We’re all hoping for moderate Islam…

… but most of us are having difficulty finding it – except for the Wilson Quarterly , which features an essay called “Europe’s Mosque Hysteria” by Martin Walker (editor of United Press Iinternational, no less). Roger Kimball, writing with distinction, as always, at Armavirumque, rejects Walker’s optimistic view of “the rich variety of Muslim immigration.” Worth your time.

Mr. Kimball’s inclusion of Steyn is a treasure; Steyn cuts to the bone. Melanie Phillips “Londonstan” points out the danger that liberalism has wrought; it treats reality as they would like it and not as it has always been. We have the same problem here, it has taken 5 years for our President to even say “Islamic Fascist” and most of our elected officials still can’t get their lips around such an odious word. We have “religious” horrors walking amongst us and we still can’t close the immigration door because of Political Correctness. The howl will go to heaven when Boston or Seattle disappears in an Islamic flash of light and then the real war will start in earnest.

I guess whether to call someone a ‘moderate’ Muslim is partly a matter of perspective. However, the really big, long-term problem is that perhaps 70% or more of Muslims throughout the world really do support terrorists. The fact that the vast majority do not themselves perform any terrorist acts is immaterial: there is community support for terrorists.

In some ways this problem is similar to the problem that existed in the American South during Jim Crow times. The KKK, which was always composed of a very small fraction of the southern population, nonetheless existed for nearly a hundred years and was in actuality a terrorist organization, though its tactics did not involve suicide bombers. It was unheard of in the South for members of the KKK to actually be prosecuted for their actions, despite the fact the local authorities had a very good idea of who they were and what they did. Ultimately, the KKK was stopped by an outside force (the U. S. government), not by locals.

Muslim terrorism will continue to be a huge problem as long as Westerners tolerate imams preaching hatred and inciting people to commit heinous acts. There isn’t very much that we can do about such folks in the Middle East (some might dispute this assertion, I know), but we will have to deal with them in western countries if we wish to halt so-called home-grown terrorism. We did it before with the KKK, but we were only successful after the FBI got serious about the problem.

Lina, a college student from Jordan, has just returned from a trip to Muenster, Germany. While there at a journalism conference, she attended a “Stop the War” rally in the ancient, cobble-stoned downtown area.

Observations on a Demonstration in Germany.

Also check out her Flickr photographs, where you’ll find someone holding up a large picture of Nasrallah and others of the marchers with the beautiful Lambertkirche in the background. You’ll also find the terminal hippie and clueless communist too — these types are ubiquitous.

Lina is representative, I believe, of those Arabs who are attempting to see through the hypocrisy as much as they are able.

Amazing how the Left never said that we needed to look at the “root causes” for the KKK’s “rage,” or to focus on ameliorating the concerns of the “Southern street.”

The West’s self deception continues. Bruce Bawer has a recent and good book on European self deception and its accommodation of Islamofascism.

So when will we actually awaken? Next time.

The President and the highly astute Mike Chertoff have set down the perimeters needed.

One only has to read today about this foolish aging Jimmy Carter appointed Federal judge in Detroit who shot down the surveillance regime established by the administration to understand that it is a long and arduous task of small wars and hand to hand combat in the political and legal arenas.

Considering what I am reading above, I think we need a more proactive approach

[Proposed]DECLARATION OF WAR WITH RADICAL ISLAM

Have you noticed how Islam type folk come all over sensitive? Over and over, I read about how someone has “frowned” or even “stared” at our unhappy Religion of Peace brethren, who I guess rush off to report same insult to CAIR.

Soon, we in Canada will find our various Human Rights Commissions are dragging in frowners and star-ers, to be soundly slapped around for ‘racism.’

And I still say that all these multi-culturists receive their support from the citizenry because that “rich variety” really means interesting restaurants. Cut out ‘multiculturalism’ and gosh, our restaurants will be so DULL.

“We’re all hoping for moderate Islam…”

Actually, no, many of us think that a “moderate Islam” is no better than a “moderate Shari’a.”

“Moderate” Muslims are little help and don’t do much to oppose terrorists. Often they are very bigoted about religion and highly anti-semitic.

The only ones who are any help are REFORMIST Muslims — Muslims who want to reform Islam and bring into, oh, at least the 19th Century. And civilization doesn’t help the reformers by mincing words.

An islamofascist is any Muslim who doesn’t hate Shari’a like poison.

Old joke: an Islamic moderate is a militant with an empty clip.
