Just try to have a debate about social security, you get all kinds of ranting and raving.--

Terrye, you should have heard the guy on Bob Brinker yesterday. I'm surprised he didn't hang up on him.

Told him his partisaship is blinding him.

I've noticed 1 thing in the SS debate, they're equating SSI w/SS.

Can't let them do that, 2 different things.

We getting into discussions as to what "general welfare" really means.

Maybe we shouldn't be paying for everything.

A little more digging shows he is a member of the University of Birmingham Labour Club - apparently with ties to Socialist International who has an interesting U.N. Reform Position Paper that has a neo-con stopping agenda -

A new global order is at stake. A neo-conservative agenda is being deployed to make it a unilateral and unipolar order.

I guess it's time to pull the head out of the Ostrich Hole.....

The Democratic party is not much better.

Just try to have a debate about social security, you get all kinds of ranting and raving.

It is all about making rich Republicans richer while they pay back their fat cat friends on wall street. Let's go hang out at Saint FDR's memorial and sing We Shall Overcome or whatever.

Not even a hint of rational discussion of the subject. Of course that means other people will end up making the difficult decisions because the left is too busy holding its breath until its collective face turns blue.

I love this -

Liam Byrne, Labour MP for Birmingham Hodge Hill and one of Geras's former students, said:"As a skilled Marxist, Norman Geras is clearly pursuing a very clever entryist strategy to the American neocon movement. I await with bated breath the overthrow of every last one of them."

The overthrow of the "neocons" - what does that mean? Selectively removing neocon thought? By doing what?

I don't find much interesting in a search on MP Byrne other than the typical Labour associations - Fabian Society, etc. ( From their Web site - The Fabian Society is the UK's only membership based left of centre think tank. Providing an arena for open-minded debate, the Society's programme aims to explore the political ideas and the policy reforms which will define progressive politics in the future. )

Sounds like a meme-spewer in training....

Roger:

The two stories are a perfect example of the moral bankruptcy of the left. There is only one opinion that is allowed, anti-Bush, anti America. Even when an avowed marxist steps out of the box and goes against the flow he suddenly becomes a supporter of quislings and sychophants. They do not attack his ideas and positions, they simply say he supported the war, so automatically he is shunned from the group. Stalin,Mao, and Hitler would be impressed by the party discipline.

Nice to see they're not bitter about the election.

It does seem that the quality of Dutch irony has declined somewhat since Erasmus's day....
