Watched or Ejected – Another one word movie review

La Vie En Rose – Watched (actually I would have Ejected but I love Piaf’s music… the movie was interminable… but, hey, it’s Thanksgiving and it aided digestion.)

As you will recall, these are supposed to be one word movie reviews – watched or ejected – to indicate what I did with my Academy DVDs. But, as you can see, I haven’t been able to live up to my goal. I will try harder.

1. Cinabar:

I, too, watched Le Vie en Rose early this week. My impression was that it was tedious but tolerable only because of the great Edit Piaf songs and the brilliant acting of Marion Cotillard. The overused jumping from present to past and back became annoying.

After watching innumerable French films it seems they all merge together. Wonderful cinematography interspersed with dense and vacuous dialog masquerading as intellectual profundity.

Well said, Cinabar. Completely agree with all of the above. Of course the French films of yesteryear were toute autre chose. Can you imagine the life of Piaf in the hands of a Marcel Carné? I would line up for that.

Happy belated birthday, Roger…..may you be watched, not ejected for many reruns to come!
