Explosion in Time Square - Back to the future

As it happens I’m headed to New York from DC in an hour where an explosion occurred doing minor damage to a Times Square recruiting office. I will be arriving in Penn Station, of course, but it will be interesting to see if there is any heightened security. Well, scratch that. Maybe it won’t be that interesting - just inconvenient. See Annie Jacobsen’s piece on Pajamas this morning. This security business isn’t easy. Flying as much as I do I tend to get riled at the long lines. But is there a better way? Again, not easy.

1. Lightnin' Hopkins:

This one appears to be unrelated to Islamic extremists - given the current info available. Still, it is disturbing. A small segment of anti-war “protesters” seem to think that its okay to blow sh*t up to make their point. It doesn’t seem to matter to them whether anyone gets hurt - same with the “eco-terrorist” twits that light housing developments and car dealerships on fire.

You’re right, Roger. Security isn’t easy (as the Israelis - who are more practiced at it than we are - were reminded once again today). We should be grateful for the people who have foiled many plots and protected us from harm for the last seven years - however imperfect, they have done their jobs well. It’s unfair that, like referees, they are only noticed when they miss one.

What a way to live. Must we wait for another major attack for the 50% of Americans in denial to join the fight? That is a rhetorical question born of frustration; Even though for some the fire will have to be directly outside their door before they admit the fight exists at all.
