Happy Birthday, Adlai

No Pasaran has more.

I would also like to note the passing of that great American actor Ossie Davis. LaShawn Barber has many interesting links.

Oddly enough (or not), my only active memory of the 1960 Democratic convention is Eleanor Roosevelt nominating Adlai for president. We liked Ike in my house (surprise!), but I’ve always been drawn to the bookish, brainy types and Mrs. Roosevelt made him sound so appealing that I found I was disappointed when the Dems declined to give him a third bite.

RIP Mr. Davis, from a long-time fan.

Another notable loss is Max Schmeling (maybe you noted it already and I missed it?) – one of the few who seem to have emerged from the Nazi era with their integrity basically intact. http://www.solomonia.com/blog/archives/005385.shtml

And don’t forget John Vernon who played Dean Wormer on Animal House
