Given the content of most of Chase’s movies I find it odd that he’d be accusing somebody else of being stupid. I mean, without stupid people he wouldn’t have had a career.

The People for the American Way prefer to be perceived as moderates (we can argue whether they truly are another time). The last thing this organization needed was for Chevy Chase to act like a fool. He literally turned the evening into a public relations disaster. Iím sure that the organizers now wish the event were never held.

Chevy Chase does, alas, indeed make Karl Rove’s life a lot easier. The Republicans are already the majority party. Only the very far left wing of the Democratic Party will appreciate this sort of inappropriate behavior. Mainstream Americans will just continue moving toward the GOP. Will the last person to leave the Democratic Partyís headquarters, please turn off the lights.

You have to stop and think for a moment how much money was likely raised by this event. Poor people generally cannot afford to attend. Only the very affluent show up. My guess is that the average family income was somewhere is the $250,000 annual range. Iím sure some serious check were written. But now it will cost the organization far more money and effort to undo last nightís damage.

If Chevy Chase, Al Franken, Whoopi Goldberg, et al, were in their twenties, their near-pervasive use of profanity would be understandable, although still disgusting. Chevy Chase, however, is sixty-one years old. Al Franken is fifty-three. Whoopi Goldberg is fifty-four. It’s not an original observation on my part that they, like so many on the left, have never grown up, but I think that it bears repeating.

I don’t think it attracts young supporters,when I was young,we didn’t want politicians who hung out in the same coffee bars as me,who spoke the same way,with all our youthful rebelliousness we wanted someone with gravitas.
