Usually the MSM looks for the one in the most antedeluvian outfit for miles and portrays her as the average Iraqi woman.

On a completely superficial, vacuos note, I love the outfit the lady in red is wearing. Makeup, jewelry, nail polish, and RED. No nun-like burka for her, even when she’s covered her head.

I call that a fashion statement.

In the short term, the calmness of voting and the approval of the new constitution will be recast by Reuters, Jimmy Carter, Michael Moore, Juan Cole, Ted Kennedy, Howard Dean, Maureen Dowd, et al as phony, illegitimate, misleading, proof of nothing, etc. Then a few years down the road when Iraq is a functioning democratic state, they will say that this obviously would have happened all along without US intervention and would have happened faster without Chimphitler Bush.

Congratulations to Iraq and to the brave men and women who voted today. I must add congratulations to Bush, too, who has perservered when everyone else doubted and reviled him. I have the feeling today that things are going to be all right there.

(I note both Reuters and the NYT have to insert their big BUT in their stories about the vote. I predict the MSM will ignore the success–don’t want to be caught showing a good thing in Iraq!)
