LGF Waylaid by Hard Drive Failure

It’s true. Little Green Footballs has (have?) temporarily ceased bouncing, because our web server’s hard drive bit the dust. Pushin’ up daisies. Took a permanent vacation in the boneyard.

Roger has graciously allowed me to post at his site, to let the lizardoid horde know that — barring further mishaps or Acts of God — LGF will be back up as soon as possible. Hosting Matters assures me that no data has been lost; we have a “nearly live” backup system that saves all changes to the site as they occur.

I’ll post any updates here as necessary.

UPDATE: For those who don’t know, Charles is up and running.

Thanks for the update Charles, I was wondering!

Roger L, thank you.

Charles, you still should have decked this “One particularly grizzled fellow who looked like a veteran of Kesey’s bus queried Charles and me about our “politics.” When I allowed as how we were the kinds of fellows who favored gay marriage and the War on Terror, he looked incredulous. How was such a thing possible? His reified brain looked as if it were about to short circuit. Then he smiled in relief. “Ah…” he said… “You mean the Global War for Oil!” Now it was Charles’ turn to look stunned. (In fact, more than stunned. I had never seen such a look of contempt on his face.) Were there still people who believed in this nonsense on the very day jihadist had blown up people all over London? Yes, there were. And a lot of them are in the Silicon Valley…”….:).

Agree with the advice given by our ‘lawyer brigade’, get yourselves some smart, top shelf attorneys to deal with the ‘Venture Money’ people.

VC’s didn’t get their Capital, by being dumb clucks.

Charles รณ That’s what you get for hiring an IT guy named Mustafa…

Jul 8, 2005 - 9:54 pm 4. NY Nana:

Charles,

Please, please design a LGF patch that can cure withdrawal symptoms when LGF is down, on rare occasions! If you could read the emails going back and forth, you would ROFL…

We hope to see LGF up and running in the AM on the Right Coast, or before.

Thank you, Roger L.!

Well Dang!

I wuz hoping to do some posting about the great pre Texas BBQ to all the fine lizzards who were not able to make it.

Instead I find Charles is delinquent!

Oh misery…the withdrawals will be most fearsome!

Anyhoo, Roger thanx so much for the chance to post a message to the lizzards who are so very lost without their home.

Charles…keep poking them over at Hosting Matters with a sharp pointy stick to get your blog back online!

Jul 8, 2005 - 10:12 pm 6. Gary in Duke City:

I blame Karl Rove.

Jul 8, 2005 - 10:46 pm 7. Ron Wrght:

Gee that’s strange. Do you think this could be an act of CyberWarfare by AQ et al? Your not very popular in those circles. ;-)

Re: Gary in Duke City at July 8, 2005 10:46 PM

You’re right. The problem is that Karl Rove let the cat out of the bag: Charles Johnson is secretly associated with the LittleGreenFootballs blog. There ought to be some kind of law against revealing common knowledge. No?

An American novelist palling around with and sharing political allegiances with an American musician?

On its face, it sounds pretty pinko…

Jul 8, 2005 - 11:42 pm 10. Spiny Norman:

Ah Charles, here you are!

It was so disappointing to come home from a long day on the road and find no LGF… so I browse some of my other favorites and here’s the answer.

Thanks Roger. Hopefully we won’t spill our drinks on the furniture…

Jul 8, 2005 - 11:54 pm 11. Spiny Norman:

Gary in Duke City,

You blame Karl Rove, eh? LOL! Apparently, so does Aljazeera:

http://www.aljazeera.com/cgi-bin/review/article_full_story.asp?service_ID=9212

Dear United Kingdom,

The fact that Karl Rove, “Bush’s Brain,” is just now caught in the treasonous betrayal of a CIA agent to further his master’s agenda, that for the first time we have the Bush Gang in a corner, suggests that this horrific attack on your innocent citizens is a diversionary tactic by the Military/Industrial Complex, the cabal that has backed Bush’s rise to power. It is shameful that we let them come to power and that the majority of our citizens are still hypnotized by their lies.

Hi Charles.

Thank you Mr. Simon. :)

Jul 9, 2005 - 12:12 am 13. J.D.:

Good luck, Charles.

Check you later.

Jul 9, 2005 - 12:19 am 14. pjb:

Thanks Cahrles for letting us know, and thank-you Roger for letting Charles inform us of what is happening. I was very worried for awhile there.

Hi Lizardoids, hope all is well?

Ah, here we all are … At least it didn’t go down while I was mid-rant.

Too bad you’ve already left the Bay Area Charles … you could have come to my going away party (actually, I’m planning to have the party and then not leave … bwahaha!!!).

Jul 9, 2005 - 2:23 am 16. Ripper:

Charles I thought something had gone wrong with my comnputer last night. I hope that you are back up

and running by this morning. Thank you Mr. Simon for

letting Charles use your blog.

Jul 9, 2005 - 3:47 am 17. madawaskan:

waaaaaa!!!!

OK honestly-I’m missing the LGF Insomniac’s Club!

Where else can you talk to a transvestite Aisha/Dave from Australia…and he doesn’t think you are nuts ’cause it’s well 2:00 a.m. in the morning…

Or get fed links constantly from around the globe that have been prescreened and filtered by LGFers so that you can know which ones you want to read…

Kagar’s Insomniac Club….I’m going through spoon fed link withdrawal……

waaaaaaa….AGAIN!

Jul 9, 2005 - 4:34 am 18. Engineer:

Well, I thought that maybe there were too many of us down here in Texas parting. :-)

We had a good time last night. Lots of lizzards to meet in the flesh. Don’t have a full list, too many to keep track of.

Jul 9, 2005 - 4:51 am 19. Beagle:

Nice of Mr. Simon to open himself up to the reptilian hordes. Thank you.

Reminds me of Dan Brown’s first novel Digital Fortress. Your TRANSLATR just melted down Charles. I hope it wasn’t for the same reasons. You don’t know any three-fingered Asian programmers do you?

Speaking of Acts of God, we have a giant swirley one in the Gulf. You owe me a drunk weatherman.

Sorry about the WOPR-TRANSLATR-CERN ZOG computer mishap. I hope you can get the fusion reactors up again.

The Telegraph is particularly good this morning, while the Guardian continues to cause my dog to growl every time I click the link. Really. Would I lie?

Jul 9, 2005 - 5:01 am 20. foreign devil:

Thank-you Roger and thank-you Charles, for letting us know what’s happening. The site was very slooooow yesterday and I thought it was me, at first. I used all my site cleaners and when that didn’t work I switched browsers. Nothing. This morning I tried again…same result. Then I thought…aha! Roger will know what’s happening. PJMedia to the rescue!

Ahhhhhgg!!!!!

I gave up after two tries last night, and assumed the problem was something at my end. Maybe I’n not paranoid enough to be a full-blooded minion.

Jul 9, 2005 - 6:13 am 24. Yank in the EU:

Godspeed to you Charles. Look forward to good discussions.

Jul 9, 2005 - 6:14 am 25. quark2:

Good morning Mr.Simon.

Again, thanx for letting the lizzards have a place to land!

Charles, you’re losing your fan club. LGFWatch is yanking the plug. Waahhhhh! :)

All the lizzards that came in last night for the Texas bbq had a great time introducing themselves. There will be some great stories to share. Onward and towards a great bbq party today! Yehaw!

Jul 9, 2005 - 6:20 am 26. littleoldlady:

Good morning, afternoon, evening *everyone*! ( had to say that.) And thanks, Roger L Simon!

Two things…

1. I have to correct the spelling on BenZacharia’s post: That would be AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGG! (Not Ahhhgggg. But I agree wholeheartedly!) And

2. I have (as usual, a stupid) question: Is a “web server hard drive” something you have to go out to the store and buy, i.e. hardware? I mean….it could be HOURS…no, DAYS! until Charles can get LGF up and running. There’s a giant BBQ in Texas and a FNDT today….

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGG!

(Where’s my bloodpressure meds?!)

Jul 9, 2005 - 6:22 am 27. J.D.:

Morning littleoldlady, et al.

LGF is BACK!

Thank you, Mr. Simon.

I knew Kos would have his revenge someday for all those times Charles mocked him. :)

Jul 9, 2005 - 10:15 am 30. richard mcenroe:

Anthony, hell, Kos can’t even keep his own site up…

Jul 9, 2005 - 10:59 am 31. Tin_Foil_Toppler:

Charles,

I am wondering when you are going to open the registration back up at your site. I have been trying to register all day but it says registration closed.
