In the wake of 7/7…

Reuel Marc Gerecht explores the situation in Europe with his characteristic brilliance. This time the results are scary:

In Europe as elsewhere, Westernization is the key to the growth and virulence of hard-core Islamic radicalism. The most frightening, certainly the most effective, adherents of bin Ladenism are those who are culturally and intellectually most like us. The process of Westernization liberates a Muslim from the customary sanctions and loyalties that normally corralled the dark side of the human soul. Respect for one’s father, an appreciation for the human need to have fun, a toleration of eccentricity and naughty personal behavior, the love of art and folk music–all are characteristics of traditional mainstream Muslim society wiped away by the arrival of modernity and the simultaneous spread of sterile, esthetically empty, angry, Saudi-financed Wahhabi thought. In this sense, bin Ladenism is the Muslim equivalent of Western totalitarianism. This cleaning of the slate, this break with the past, is probably more profound in the Muslim enclaves in Europe–what Gilles Kepel called les banlieues de l’Islam–than it is in the urban sprawl of Cairo, where traditional mores, though under siege and badly battered by modernity, nevertheless retain considerable force. Cairo gave us Ayman al-Zawahiri, al Qaeda’s great intellectual; it’s not unreasonable to fear that London or Paris or Berlin will give us his successor.

No Middle Eastern nation funds indolence for the hoi polloi. I am convinced that Europeís lavish welfare systems are mostly (and yes, this is the number one reason) responsible for the growth of Islamic nihilism on the continent. Many of these fools have plenty of time to feel sorry for themselves and waste time on self destructive endeavors.

Human beings generally need to earn a living to keep them from going mad. The exceptions are few and far between. For every individual who will write the great philosophic tract or paint a masterpiece if their finances allowed—a dozen others will go to hell in a hand basket. The welfare state unwittingly encourages spiritual disintegration.

Pamela Bone (The Age, Australia) has some comments along the same line in her latest op-ed (”Time to Set Some Limits”):

I have long valued multiculturalism. But there is something wrong when second and third-generation Muslims can believe the society in which they grew up – indeed, into which they were born – is evil to the core and needs to be destroyed. There is something wrong with multiculturalism when Muslims can attend mosques in Europe that are more radical than some in the Middle East.

The irony that won’t go away:

The Madrid bombings brought about an even more socially liberal government in Al-Andalusia, which led to such “infidel” moves, among others, as the legalization of gay marriages.

One of the bombers had everything that western society could bestow,http://www.wpherald.com/storyview.php?StoryID=20050714-090938-7384r but he still chose to blow himself to pieces alongside a group of strangers who never even knew of his existance…all for a belief which has only two responses to “the other” death or submission.

Ooh. I’m not so sure about “an appreciation for the human need to have fun, a toleration of eccentricity and naughty personal behavior” when I think of everything I’ve read about woman’s place in the traditional Muslim world view. Tell me I’m wrong.

Terrorists have turned the after life into a brothel. What the hell kind of a religion is that?

I wonder sometimes if there is enough of old Europe in Europe for them to go off on the Muslims. Look at their history… from time to time they go a little crazy. And when they do, look out.

And as more and more people associate the word Muslim with homicidal maniac it could get pretty ugly.

But maybe the Europeans have all been neutered and have been turned into this spineless multicultural jelly.

Has anyone ever read the original Planet of the Apes? When overwhelmed, man did not even put up a fight.

POST AT WIZBANG

Jay,

Reuters is just symptomic of the larger MSM “rooting” for the enemy and trying very hard for the West to loose the GWOT. If they get their wish I would protect my head at all costs. You never know when you might loose it.

The LL and the MSM have lost it and are off on a crying jag on being with the ilk of the apologists. They are a big “turd” stuck in the toilet blocking and filtering info/new to the American people that is critical to hear or read.

See this post I’ve linked back from several sites. The last being from Red Hot Cuppa:

Red Link

POST TO WOC The Original Thread

Where the @#$% are the feminists groups who aren’t raising hell . . . . ?

Bill and All

I went on to add this further comment to my original post. I’ve been wondering why the feminists groups haven’t taken on the cause of the women who are victims of Islamofascism. It this because the MSM has not been covering these stories or is there something else to it?

This how we will destroy the enemy and wipe its ideology of hate and evil from the face of the earth. The sooner this war is won, the less lives will be lost .

Lizaroids – The Blogos now has the power to bring these messages directly to the people without blocking or filtering by the MSM. Please share with all of your friends and anyone who will listen. You are the troops in CyberSpace that will win this war.

This war will not be won on the ground as it is a war of ideas, culture, religion, and ideology. The message we need to bring is the ideology of Islamofascism is doomed to failure just like Nazism, Communism, and Fascism that have been discarded into history’s dustbin.

The key failure of these totalitarian, repressive, and evil ideologies is that they do not recognize the universal truth of the free will of men and WOMEN!

How about an Oprah hookup to bypass the MSM with the atrocities these male dominated Islamofascist regimes commit on women like these poor Iranian women!

Modern Day Stoning and Hanging and Mullahs hang CHILDREN too!

Sorry if I’m a touch passionate here but where the @#$% are the feminists groups who aren’t raising hell and bringing this to the attention of the women of the world!

Have we lost all meaning in our vocabulary to describe this barbaric, horrorific, sadistic, and misogynic torture of women that these asshats carryout in the name of a “religion” of peace.

This is evil incarnate! There is no defense or excuse. The line must be drawn in the sand.

There can be no reasoning or appeasement for those who would carry out these vile acts in modern society. They must be destroyed before the infect our culture.

“Terrorists have turned the after life into a brothel” I read somewhere that one of the 9 11 hijackers was a lap dance connoisseur. Should we take a pole ;) …. never mind.

The Atlantic Monthly has an article on what I can only describe is a younger Muslim Billy Graham (close to those in power yet seemingly immune) that is attracting quite a following in Cairo.

“Ali Gomaa, the grand mufti of Egypt and one of the highest-ranking clerics in the Sunni Muslim world, had denounced what the West refers to as fundamentalism. Although many Muslim leaders have stepped forward to condemn terrorist violence in recent years, no one before had even implicitly attacked the philosophy, often known as Wahhabism, that is thought to give rise to it -in no small part because Wahhabism is the official doctrine of Saudi Arabia, which controls the holy city of Mecca. But Gomaa did so, and went further: he referred to the extremists as khawerig, or “outsiders” -persons who fail to follow true Islamic law.”

Someone posed to the cleric a “difficult” question at a Q&A session, “what would you do if your wife asked for a divorce” and the cleric responded by asking -what did you do? prompting subdue laughter from the audience. The cleric told him he failed in his duty as a husband; therefore he should grant her the divorce. Stunning? (ed -No, it was not Joe Wilson asking ;)

The article goes on to point out that this cleric believes and is accordingly preaching that many of the claims Wahhabism imposes on Muslims are not based on the teachings of true Islam.

Let’s hope this guy has a chance to be heard.

Meanwhile, at a nearby galaxy – Any minute now the London CC Video of that fateful morning will spot Carl Rove entering one of the London Tubes wearing a leaky backpack ;)

Even before the Supremes refusal to hear his case, Rove will be “interrogated” by a low cut, brawless female Army Intelligence Agent at Guantanamo. Democrats will cry foul, preferential treatment, charching Guantanamo to be a country club jail, not rough enough for a remorseless Rove.

Senator Schumer – Why these people are given 3 kinds of fruit, prayer time outs, Arabian rugs and Durbin strength air conditioning. Martha Stuart never had it so good. Look, there is even a song singing the praises of Guantanamo, Guajira Guantanamera. The songwriter goes as far as to say that when he dies he want to be buried there. Where is the fairness Mr chairmen?

Rove has been sent to a Caribbean paradise. ;)

We all know how reluctant I am to knock modern Europe, but this seems a little too close to blaming the victim. Wahabi is not a recent problem; the British were killing them in large numbers even in India in the 18th century. The only thing Europe has done to provoke Wahabism is exist and be noticed.

Nice comment on root causes by Pooh at Daily Ablution.

Like millions of other Jews, my great-grandmother was born into a life of terrible poverty and even worse discrimination in a small town in the Pale of Settlement. She never attended school and could not read or write. Her earliest memories were of death, pogroms, hunger and cold.

Escaping to England with just a few roubles in her pocket, she spent the next few years helping raise her younger brother and sisters and working 12-14 hour days in various sweatshops. On Saturdays, she got up at 4 in the morning to “stand markets” so she could earn a little extra to help feed and clothe her family. Not a few times, she was called a “dirty Jew” and told to “go back to Palestine.” On at least two occasions, children threw stones at her.

Starting a business with her recently demobbed husband who had spent four years fighting in the trenches, she made her way up the ladder inch by painful inch. During World War II, she personally helped save many Jews from the gas chambers. The Jewish inhabitants of her own town were all murdered. She died possessed of a considerable fortune at age 86 in her very beautiful home in Hampstead. All of her children and grandchildren were or would become university graduates. All of her children and grandchildren attended private schools. Having been gassed in the trenches, her husband never really regained his health, and died in his late 30s leaving her to cope alone with a growing family and burgeoning business.

If you would have talked to her about root causes and revenge, she would have thought you were completely mad.

Folks I just laid down this challenge to the LIZAROIDS over at LGF perhaps there are some who would like to help as well:

Doesn’t cost anything and besides it will drive the MSM nuts! A little pys-ops from us.

LIZARDOIDS TO WAR!

[...]

Lizardoid we need to harness the energy of the Blogos to strike the enemy at it’s very heart THE MAD MULLAHS OF IRAN for the world’s very first digital revolution.

This is the fastest way of building critical mass to generate a self-sustaining reaction in the Blogos. We can’t wait for the LL and the MSM to wake up from their stupor. They’re a large “turd” in the toilet blocking and filtering information critical to the American people. FIRE !

We have very little time left to take advantage of a strategic opportunity staring us in the face. The fall of the Iranian regime will deliver a crushing if not fatal blow to the enemy in the GWOT.

The Mad Mullahs of Iran will melt in the intense light of the free world just like the Wicked Witch of the East did in the Wizard of OZ.

The bubbling up of the Islamists in our midst is happening sooner than I thought it would.

There are two fronts in this War: one in the M.E. and the other at home.

For a while the foreign front held our attention (and our arguments) now the other front shows its face. The war in Iraq is essentially over and now we can concentrate on the Islamist war at home.

The fact that the war has these two fronts is the reason I’ve never expected, and don’t anticipate, military operations in any country other than Iraq. I don’t expect us to invade Syria, to bomb Iran, or anywhere else (barring unforseen known and unknown unknowns) in the near future. Because it’s time to turn our attention inward.

The war in Iraq had many reasons, the main one being a more secure future rather than a more secure present. Get that out of the way, shake up the status quo, get the ball rolling for permanent changes in ME societies and governance, then turn back inward to handle the immediate threat of Islamism inside our borders.

The Left/Democrats/Liberals (whatever we want to name those opposed to Iraq) while possibly able to understand the local front (time will tell) never did, and still don’t, understand the long term benefits of the foreign front as manifest in Iraq.

No matter. Bush basically accomplished that end of it and if his opponents at home would stop their three-year-old harping about a fete accompli, we can possibly come together to fight the local front.

Possibly. or not. Time will tell.

Jul 17, 2005 - 7:15 pm 14. chuck:

Syl,

Possibly. or not.

Mark me down in the not column. I think the Democrats are convinced they have a winning issue, if only all those people who voted for Bush weren’t just so, so stupid! So the Democratic strategy will remain yelling louder and louder and louder until all those stupid people see the light.

Very interesting and original analysis on your part just above. Both what you wrote and what Reuel Marc Gerecht writes here strike me as fruitful and original takes on the W.O.I.L.*

More than the specific content of Gerecht’s piece, as useful as that was, it was its inventiveness and originality that prompted me to call it to Roger’s attention.

Terrorists have turned the after life into a brothel.

Not only that, but a particularly infantile version of a brothel where every courtesan is a perpetual virgin ripe for deflowering. You’d think that at least occasionaly even a martyr would appreciate the services of a lady more schooled and experienced in the art of love.

The whole concept is very telling I think.

Jul 18, 2005 - 6:20 am 19. Kyda Sylvester:

I’m not suggesting they could impress her, only that they might enjoy her. OTOH, wouldn’t martyr’s paradise be rather like Stepford where every man is proclaimed a stud whether worthy of the designation or not?

Thanks. The domestic front is really worrisome. Da’wah is basically non-violent but still attempts to overthrow the existing system through legal and societal means. Another march through the institutions, so to speak.

I don’t think it’s accidental the connection between Said and multiculturalism.

Though unviolent, the adherents are so extreme that it takes very little to convince them to cross the line into violence.
