Andrew Marcus (with video camera), Juliette Ochieng (aka baldilocks) and I will be covering the immigration demonstration in LA tomorrow for Pajamas Media. If you are a blogger or just a concerned citizen who would like to help us, we will be rendezvousing in the lobby of the New Otani Hotel (120 S. Los Angeles St.) at 8:30AM. Bring your digital camera and/or tape recorder. Spanish speakers especially welcome.

1. promoguy:Yeah, but you guys better figure what to have for lunch other than a fat burrito.
I’m boycotting Mexican Food for the day. Won’t even go into a Pollo Loco.
What a waste of a day. Wish I had workers on my payroll who would take off so I could FIRE them.
Idiotic at best.
Oh almost forgot!!! Roger do you have our wonderful national anthem sung now in Spanish to memory. I’m sure that will be another big treat we’ll have to put up with.
Apr 30, 2006 - 2:41 pm 2. Ron:13 million illegals in the country marching with Moslems, carrying flags of other countries, conspiring and preaching revolution and sedition. Aren’t you just a little nervous about what is happening.
We have an act of War being set upon us by Mexico and our elected officials, the Senators, Representatives can only discuss how we will give these border jumpers citizenship. Pushing your citizens across a border like Fox has done is not a friendly act, it is anything but, it is an act of war and has always been thus. We have 13 million men of military age in this country illegally and seditious organizations telling them that this is “THEIR” country. The seeds of revolution and bloodshed are being sown with the connivence of Mexico and the stupidity of our own government.
Apr 30, 2006 - 3:07 pm 3. Wildmonk:Woah Ron, isn’t that a bit over the top? First of all, where do you get the idea that there are 13 million illegals when I’ve generally heard lower figures? More importantly, what on earth makes you think they are all “men of military age”? Finally, where the hell do you get the idea that they are “marching with Moslems”? There *are* a few folks of ancestry other than Mexican - including Muslims - that have attended some of these demonstrations but they are vanishingly small in numbers. Looks like you have a serious need to stoke the fires a bit more than is healthy and, honestly, it discredits your point of view.
Seriously, the vast majority of the illegals that are here want to be an American citizen if they can because it beats the hell out of being a Mexican citizen. The fact that some minority of them hoist the Mexican flag or say stupid things is irritating and is likely to lead to a clampdown. But a military coup? Come on, get a grip.
Apr 30, 2006 - 7:41 pm 4. Vexorg:I plan to make a rather large purchase tomorrow (A new barbecue grill) that I have actually delayed until tomorrow for this very reason. Quite frankly, I think someone should show this mess of Che Guevara wannabes who’s boss and start tossing them back over the fence.
Apr 30, 2006 - 9:53 pm 5. Lem:I lay some of the responsibility for the surge of illegal aliens on that much talked about but often misunderstood relative of ours; globalization and our cousin NAFTA.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan, despite the illegal aliens. I believe NAFTA has done more good than harm. (at least that’s what my IRA says) But, we need to face some hard cold facts if we are to continue enjoying our blessings. Some people, lots of people, are not willing to wait for those blessings to come to them.
In some ways I believe the WOT has precipitated the difficulties we have been postponing since the fall of the Berlin wall. Our sense of insecurity it is said to be the rest of the world near death experience.
The Berlin wall was literally and symbolically the strongest border of the modern era. When that wall came down lots of eyes were opened in more ways than imagined.
We are aware of the good that has come as a result of winning the cold war, but I believe some of us have our head in the sand about the forces we have unleashed.
We are in for some shock therapy. As for what to do about it?
The rising tide of ilegals is like rising gas prices. We are yet to encounter critical mass, the precursor to action. Curbing our gas appetite and enforcing our immigrations laws would be a start.
Apr 30, 2006 - 10:23 pm 6. Jhn'1:Well, find out where they are parking the vehicles that are bringing in the illegals and take down the plate #s.
Apr 30, 2006 - 10:26 pm 7. syn:Let DHS visit the addresses and check out how many illegals are there. Repeat after each “protest”.
Estimate how long until they stop attending the protests because each time they get a visit from DHS. (Not using their own vehicles and using those of legal residents is a nonstarter because of how few could attend, ie: safety in mass #s, likelyhood of being caught if in small identifiable groups)
I believe Ron was making the point that the Mexican government is not intentionally exporting it’s poor for the purpose of them becoming American citizens.
Further, why is it that the majority of illegal aliens are from Mexico? For a country which has more billionaires than Switzerland and greater natural resources than America there is something odd about a government which encourages it’s poor to head across the border to clean Hollywood’s home for cheap.
I want legal migrants from around the world to have an opportunity to trive in freedom yet for some reason it appears that Mexican-only migrants get a free pass. This rather racist, inclusionary policy is un-American.
May 1, 2006 - 5:11 am 8. JeanneB:Be on the lookout for “voter registration” tables. I’ve seen references in several news articles about ACORN conducting voter drives in connection w/ the rallies. ACORN of course is best known for its fraudulent vote registration activities in the 2004 elections…just Google “ACORN voter registration fraud”.
Most voter registrars offices don’t check citizenship…they just rely on the signed statement of the registrant. Thus, it would be simple to flood the rolls with illegals…no questions asked.
May 1, 2006 - 5:14 am 9. Jabba the Tutt:Wildmonk: “Seriously, the vast majority of the illegals that are here want to be an American citizen if they can because it beats the hell out of being a Mexican citizen.”
What evidence do you have that the illegal border jumpers want to become Americans? It seems that they want America to become Mexico. That’s what the correct term to use is “illegal aliens”, not “illegal immigrants”. They say they’re here for jobs and a decent life, nothing about becoming Americans.
Where am I going wrong?
May 1, 2006 - 5:29 am 10. JoeS:The saddest part of this movement is that it is making a majority of very nice families look very stupid.
I teach at an inner city high school, the majority of these families do not support the boycott. ANSWER and the disgraceful LA Unified Schools teachers will radicalize these demonstrators and create a disaster. LAUSD provides busses for demonstrations.
The voter thing is for real. The democrat party has registered thousands. The guy who murdered Colosio (candidate for president of Mexico) was registered to vote at least twice.

(plus 8 of the 19 9/11 terrorists)
I was hoping there would be border enforcement and some sort of amnesty, like the President’s plan. These radical groups seem intent on poisoning this. They seem intent on wrecking any rational plan.
May 1, 2006 - 5:36 am 11. Lem:“They seem intent on wrecking any rational plan”
There is a brazen, in your face, bordering ;P on Palestinian zealotry on the part of some of these activistas. Is as if somehow by virtue of just being here is carte blanches to break our immigration laws with impunity.
Unabated law breaking encourages more of the same! This is a national security issue! It infuriates me that republicans and democrat are doing a trapeze act on this.
What am I missing? This is so clear cut a cave man could understand it ;
May 1, 2006 - 7:07 am 12. PJ:Yes, indeed, take pictures of the voter registration booths!
I’m not an economist, but here’s an article that says Mexico’s economic problems are not due to NAFTA but to the devaluation in ‘94.

I too am going to shop today, buy gas, all in the hopes of proving that some people actually want the chaos to end. I would even be willing to go back to the Clinton model: enough enforcement to keep it to a manageable level.
May 1, 2006 - 8:39 am 13. 4thOfJuly:Wildmonk-
You may not live in California where 1 in 4 school children are illegal. My daughter and her boyfriend both wait tables while going to school. The bus boys, cooks, etc. and both of their respective restaurants (they are upscale places) do not know, nor do they care to speak english. They intend to take back California.
How do I know this? My daughter and her boyfriend speak spanish and the Latinos that they talk to are very happy to tell you they don’t want to be American but want to take back the South West for Mexico.
I am no xenophobe, know many hardworking Mexicans that are completely against this. I am merely against legalizing illegal behavior.
May 1, 2006 - 9:08 am 14. SoCalTrojan:Hello All,
It was a beautiful drive time in LA today without all of the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS clogging the freeways. My 30 mile commute was finished in a mere 28 minutes normally lasting at least an hour.
So tell me how this is working in their favor. We see impressive amounts of traffic reduction; Congressman King from Iowa tells us this is what would happen with out all of the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS in our midst (From http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060427/NEWS09/604270382/1001/NEWS&lead=1):
Without illegal immigration, said King, “there would be no one to smuggle across our border the heroin, marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamines that plague the United States. . . . The lives of 12 U.S. citizens would be saved who otherwise die a violent death at the hands of murderous illegal aliens each day. . . . Our hospital emergency rooms would not be flooded. . . . Eight American children would not suffer the horror as a victim of a sex crime.”
I think the proof is in front of each one of us. We need to STOP the flow of latin refugees from the corrupt regimes south of our border. Once we have stemmed that tide we can talk about a “guest worker program” because with a 4% or less unemployment rate we do have a need for workers but without their wage reducing numbers we would be forced to find better ways to do our necessary work without them…which would not be a bad thing either.
Good luck on the afternoon drive,

13 million? If that’s true it’s double the size of Toronto. That’s a HUGE ARMY and if they turned ugly, as a certain segment carrying jihadi flags and posters might, well…
Who really uses all these illegals? People who can afford to. I worked two jobs most of my life and so did my husband, as do many others. I had a lady come bi-weekly to wax my floors and do the oven. She was Polish and had immigrated herself…legally. Her services sporadically were all I could afford at the time and she had a number of customers like me so we suited each other and no one suffered. Frankly, if people can afford a fulltime nanny, lawn guy, poolboy and whatever, they should pay more for someone who is legal. They are the ones hiring the illegals and creating the demand. They’d starve if they waited for people like me to hire them.
May 1, 2006 - 10:53 am 16. Achillea:I’d love to help out, guys, but I’m doing my counter-protesting part by working today. And, after work, I’m going to go shopping.
