Must be a slow news day because Drudge is making a big deal (“The Big Snub”) over Time Magazine leaving George Bush off its list of 100 most influential.
Now it’s obvious Bush – though still commander-in-chief of the world’s most powerful military – doesn’t quite have the clout he had a few years ago, but Time…? Who cares what Time Magazine thinks? Does actually anybody read it anymore? Even at the dentist I prefer the guilty pleasure of People. Time is just dead weight. I don’t have a clue what they’re doing or writing unless I read about it on the Drudge Report – and even then I don’t pay much attention. Time Magazine is a weekly news magazine – about as relevant to our lives as a triceratops.

Esbiem:how far its influence has fallen. “Hardball” Matthews still cares about the weeekly news mags, Newsweek and Time, as Howard Fineman and Jim Carney are about the only journalists who appear on his show. Jonathan Alter and Andrew Sullivan still write but even they have no clout beyond the GW Bridge and the Castro District (SFC) for Sullivan. Time exists only in its covers; there is little between the front and back pages.
To paraphrase Mic Jager and the rest of the members of Club Liberal, “Time, is on my side.”

This says something about Time magazine. It’s at the maturity level of a fourth grader. “I had a birthday party and you weren’t invited.”
I wonder if the writer actually called Drudge or CNN to let them know they were leaving Bush off the list. It wouldn’t have the intended effect if nobody noticed. Few would notice. Fewer would care.

May 3, 2007 - 3:16 pm 8. john.cunningham:Roger hits it correctly. Before the web, I used to subscribe to a dozen or so news/political magazines. Now, I only get 2 paper mags–Backpacker and Canoe/Kayak, and those only because I got pressured by my roommate’s kid to sign up for his school drive.
