Make that a hundred sharks. He told viewers of his “700 Club” that: Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s massive stroke could be God’s punishment for giving up Israeli territory. He also said: Sharon was “dividing God’s land,” even though the Bible says doing so invites “God’s enmity.”
Robertson added, “I would say woe to any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course.”
Wow.
Meanwhile, from the world of the sane…The blood thinner given to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon after his mini-stroke in December may have backfired. In Sharon’s case, the medication might have contributed to the massive stroke he suffered on Wednesday, in what experts say is a classic illustration of this seeming paradox in stroke treatment.

1. Anthony (Los Angeles):Don’t we have Anti-Idiot laws in this country? I guess not, or they would have gotten Kos, too.

Roger: I broke the blood thinner angle on your site last night. (Self-Congratulatory pat on back)
Jan 5, 2006 - 1:36 pm 3. Fausta:Just when you think Pat Robertson can’t disgrace himself any further, he opens his mouth again.
Jan 5, 2006 - 2:02 pm 4. byrd:It’s time for good Christians to stop being silent about this idiot in our midst and proclaim a fatwa against him. Who knows, maybe it’ll catch on.
Jan 5, 2006 - 3:08 pm 5. Shochu John:I think Pat’s phone line to Jesus is a bit fuzzy. Ariel Sharon’s health problems probably have a lot more to do with his being elderly and overweight than anything else. Just look at the numbers and it becomes clear that what God hates is old people and fat people. Look how often He kills them compared to other people. To avoid God’s wrath, people should avoid growing old or getting fat. Consider yourselves warned.
Jan 5, 2006 - 3:46 pm 6. Silicon valley Jim:Assuming arguendo that Sharon’s stroke is punishment for giving up Israeli territory, what was Robertson’s prostate cancer
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/02/13/national/main540513.shtml
intended to punish?
Jan 5, 2006 - 3:47 pm 7. Jamie Irons:Roger,
I don’t obviously know the details of Sharon’s case, but from what you say here it sounds like the anticoagulants (”blood thinners,” probably a warfarin-like compound) which are designed to lessen the probability of a recurrence of an embolic event (blood clot), did their job too well, and led to a hemorrhagic stroke (a bleed into the brain).

Jan 5, 2006 - 5:02 pm 8. Pat Curley:I was kinda curious about the reaction of my fellow L-Dotters, since that’s a much more conservative crowd. Looks like about 95% are saying Robertson’s an idiot. One or two are citing scripture in support of his point.
Jan 5, 2006 - 5:11 pm 9. Bostonian:What a nutbar he is.
Jan 5, 2006 - 5:34 pm 10. Charlie (Colorado):…what was Robertson’s prostate cancer … intended to punish?
I’m not real up on the Bible — what’s it say is the punishment for being a fucking idiot?
Jan 5, 2006 - 7:08 pm 11. Barry Dauphin:Of course, after being exposed to yet another one of Robertson’s idiocies, the natural question would be- why is God punishing the rest of us?
Jan 5, 2006 - 7:19 pm 12. lindenen:I wonder if Pat Robertson’s very existence could be used as evidence against evolution?
Jan 5, 2006 - 7:39 pm 13. Mike_Nargizian:See my post on this.
The Israelis should have operated on him last week first of all. The guy is 78 and they’re assuming powerful blood thinners aren’t dangerous to be on any longer than you have to be.
They likely caused a stroke due to leakage or breakage of a blood vessel as oppposed due to a minor clot that the small hole in his heart (from birth) caused a few weeks earlier.
And then after they drained the blood they had to go back in and do it again due to the twice a day blood thinners he was taking.
And that doesn’t even consider that they didn’t rush him by helicopter or even drive him to the nearest freekin hospital in Bersheba, they took him to Jerusalem.
AGAIN -
This is the country with the supposed top doctors, trauma units and response teams in the world…..
If Bush swallows a friggin pretzel he’s flown to an Emergency Room fer Chris sakes~!!!!
And he’s 50 something and in good shape.
Jan 5, 2006 - 8:18 pm 14. David Thomson:ì…could be God’s punishment for giving up Israeli territory.î
I also thought it wise to move the Jews (and other sane people) out of Gaza. Oh well, Iím not a major player like Ariel Sharon. Maybe God will only inflict a bad headache on me?
Jan 5, 2006 - 8:44 pm 15. Steven Mitchell:Pat Robertson is prominent and quoted *because* he is an idiot. There are thousands of reasonable and sane evangelicals in this country. When was the last time you saw one interviewed?
Jan 6, 2006 - 9:13 am 16. Captain Hate:I’m always pleased to see the fellow posters here come down hard on Robertson when he makes a really stupid statement. How many times to the inmates at Kos and DU come down hard on a prominent lib for saying something equally deranged?
