Misguided disgust. Why don't you leave the government mandate part out of technology innovation (oxymoron, if there is ever one)?

How about Bush's energy policy of having 20% from renewable resources? We HAVE TO have cash crops converting to make ethanol, wind and hydro-driven turbines converting to electricity, etc. How do all those work so well now?

People like to pretend they are green or in favor of green, but they don't have the guts to demand implementation of the real solutions. (Most disgusting thing is "As long as it is not in my neck of the woods, I am all for it". IT being new and renewal of the nuclear power plants, and drilling.)

As for the Annapolis conference, another idiotic label on GWB hardly matters. He is determined to build his legacy on the Iraqi outcome, therefore, if Saudis demanded another photo-ops at the ìpeaceî process before they will touch the Iraq pole, what does it cost Bush?

Saudi hands are just in too many official and unofficial American pockets for anything to change.

I'm with you on the 'vomiting' part, Roger.

And I am very much afraid that the longer we put off the inevitable - ie, a collision in the Middle East, $100 barrel oil and going up, ... well the worse it will be.

Our leaders believe that we cannot live with hardship.. and hardship it will be for a lot of people, as we move out of the Saudi nexus.

Okay, Roger, just for discussion, let's assume that the Saudis weren't involved, or even hadn't been invited. Neglecting the possibility that it might piss them off, and for various reasons of realpolitik we'd prefer they weren't, without the Saudis co-operation what could we expect to achieve? On the other hand, with their co-operation, including perhaps pulling in the purse strings, wouldn't we get some advantages? notwithstanding whether they're misogynist neanderthals, a judgment it'd be hard to dispute.

Come to think of it, wouldn't this be true even if we'd converted away from oil?
