at the press briefing today I believe I heard a reporter from India make a statement rather than ask a question. He said that the questions at the joint press conference of Singh and Bush about the Rove/Wilson affair were an insult to India and the Indian Prime Minister.

And right he was.

Pictures our MSM will avoid (or is this being too cynical?).

Here is the actual quote:

Q What I’m — my question — comment, also, about when the leaders visit the White House, and they have press availability in the East Room, not only the India today, but any Prime Minister or President. I feel it’s kind of insult to that leader, he’s standing there, only two questions, but only his own people are asking about his visit or his nation, but other questions are always on different topics. I feel, personally, it’s insult to that leader and –

MR. McCLELLAN: I’m sorry, I didn’t get –

Q — that if it’s the Indian leader visiting here, that press availability should be only on India.

MR. McCLELLAN: Oh, okay. I think you’re opinion is noted. Go ahead.

Great article about Indo-US relations right after the 2004 election…http://news.indiamart.com/news-analysis/indo-us-ties-under-b-8108.html

Chock full of tidbits of info.

TedM,

The MSM always does that when dignitaries visit–”ugly Americans” that they are. What do they care about the impression they leave with the rest of the world? They have other things on their mind. Good for the Indian reporter. I wish Bush had said something pointed and Texan-like (he probably did in a private moment with the P.M.), echoing the sentiments out loud, but being Presidential seems to mean just rolling your eyes and shrugging your shoulders these days. Sadly. Take off the gloves. And get a press secretary with some authority in his voice and step. Some stature.

Oops. I thought it was the press conference that was being referred to and not a press briefing. My bad.

What unserious political hacks our MSM has turned out to be. I’m ashamed. Truly ashamed.

What a fine democracy we have, where the duty of the press is to make themselves the story.

A pox on all of them.

Although your specific example might have been slightly off the mark, your point is exactly right.

Why should anyone simply stand there and present himself for MSM target practise? That is not bringing ‘dignity’ to the office or administration the press secretary is supposed to be representing. It is merely giving the appearance of weakness and dissembling. Scottie is a TERRIBLE person to have in this role at this moment in time, and why he is still there is a complete mystery to me.

As to the complete world ignorance and ridiculous ethno-centrism of the MSM, their behaviour is INSULTING. They need to be called on it. Frankly this aspect of Bush’s performance has always struck me as extremely weak. I fail to see what he believes he gains by not going toe to toe with these creatures. I just don’t get it.

Just for the record: I like Scott and I liked Ari. They’d be great neighbors. If I played the stereo a bit loud I’m sure they’d ask me nicely (and repeatedly) to turn it down. But I don’t think they are/were the right people given the times we face and the media they face. On the other hand, if it is rope-a-dope and Wilson and Plame or some others are going to take a hit, then Scott might be the best kind of person to take a beating. Who knows what is really going on. Anyway, in general, I’d prefer a Fred Thompson type. Or Rove himself as press secretary–now that would be interesting.

I like people from India. They’re always nice to me when I have technical problems at 1:00 AM, here.

I saw the joint press conference yesterday between the Indian Prime Minister and President Bush. The new and closer relationship with India is really big and good news.

I was so ashamed by the American “journalists” and their arrogant and irrelavent questions. They were a disgrace. It makes you wonder about the value of freedom of the press when all we get are these ignorant jerks.

Jul 19, 2005 - 5:57 am 13. richard mcenroe:

Carolyn รณ And worst of all, they missed their chance to ask the PM how Rove tricked him into signing the treaty…

To bring back the Hollywood theme from the last couple of threads: “The world’s still big, Miss Desmond. It’s the Democratic Party that got small.”
