The bombing of the shrine in Samarra has all the looks of a desperation move on the part of its perpetrators. You have to be in an extremely weak position to resort to something that will get you as much bad press ^[1] as this action did among your own people.

UPDATE: BlogRevolt ^[2] sees a split within Al Qaeda.
