Calling Robin Wright

I know I’ve been picking on Robin Wright lately, but she represents a kind of reactionary liberalism that I find particularly prevalent in our time. So I have a question for her, since she is so worried about the US acting unilaterally by branding the Iranian Revolutionary guard as a terror organization. What does she think of today’s statement by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who, as she must know, is a child of those same guards and now virtually their leader (under Khamenei):

“The Zionist regime is the standard bearer of invasion, occupation and Satan,” he said, predicting Israel’s eventual demise.

So, Ms. Wright, let’s have an answer. Is Ahmadinejad telling the truth as he sees it when he says Israel is the “standard bearer of Satan” or is this something else? If it is something else, I would like you to specify what it is and prove it. Because from every indication we have had, that is precisely what he and other leaders of that regime – and the Revolutionary Guard themselves – believe. If that doesn’t sound like the basis for a terror organization, I don’t know what does.

Oh, he doesn’t really mean all that. He just wants Czechoslovakia. Oops, I mean Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, back in the USSR….

Wright is another example of reflexive anti-Americanism. The threatening, anti-American “other” is privileged and apologized for, if that force is under real threat the anti-American attacks the threat. Her thought processes are collateral mental damage of the Cold War, with Hamas, Hezb, France, whomever savored as the logical, unselfish other.

It is always America’s fault. The Islamic nihilists would supposedly be sweet and loving were it not for our belligerent behavior. George W. Bush and the Zionists need to cease being so nasty.

Left-wingers are often existentially and psychologically incapable of combating totalitarians. This is especially true when the majority of our sworn enemies do not possess blue eyes and blond hair.

If we succeed in preventing Iran from getting the bomb, we will look back on Iraq as having been the catalyst.

The reasons are obvious. Having troops in Iraq and Afghanistan focuses our sizable but relatively short attention span in the region with the do diligence absent war. So much so that the speculation on Russia is that they are feeling a bit left out. Oooaaah

All the information in the public realm (the CIA leaking itself an indictment) says our intelligence services are not yet up to the task in Iran. Because we are in Iraq and Afghanistan we are finding out things about Iran we would not have known otherwise.

I think the Robin Wrights in the beltway may be under the impression we could just have a cold war with the Islamist and their bomb.

Mamud loves his children as much as…. What planet is Robin Wright living on?

I was actually surprised to see that Daniel Pipes gave her a pretty good on her book about the Khomeini decade. He was rather less generous of her work on a later book. (Though in the latter case he still had kind words for her.)

I agree with you, though, that nowadays she seems to be partial to appeasement.

Poetry.
I wish someone would put this to her exactly as Mr. Simon wrote it.
In person.
On camera.
