So I check out my library and sure enough, I have THREE of Hansen's books: Obedience, Gravedigger and The Little Dog Laughed. I keep my books if I think they are good enough to read again. They have to be really good, too, because I have moved a number of times.

Anyway, now I will read these books all over again!

What it never came out and said it, I think Philo Vance was definitely gay. Very "metrosexual" anyway.

I read all of Joseph Hansen's mysteries years ago. I always thought he was a particularly original and unique voice, and that he was doing a much needed service for the gay community. His death is a loss. May he rest in peace.

I read two of his books way back when and they were entertaining.

As I recall, he got good reviews but back then it was edgy to read about

a gay detective solving crimes. He probably drew readers because it was edgy.

As I recall, he was careful descriptively about his hero's sexual preference. It is unfortunate that he has passed aswy.
