to lose.
They are so freaking transparent it ain’t funny.
Nov 3, 2004 - 6:24 am 12. notthisgirl:Well, Iraq, you can now exhale.
Nov 3, 2004 - 6:25 am 13. The Old Coot:Mr. Kerry would not sign a DD-180 to open his military records and now he will not concede. Mrs. Cheney was correct, “he is not a good man”.
Nov 3, 2004 - 6:44 am 14. Beth:If today had been like four years ago, I would be sitting with my fellow vacationing friends (in Canada, no less!), and we would all be gnashing our teeth, screaming in outrage, and threatening to stay in the lovely liberal embrace of our neighbors to the north.
But today isn’t like four years ago, at least, not for me. Oh, it took awhile… But a little over three years ago, something happened — a BIG something.
One of the calls I received in the afternoon of that terrible day was from one of my traveling companions. She was laughing, gloating actually, and said to me, “Poor Bushie… What’s he gonna do now?” Apparently, even in the midst of the horrors of that day, she’d managed to glean some measure of scadenfreude when looking at President Bush, sitting in that elementary school classroom, facing those children as the moment the crisis became known.
I was a coward, I admit it. I should have told her that, no, when I saw the same scene, the only words that came to my mind were, “Congratulations, Mr. Bush. You’ve just become the President of the United States,” and that all my support had shifted to him and my country in that moment. I should have told her that her laughter was obscene. I should of said a lot of things, but all I managed to say was, “Well, I don’t know about that…” (Damn my cowardice.)
But it was then that I knew my fellow Democrats and Progressives had begun to abandon everything I believed that liberalism really means. And I knew that I had not been the one who had left them, but they had left me.
So here I sit, four years later, happy, relieved, and with a tear in my eye that this election has gone the exact opposite of what I had hoped for four years ago. Though my awakening in these last few years has cost me the friendship of my almost-sister — a friend of over 25 years — who will no longer speak to me, as I am just too “hateful” now. Though it has turned too many conversations into minefields. Though it has caused me to lose respect for people I have admired. At least my eyes are open now… And I refuse to be a coward anymore.
Thanks for the great coverage, Roger! Your honestly about your own changes of heart have been a great comfort. Thank you for sharing your time and your thoughts with us.
Nov 3, 2004 - 6:54 am 15. notthisgirl:Beth, I just want to say thanks.
I have a feeling that there are a wholllle lot of Beth’s out there.
Could you just imagine if things were going better in Iraq how HUGE Bush’s victory would have been? I know only too many Republicans who were unable to vote for Bush strictly because of Iraq.
Thanks again to Beth and every last one of you.
Nov 3, 2004 - 7:35 am 16. Fabian Hammer:I agree with Grateful Aussie.
BTW, what’s to be made of the similarities between the US Bush victory and the Australian election won by John W Howard … including mainstream media hysteria, opposition soft on WOT, prepolls not picking up on the continuing working class shift to “conservative” parties (jobs! health! education! security!) and the overall increased primary vote plus control of House and Senate in both countries?
Nov 3, 2004 - 7:46 am 17. Otter:One final final: Hugh says that by not conceding Kerry is setting a poor example for the fledgling democracies of Afghanistan and Iraq.
Geez, Roger, I’ve been saying that in the comments to every Afghanistan-related post here since their election!
Seriously, though, it is an astonishing thing how we’re now hoping that John Kerry and Terry McAuliffe can live up to the standard of Younas Qanooni and the other opposition candidates in Afghanistan.
Nov 3, 2004 - 8:01 am 18. Charlie (Colorado):Will Republicans gloat?
We shouldn’t gloat — we still have to live with these people.
But I’ll admit, I listened to Air America in the car today on the way to work, and I gloated a little bit.
