Peace would make them crazy

I am afraid the Palestinians have lived so long in a state of rage and paranoia that peace would give them a nervous breakdown. Imagine what would happen in the highly unlikely possibility that their leadership said let’s forget Israel and concentrate on building a successful society of our own. Very few people would know what to do. Their entire culture has been constructed around blaming the other. Witness the pure insanity of yesterday’s incursion north of Gaza. According to Haaretz, Mahmoud Abbas has washed his hands of the whole affair and told the Hamas leadership they will have to deal with their own lunatics who have decided this was the time to kidnap an Israeli soldier (for the sake of what?). The Hamas leaders’ response, according to the same article, is to go into hiding, fearing for their lives (they should). What the Palestinians need more than anything is an influx of about 100,000 psychotherapists. And they better be good ones. [Maybe that's something Europe could donate.-ed. I don't think they could spare them.]

Arab self pity is the norm. However, the Palestinian welfare state mentality has exacerbated an already bad situation. This may be the number one reason behind their craziness. Reading Edward Banfieldís 1970 seminal classic, The Unheavenly City; the Nature and Future of Our Urban Crisis, is highly recommended. Also, Martha Gellhornís 1961 insightful article ìThe Arabs of Palestine (cited by Neo-neocon).î

“peace would give them a nervous breakdown”…Ralph Peters has usefully distinguished between “practical terrorism” and “apocalyptic terrorism”…in the first category are those who engage in terrorism for a specific political purpose, and once that purpose is achieved they are happy to do something else. In the second category are those who engage in terrorism because destruction and killing provide the meaning in their lives.

Although Palestinian terrorism may once have contained elements of the first category, it is now solidly in the second.

Thought experiment: all the Jews in Israel decide to move to Denmark and Arizona. Can anyone seriously believe that today’s terrorists would settle down and become farmers/teachers/civil engineers?

If they did, I’d keep my powder dry. Bin Laden: civil engineer. Yassir Arafat: civil engineer. George Habash: civil engineer.

Psychotherapists, are you sure? The psychotherapists will tell you that there’s nothing wrong with you, you are an innocent victim, the root causes are your parents, your ancestors, the authority figures. In the Palestinians’ case, these culprits are long gone colonial imperialists, the current Israelis, and the Great Satan. In other words, there’s nothing wrong with the Palestinians, the bad guys are the Israelis, the Palestinians’ reactions are perfectly understandable.

Acutally, ic, not all psychotherapists will say that – only the bad ones. For some good psychotherapists, see Neo-neocon, ShrinkWrapped, Dr. Santy – all bloggers too.

I think it is specifically the “apocalyptic” nature of Palestinian terrorism that makes their cause appealing to so many Western intellectuals. If they were interested only in getting sovereignty over some land and running a normal democratic state, I think the professors would drop them like a hot rock.

Well, that’s what the “progressives” want to progress to, death.

Being Scotch, I follow the money. In the case of the Palestinians, it is UN/EU/USA welfare money that funds those people. This is my core reasons for doing away with the UN.

Welfare kills a society more comprehensively & profoundly than does a gatling gun. Truly. In only one generation, the local native population is dying of diabetes, fetal alchohol syndrome, drug addiction (including heroin!!!), child abuse and internecine violence. However, plenty of professionals/caring folk have made a very good living off of this destruction, so it continues unabated. The first do-gooders were of course the well meaning ‘residential schools’, and now there are layers and layers of social workers, all trying to ’solve’ the ‘problem’. The local natives have the same attitude to Life as has the Arabs: it is all Whitey’s fault that they are in such a terrible state. If only we would all go away, then they could ‘take back’ the towns/cities/nice homes that are rightfully theirs.

Putting up that Wall is such a good idea, by the way: now they are mostly killing each other, which is a good thing.

According to Ed over at Captains Quarters the Palestinians are claiming they have WMD. And they are not saying they are the kind Harman has under her sink either:

The Fatah terrorist faction has claimed the capability of chemical and biological weapons and has threatened Israel with a WMD attack, according to the Jerusalem Post. Leaflets distributed in the Gaza Strip state that the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade has spent the last three years developing the capabilty, the start of which seems oddly coincidental to the fall of Saddam Hussein (via Reliapundit):

The Aksa Martyrs’ Brigades group announced on Sunday that it its members have succeeded in manufacturing chemical and biological weapons to be used against Israel.

In a leaflet distributed in the Gaza Strip, the group, which belongs to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party, said the weapons were the result of an effort that has lasted for three years.

The statment was a response to an Israeli Security Cabinet decision to give the IDF the green light to prepare all the forces necessary for a military operation against Gaza terror cells. As of 9:00 p.m. large amounts of Golani and Givati Brigade infantry troops were amassing on the Israeli side of the Gaza security fence.

According to the statement, the first of its kind, the group managed to manufacture and develop at least 20 different types of biological and chemical weapons.

The group said its members would not hesitate to add the new weapons to long-range rockets that are being fired at Israeli communities almost every day. It also threatened to use the weapons against IDF soldiers if Israel carried out its threats to invade the Gaza Strip.

“Can anyone seriously believe that today’s terrorists would settle down and become farmers/teachers/civil engineers?”

Absolutely not. They have become similar to rabid dogs. There is no turning back. They are lost souls who must be either jailed or killed. ìNegotiatingî with them is entirely worthless. Their goals are not of this world. No, only death and destruction will satisfy their existential cravings.

Jun 25, 2006 - 3:37 pm 11. Sandy P:

So, al aksa has chemical weapons, eh?

Been working on them for 3 years, eh?

What lab and where’d they get the material?

Jun 25, 2006 - 4:35 pm 12. Roger:

The use of chemical weapons by Al Aksa would be a suicidal act beyond comprehension.

Roger,
Almost every thing you said would be considered deeply racist and biggoted if “African” or “Israeli” were substituted for “Palestinian”.
It is possible to defend Israel’s right to a safe existence without characterizing the Palestinian people as some inferior race.

mikem

While your point may have a modicum of validity, it is, for me, becoming much less of a concern. Reality stares.

Jun 25, 2006 - 7:05 pm 15. TomTom:

Mikem’s insight is staggering; brilliant, I tell you.
What a pinhead. In mikem’s world a totally spurious charge of racism trumps everything, and prevents his brain gears from engaging.

Roger can defend himself. However, I suspect that you might also be insulting me. Race has got nothing to do with anything. Wasn’t Germany during the Hitler years dysfunctional? Also, how about the cracker culture of Scotland and the American South? Have you ever read Thomas Sowellís Black Rednecks and White Liberals?

Todayís Palestinians are more often than not crazier than jay birds. A large number of these people even celebrate the death of their suicide bomber children. Isnít that nutty? But thank you for speaking out. I am been saying for ages, in regards to public opinion, the Israelis would be far better off if their hostile neighbors possessed blue eyes and blond hair.

Jun 25, 2006 - 7:18 pm 17. Ric Locke:

I am just before abandoning the attitude I considered an advance in the Seventies.

It is now established, by experiment, that there is no possible “dumbing down” of education that will not leave disadvantaged minorities achieving less than racist oppressors do.

It is now thoroughly established that all the good insults — “fascist”, “homophobe”, “hater”, you know the list — have been entirely debased, emptied of all meaning other than “disagrees with a Leftist”. Vide mikem, supra.

I therefore am beginning to believe that I should take up the banner of my honored, white redneck cracker ancestors and relatives. Yah, I’m a racist. And your point is?

Regards,
Ric

Using the Palestinians as a cause celebre’ against the west is beginning to unravel. The self destruction going on in Gaza cannot be ignored by the Arab press and in fact you are not seeing the oil shieks funding the 145,000 unpaid Palestinien public employees.

Considering that they are turning on each other in a mass suicide, perhaps we should be sending them additional weapons.

Suicide is the most sincere form of self criticism.

Roger:
Of course the Arab/Muslim world is not rushing in to give aid to their Palestinian brothers. They have kept the palestinians in their private hell on purpose for decades so that their proxy war against Israel will have an unending supply of soldiers. The camps will stay that way forever until the palestinians wise up and make their peace with the State of Israel. The Arab world could have given money to Palestine, other then money for arms, and allowed palestinian immigration into their countries to ease the population burden in the Palestinian areas decades ago but they want the current status qou to stay the same to keep the pressure on. They don’t give a rats ass about the palestinians other then the fact that they make great cannon fodder and great propaganda tools.

Jun 26, 2006 - 4:06 pm 20. pst314:

“They don’t give a rats ass about the palestinians…”

Iraqi dissident Kanan Makiya explores this in his book “Cruelty and Silence: War, Tyranny, Uprising, and the Arab World”. Not just callousness and cruelty toward Palestinians but similar behavior toward by most Arabs toward Arabs of other nations.
