The Democrats are trying to hold their fire on Mike “Glass Jaw” Huckabee since they think he is a sitting duck in the general election (could be right about that). Meanwhile, one of their “intelligent” operatives leaked it all to the DRUDGE REPORT!!!.
[Well, that takes care of that.-ed. What you said.]

1. Bob:Is there any Republican who will NOT be a sitting duck in the general election? Anybody who thinks the Republicans have a chance of electing one of their number president next November is crazier than Dr. Dean and Dr. Paul combined.
Dec 11, 2007 - 3:23 pm 2. Roger:Bob, you’re very smart not to sign your full name on that. As one who has voted twice in my life for Republicans, many times for Dems and even once or twice for third party candidates like the Peace & Fredom Party (knowing full well it was a protest vote) – all I can say is I don’t have a clue who will win this election. Anybody who does (and is right) is a lot brighter than I am.
Dec 11, 2007 - 4:31 pm 3. Tollhouse:This easily explains why EJ Dionne and the other liberal on Diana Reims show on NPR kept calling Huckabee the “true conservative” the other day.
Dec 11, 2007 - 5:48 pm 4. Mgmax:So we’ll have sunk from the New York vs. New York subway series to the Arkansas wrasslin’ match? Great.
Dec 11, 2007 - 6:26 pm 5. David Thomson:Mike Huckabee is a dangerous man. He is not in touch with reality and embraces an immature moralism. The growing pardon scandal is solid evidence that Huckabee should never come close to moving into the White House. I will vote for either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama if the former Arkansas governor somehow becomes the Republican nominee.
Dec 11, 2007 - 8:15 pm 6. Barrett:It seems as if the candidates for President have been getting worse on both sides with each Presidential cycle since I started voting.
I am not sold on Huckabee nor am I excited about any of the others. I am sure the Democrats want what they would perceive to be the easiest person to beat get the Republican nomination. The press really isn’t picking on Huckabee too much either. Funny how that is and that there is no bias.
But Hillary and Obama simply scare me from a policy perspective. Government solutions for everything and a spending plan for everyone. More spending, higher taxes, lower quality services via government sponsored monopolies is not the ticket. Create dependency and consolidate power is their motivation.
The moronic Repblican party has forgotten fiscal responsibility, less regulation, smaller government, pro-business (and in particular pro-small business) policies, lower taxes, the rule of law, personal freedom and personal responsibility.
How can you have a $2.9 trillion budget and say you have a revenue problem? It is absurd on the face of it.
And now that bottom 60% of all taxpayers pay just 1% of income taxes, there are not enough people around to stop the insanity. The majority have their hands out.
We are becoming indentured servants without realizing it and without protest. Much of the world is choking on the costs of Socialism (why does no one go to Canada for healthcare) and the Democrats are rushing to embrace it.
I don’t want Hillary making decisions for me. Does anyone recall her arrogant “I know what is best for you” attitude when she solved healthcare for us in the Clinton I administration. Do you think she has changed? No way. She just lies better now. Obama is just as bad.
I guess I am just an out of touch person with a classical libertarian view of government. I am reading the Federalist Papers that were written to make the case for Constitution. This I can say with conviction, the framers are spinning in their graves.
Maybe the death of America as envisioned by the framers of the US Constitution is at hand.
I apologize for being pessimistic.
Okay, now I am depressed and need to go to bed. I’ll check back again tomorrow.
Dec 11, 2007 - 9:48 pm 7. heather:It is difficult to get Jesus Christ to run for President of the US of A. So, I guess you’ll have to settle for mere human beings.
And among those humans, Giuliani, Romney and Thompson would be quite adequate as President. Unfortunately, McCain (given his history with the McCain Feingold foolishiness, etc.) is just not very bright when it comes to solving problems.
As the Dems, I would be very unhappy to see Hillary as President (imagine being Oliver Twist in an orphanage run by that woman.) However, I assume that Obama would be adequate also. OK, not as mature as the Republican examples, and his ears stick out, but other than that I would not be too depressed to see him become President. (Once, I heard him talking about how taxes should be raised, and he commented that his father had ‘enough’ money… and every since, I’ve thought he was a jerk. But the Office of the Presidency seems to make most guys grow up despite themselves.)
Up in Canada, we have a very adequate leader in Stephen Harper. He is strengthening our military, and establishing a better presence in the Arctic, just as if he thinks Canada is a seriously adult nation!!!
Dec 11, 2007 - 11:54 pm 8. Wellspring:Huckabee really, really scares me. I didn’t bite my tongue on social policy for the past 15 years so that I could accept an evangelical Dennis Kucinich as my nominee. My GOP credentials are air-tight and rock solid– and yet there are democrats running who I’d support before I voted for Mike Huckabee.
No wonder the democrats are holding their fire. They have a good shot this election cycle, and a crappy GOP nominee would seal the deal.
Dec 12, 2007 - 4:28 am 9. David Thomson:“Huckabee really, really scares me.”
Mike Huckabee should downright terrify you. He may even be psychiatrically unhinged. His comments and behavior are often bizarre to say the least. One should pay attention to his weird justification for pardoning the murderer. That incident alone should be enough to stop his campaign dead in its track. Ron Paul is the other whack job. The less than perfect Rudy Giuliani is still my number one choice. He is the best man for the job especially when it comes to defending our country from its enemies.
Dec 12, 2007 - 6:13 am 10. Bob:Roger responded to my comment by saying: “[A]ll I can say is I don’t have a clue who will win this election. Anybody who does (and is right) is a lot brighter than I am.”
Roger, I certainly don’t pretend to be brighter than you; I don’t have a clue who will win this election either. But the mood of the country, and the Republican hopefuls, make it clear that whoever wins won’t be a Republican.
