It is a hard call to make but I think Israel is playing this out (not that it's a game, of course) very cleverly...taking strong action but still avoiding "innocent" bloodshed. As usual, the world is watching closely, but this time (for the first time in a long time) the condemnation of Israel's actions and pleas for restraint are words only (from Eurabia, to appease their own Muslim mobs, and from the U.S. in a pointless attempt to preserve the last vestiges of a reputation as an honest broker in the eyes of the Eurabians and Muslims the world over).

One thing, in my mind, however, is clear. Assuming he is alive (and the PALs better pray to Allah that he is), the captive soldier's chances for survival are much improved from the beginning of this week. And the minute a non-Hamas Palestinian is killed by IDF fire, thos chances will nosedive again. And if the main goal of this is to free the soldier alive, I can't think of a better strategy than what they are doing now.

Herer's an idea for discussion: Israel should agree to free those already scheduled to be released, then after Shalit is released, reneg on the deal.

ìI suppose this is a terrible thing to admit, but I think the Israelis would be doing us all a favor if they would just carpet bomb the entire Gaza strip.î

Israel must not murder civilians. Still, there is no reason why it should should not bomb the hell out of any area directly valuable to the terrorists. It is justified to essentially destroy whatís left of the Palestinian economy. After all, it was the citizens themselves who voted these thugs into power.

I suppose this is a terrible thing to admit, but I think the Israelis would be doing us all a favor if they would just carpet bomb the entire Gaza strip.

History is on my side, too. In any war, it is absolutely necessary for one side to win and the other to lose. The great lesson is Europe, in WWI: Germany was the only Euro country that was not attacked by a foreign army. Sure, people starved. However, because they did not "lose", they thought they HAD NOT LOST, not really, it was all a very puzzling plot by capitalist joooos.

All the leaders in WWII had fought in WWI. And the Allies knew (if they didn't outright say it) that it was necessary for each and every German person to know that they had LOST the war. Thus the carpet bombing and the mountains of rubble in Berlin, and all the starvation.

Hamas has never really lost. Money flows through their bank accounts, they get to fly first class from capital to capital, they can afford computers and nice clothes, they are not starving, they can blame the JOOOOSSSS for the fact that they are not Happy. Truly. If they have a family member who blows up themselves along with The Great Satan, then they are HEROES in the neighbourhood, and they receive $$$. If they travel to any of the Euro capitals, they are seen as combo heroes and victims. What is not to like??

The reality is that they act exactly like Al Capone and the other Mafia dons, only with a ton more $$$. And just like the 1930s penny ante bad guys (Dillinger, etc) these thugs receive fawning stories by the Media.

So, this will not end until they LOSE. And I am thinking of post war Berlin/ Dresden/ when I say this.
But we won't. I am thinking of advising my grandchildren to become Muslim. It will be a better situation, tax wise at least.

By all accounts, Gaza is a hell-hole. Of course the Arab states in the region, who have lots of empty space for new inhabitants don't want them either. Better to keep the Palestians at the door of Israel to destabilize the Jewish state.

LemonDrop

Not that I know. But, it was the civilian who was kidnapped, that was murdered shortly after his abduction. The health of the IDF soldier is unknown at this time. As a matter of fact, that is one of the bargaining points of hamas, to learn of his state/health, the Israel's must do/give up something. They are barbarian's. Worse than actually.
