From Reuters:
Hamas had distanced itself in the past from violence abroad blamed on al Qaeda, but in a statement faxed to Reuters after Zarqawi was killed in a U.S. air strike north of Baghdad on Wednesday,it said it mourned the Jordanian-born insurgent as a “martyr of the (Muslim Arab) nation”.“With hearts full of faith, Hamas commends brother-fighter Abu Musab … who was martyred at the hands of the savage crusade campaign which targets the Arab homeland, starting in Iraq,” the statement said.
Well, now we now. [Didn't we always?-ed. Yes, we did.]

1. Buddy Larsen:Arafat taught his children well. Liberated them to say anything they want, regardless of whatever they said before. Wonderful freedom, that, so long as being believed is of no concern.

Jun 8, 2006 - 4:41 pm 3. colonelmoore:Bill can’t be UN Secretary General, because the UN’s rules prohibit anyone who is a citizen of a permanent member of the Security Council from becoming a member. But I suggest Juan Cole, since he says he speaks Iranian, which will be a good asset in the upcoming drive to appease the mullahs.

ElMondo:Christ… Z-man killed more Muslims, and at a greater rate than anyone else in Iraq, save for the US, and most of those killing by the US were against insurgents — combatants, not bystanders! And even if the worst versions of the Haditha story is true, executions are not the modus operandi of the US military.
Yet, they call the Americans the “savage” ones…
Well… it is Hamas saying that. What did I expect? Cheers and celebrations at the news?

Z man was still alive when found and was placed on a stretcher. It is reported that he turned away and mumbled something before expiring.
I am told that what he said was “what was that big bang?”
Jun 9, 2006 - 8:40 am 6. Buddy Larsen:…followed by “Ugh, raisens!”
Jun 9, 2006 - 11:41 am 7. Kathy from Austin:Hamas never overlooks an opportunity to “open their mouths and remove all doubt,” as the saying goes. At a time when they really, really need support they don’t walk away from a chance to resurrect the memory of their lovely celebrations following 9/11. Sheesh. May the Z-man (as well as Hamas) rest in pieces.
