Clive Davis following the opening of this long-awaited film. Meanwhile, Mel Gibson is planning a Holocaust movie, causing worry in some quarters. I’d rather wait and see it.

1. David Thomson:Mel Gibson will likely do a spectacular job dealing with the subject of the Holocaust. Iím sure that he does not share the extreme views of his elderly father. Moreover, the fact that he is not Jewish may be a major plus. Far too many Jews have been falsely guilt tripped into believing that they are victimizing the Palestinians.
I am a theological modernist and not a believing Christian. Jesus Christ is not my perceived lord and savior. I must be blunt: Jews have far less to worry about from Mel Gibson than Steven Spielberg! Evangelical Protestants and somewhat conservative Catholics reject the notion that Israel is a fascist state. The same cannot be said regarding Mr. Spielberg and perhaps most liberal Jews.
Dec 7, 2005 - 8:17 pm 2. beautifulatrocities:My PC friends were aghast at the Gibson story. Oddly, when I told them that Israeli-hater / modern day Gorki Tony Kushner had been called in to clean up the Spielberg Munich script, they weren’t concerned at all

I donít know whether to laugh or cry. The greatest threat to the disparate Jewish community today is perhaps the leftist Jew who has been seduced into embracing self hatred. Tony Kushner is a self hating Jew. That is beyond debate. He has been seduced into believing that Israel is a fascist state victimizing the Palestinians. Steven Spielberg probably thinks similarly.
Abraham Foxman recently attacked evangelical Christians. This has got be one of the goofiest things Iíve ever encountered. It is utterly absurd. Foxman should instead be going after the self hating Jews. He obviously does not who his real enemies are.
Dec 8, 2005 - 7:08 am 4. beautifulatrocities:Agreed about Kushner, but we should steer clear of the self-hating meme, which is usually a leftist ad hominem. I don’t care whether he hates himself, it’s his agitprop I don’t like

Actually, self hatred of one past traditions is always mandated by the radical left. One is suppose to spit on them to prove that they are now liberated and possessing of elitist values. This is true for Jews, Christians, or whatever.
The Jews paid for the land in Palestine. They donít owe anybody anything. The very concept of a ìPalestinianî is very recent. How did things get so confused? Thatís because many of the immigrating European Jews were ardent leftists. Heck, many truly believed that all property is theft! The world was separated into the camps of the oppressed and the oppressors. Also, the Arabs were usually darker skinned. These Jews were therefore easily conned into believing that they were members of the oppressing class colonializing the Arabs. It really is as simple as that.
Dec 8, 2005 - 7:37 am 6. beautifulatrocities:You’re right, I know the psychology, I only meant the self-loathing meme is usually thrown out as an ad hominem by lib / leftists when they encounter a designated minority who doesn’t toe the identity politics party line. And if you try to engage them on that level, you’ve left the field of discussion (which is the point) & find yourself in the ridiculous position of trying to prove your innocence vis a vis self-hatred.
(I’ve tried asking why it’s self-loathing for homos / blacks / undecideds to want to keep more of their paycheck or not be offed by an Islamonutter, but never gotten a clear response)
Dec 8, 2005 - 7:56 am 7. markus:David Thomson — ever heard of Neturei Karta? I’d urge you to do your brotherly Christian duty, and go tell one of them, or some other Haredi Jew, that their problem is that they are “self-hating.”
