Dan’s future earning potential, not to mention his good name and historical legacy, were all shipwrecked by RatherGate. It’s his own fault, but it’s certainly understandable that he’ll spend the rest of his career trying to defend the story. Look at Mary Mapes– she’s not just still defending the documents, she’s even making money off the defense. In our polarized world, both these defenses will be taken at face value — evidence notwithstanding — by a big chunk of the electorate. I don’t really blame him for keeping at it– I blame the long line of people who (quietly or publicly) believe him despite all the evidence to the contrary.

And if you don’t believe that plenty of people buy it hook, line and sinker, then you should go look up Mary Mapes’s book in Amazon and check out the reviews– both editorial and user.

I’m reading Alan Greenspan’s book right now, and he gives a very fair and balanced view of each president he’s worked with– the good and the bad. I’m reminded of how the moderate Republicans turned on Nixon when it became obvious that he was up to no good. They could have stuck with him and turned things even more ugly than they were. But they eventually realized that Nixon was guilty and put the country above their party.

The Left never had its Nixon Moment. They supported Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy through a raft of scandals. They stuck with Rather, they’re sticking with the New Republic. They’ll even excuse and apologize for their pet dictators abroad.

We’ll see what happens with this lawsuit of his. For Dan Rather, the best outcome would be for it to be thrown out of court so he could always claim political interference. Unless he grandstands pathetically, I’m assuming he doesn’t want it to go to trial. Like Charlie, I’d be fascinated to see it go into discovery.

Ejecting Iraq out of Kuwait – Part I was by all accounts unimaginably successful.
The wrong lesson of that success was undestandably but mistakenly translated into Iraq the Invasion – Part II.

The lesson Hollywood has applied to sequels is spend more money and they will come.

In Iraq Part II the administration did the opposite. They tried to do it on the cheap. That’s the extent of the “mistake” and nothing more. Katie knows nothing about producing.
Part II was going to get made ironically enough because the first was so successfull.

Dan is just bitter. He tried to rig casting, got caught and got fired. When they say ‘you will never work in this town again’ they meant it.

The MSM power to anoint its celebrities to comment on the major issues of the day astonishes; Sean Penn and Katie Couric on Iraq, Keith OberFuehrer on the Bush presidency. To suggest that Katie’s Iraq comments are newsworthy is laughable. Keith was on a sports program the other night offering his opinion on this game or that game, yuking it up. I thought now he is in his rightful place; jock straps. He really is perceptive when it comes to comes to jocks straps.

Based on current trends casualties in September will be the lowest since June 2006. Progress is now undeniable. Al Qaeda is being annihilated. It’s reputation is in the toilet.

It won’t take 50 years to judge the results of GWB’s foreign policy. He liberated 2 Muslim countries and destroyed America’s main foreign enemy at a cost of less than 5,000 American lives. Unbelievable.

Katie channels uncle Walter, eh? Sorry, Katie, you blew it by going over to Iraq and reporting that all was not lost. No one is going to say, “Oh my God, we lost Katie Couric, so we’ve lost America!” Ain’t gonna happen.

Good gracious, if somehow they could get Joe Wilson and Sandy Berger to testify in a Dan Rather lawsuit too, that would be peachy. But might there be a mystery witness? What about Kenneth? I wonder if the judge would allow into evidence the results of a psychiatric evaluation of Dan.
