Polling the Poll

The Pajamas Media Presidential Straw Poll appears to be gaining some traction (touch digital wood – whatever that is). As of this writing 191 websites (blogs and others) have registered as polling places and 135 are already functioning with the widget in place. If you have a site and want to join us, the process is pretty simple – go here.

The question is what will emerge from all this? All polls are suspect and Internet polls, with some justification, among the most suspect. But if… and this is a very big if… we can distribute our widget to enough sites/polling places, we could start to have more statistical viability. We could also become a kind of Early Warning System for other polls, because Internet readers are axiomatically early adopters of gadgets and ideas. The difficulties many are reporting with the McCain campaign were tracked early in first week of the PJ poll and have continued to the present.

When will Pajamas Media be able to handle Apple Safari votes. I am forced to cast a ballot via a Bill Gates’ PC at work. How can I live with the shame? God has sent people to hell for doing far less than that.

Interesting question, David, because I am typing this on a MacBook (no, not yet in my pajamas, though it is 9:37PM) and I am able to use the poll via Safari. We continue to perfect the poll. If you keep having problems, write me and I will direct you to our tech folks.

Now, now boys, let’s not bash Bill Gates. Think of all the jobs he provides. Tank Microsoft, you’ll tank the economy. And Gates *IS* giving away his fortune.

Sorry, didn’t mean to step on toes.

Now where were we? *blush*

I noted that amongst Republican candidates Ron Paul was polling respectable numbers on the Pajamas Media poll, but has now vanished as as candidate on the PM ballot. I suppose that it because he is polling at less than 1 per cent on Gallup polls. I have not seen Mr. Paul’s candidacy mentioned at all in major news outlets, which doesn’t mean it hasn’t been, of course, but my observation is that the MSM treats libertarians as pariahs. After all, Tom Tancredo has had several MSM stories written about him, though he is hardly a well-known fellow.

Anyway, I think that PM would do everyone a service by putting all the candidates back on the ballot.
