I only caught the last 10 minutes or so but South Park was facing impending doom because “Smug Clouds” from driving hybrids were about to collide with the smug cloud from George Clooney’s academy award speech. I especially liked the part about “San Francisco was sucked up its own asshole.” Gotta catch the full episode.

The only way to really WIN this war on terror must constantly be brought up until the masses buy hybrid out of guilt. Watch GM, Ford and Daimler build and rehire out of the loyalty craze driven by the desire of loyalists to drive the ME oil economy into the dirt. This is capatilistic agitprop at its best and most valuable moment. (And for those of you that are offended by the use of the word “agitprop” – wake up, look around…)

After cleaning up the coffee on the keyboard (mucus is tough to clean… did you get the visual?), I think that you may have hit upon something that I didn’t consider about this post. The issue is not to make it the Smug Cloud purchase, but the anti Smug Cloud purchase. Make this the “Screw Smug Hollywood” purchase. And no, I’m not a marketing puke/person.

So, if they’re in a lane without stop-and-go traffic, their relative efficiency isn’t as good as it would be if they were in with the common sort.
For a constant vehicle mix, it could probably be shown that having special lanes for hybrids actually reduces overall fuel economy. (Though this probably isn’t true if you believe the existence of the lanes encourages more people to buy the hybrids)
