Mark Steyn tells it all. And Charles reminds us that “it may not be too late to stop this amazingly inappropriate memorial from being built; the National Park Service will make the final decision, and you can contact them here: Flight 93 National Memorial – Contact Us.”

1. David [.net]:If built this way, no one will be able visit without thinking of Islam. The subversion might be pointed the other way, regardless of intent.
Sep 13, 2005 - 11:20 am 2. binkley:Unbelievable!
When I try to post a polite letter asking for a change of design, the USPS web site reponds with a web error saying the URL for the form Submit is bad. That’s one way to ignore citizen feedback.

SENTENCED to death for his role in the embassy bombing in Jakarta last year, the terrorist known as Rois had an unrepentant message for Australia.
“All of you will receive heavier punishment than what you have done to me,” he said, smiling, as he was led away by armed police. “It should be borne in mind that any act of injustice against Muslims anywhere in the world will not go unavenged. Muslims will certainly avenge this.” …
SNIP
Rois joins Bali bombers Mukhlas, Imam Samudra and Amrozi bin Nurhasyim on Indonesia’s death row and, like them, he said he welcomed a martyr’s death.
“I thank God because God has shown me this is an evil court,” Rois said, refusing to say if he would appeal. “I reject the verdict, because it is derived from evil law, not from the law of God. I thank God, because if we are sentenced to die with an evil law, we are sure we will have a holy death.” …

Of course, he’s just joshing and misunderstood. Sean Penn would tell him that some might even believe what he says and that’s not helpful.
Sep 13, 2005 - 12:03 pm 6. Jamie Irons:Fausta, Knucklehead, and everyone,
I had the same problem with their server.
So I called using the number on the page referred to above, and got a very polite Park Service employee who said their server was doing this as it was (to use his word) “overtaxed.”
He kindly took my name, phone number, and my message:

Sep 13, 2005 - 12:05 pm 7. PJ:I saw the movie and was surprised that Lisa Beamer did not participate in it. She has no comment. Todd Beamer was barely mentioned.
In the discussion afterwards with Tom Brokaw I detected appeasement/peacenik hints. I googled one parent and found this:
http://www.mindfully.org/Reform/Flight93-Call-For-Peace.htm
Could it be Lisa Beamer disagrees with these nuts? If so, I hope she speaks out.
I am not surprised at all that we have yet another anti-US memorial. With the IFC and this monstrosity, we announce to the world our self-loathing. We might as well give up without a fight.
Sep 13, 2005 - 12:05 pm 8. Kevin P:Roger:
The self delusional attitude of the self loathing poltical wing of this country reminds me of women who suffer at the hands of wife beating husbands and think if they just try to improve their behaviour their beatings will stop. They turn the animal like behaviour of their husbands and absorb the guilt themselves. It never works. The beatings do not stop because of the wife’s behaviour. The husband admits his sins and tries to change himself or the wife suffers so many beatings that they finally come to the conclusion that no matter what they do it will not stop and they escape. The site should be used as a tribute to those men and women who gave their lives to save ours. It should not be used as a outreach to people who will laugh at our naivete. They will not see the crescent and change their minds. They will see our outstretched hand and cut it off. I have seen women who take beating after beating and will not stop making excuses for their husband. How many more national beatings will it take before the left comes to the conclusion that these gestures are ignored and will not stop the belt from striking them on the face. How many more beatings will it take? This problem does not come from our lack of respect for the Muslim faith. Change the national cathedral in D.C. to a mosque and it will not stop.Take all of our references to God in our historical documents to Allah and it will not stop.If we dump the constitution and the supreme court and institute Sharia law, well, that will do it.

Sep 13, 2005 - 12:45 pm 10. PeterUK:PJ,
You will not be allowed to give up without a fight, the Islamofascists require you to be subjugated, only if they can defeat the most powerful nation on earth will they be vindicated.
Nor will surrender be accepted only abject and utter submission will suffice.
Ironically the Islamists don’t despise your warriors they despise your liberals, for them they would reserve their most condign humiliations.
Sep 13, 2005 - 12:50 pm 11. m.g.:On the Flight 93 National Memorial site:
The [design] competition was funded through the generous support of the Heinz Endowments and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Think Teresa Heinz can help stop this monstrosity from being built? She is the chairman of the Heinz Endowments and said this on its Web site:
With the Flight 93 memorial, that meant supporting the search for a truly excellent design that, in honoring the dead, would also inspire the living.
Inspired enough to send her an e-mail at info@heinz.org?
Sep 13, 2005 - 12:53 pm 12. Sandy P:I also noticed Lisa Beamer was not included.
She was a tower of strength.
Sep 13, 2005 - 1:04 pm 13. m.g.:Those links above should be Flight 93 National Memorial site and Heinz Endowments.
