Mickey Kaus says that Obama’s good numbers in a North Carolina poll indicate that his March 18th speech had the “Wright stuff.” Mebbe so… at least in so far as the primaries are concerned. But the Rasmussen Daily Tracking Poll for the general election tells a different story. McCain’s margin over Obama has been widening consistently since mid-March when the Wright story broke wide. March 18th had no discernible impact on this trend. My guess is that after Obama wins the nomination he’s going to be looking frantically for a big time Sister Souljah moment… Otherwise he’s in deep trouble.
This isn’t going to help either. Or this.
Of course, there are tedious blowhards like this that could still help Obama. [Maybe LeBoutillier is just trying to attract attention.-ed. Well, he got a link from me. He's also semi-literate. He swallowed the MSM line that Iran wasn't training Al Qaeda terrorists. He probably doesn't even read his own website.]

1. TerryeL:I think that in terms of states like North Carolina, you have to look at demographics. On the other hand there is Pennsylvania where Clinton leads by about 20.
I think Wright hurt Obama. I think McPeak could hurt him too if the press did not ignore him.
I saw an interesting study from Tarrance that showed more support for Bush than is generally heard about. In truth it made something else evident, Americans are not as liberal as Obama.
For instance, once you get past the usual low approval ratings you find that 56% of likely voters approve of the President personally and consider him a person of moral character and integrity.
Job performance is not the same thing as moral character.
However, it is also true that 76% approve of his AIDS policy and work with Africa. 72% approve of his overall Mideast policy. 70% approve of his stand on the Protect America Act. 65% approve of his efforts to stop tax increases. 64% approved of the stimulus package. 63% supported the drug prescription plan. 52% approved of the surge. 70% approved of his Supreme Court Justice picks…and the list goes on.
The Tarrance people theorize with that with support for many initiatives and respect for him personally the President might be able to bring up his approval ratings if the economy improves and Iraq continues to improve.
In any event I think this might help explain why Obama is in a free fall up against McCain. Americans are just not ready for someone whose pastor rants God Damn America! And they are not ready for socialism either. They just want more competence.
Mar 26, 2008 - 3:52 am 2. David Thomson:John LeBoutillier inadvertently helps John McCain. He is a member of the far right and only reminds independents that the Arizona senator is something of a center rightist. This is McCain’s election to lose not necessarily because the majority of voters believe he is so wonderful. No, they are simply glad that he is neither “Barry” Obama nor Hilary Clinton. McCain is the lesser of evils—and will likely be in office for only one term.
Senator Clinton’s lies concerning her Bosnia trip was the last straw. Even people previously fond of her now realize the extent of her deceitfulness. She can no longer rely on the scam job claiming that only “haters” are against her. The U-Tube video says it all—and it is ridiculously easy to find on the Internet:

Mar 26, 2008 - 4:52 am 3. Lem:With picks like McPeak, Jeremiah Wright and Samantha Powers you could argue Obama lacks the kind of judgment a president must have.
However, I can’t recall any major election when someone didn’t get the nomination or didn’t win because of questionable associations.
Dukakis didn’t loose because of Kitty’s depression. Mondale didn’t loose because Ferraro’s husband mob ties. Gore didn’t loose because of Bill Clinton.
If Hillary is going to make it she is going to need a bigger boat. (mixing my metaphors, again) Jeremiah is proving to be a small fish.
Mar 26, 2008 - 5:45 am 4. Lem:If Mac has anything on Obama he should give it to the Clintons. Now before it’s too late.
Mar 26, 2008 - 7:20 am 5. TedM:We used to call Reagan the “teflon
Mar 26, 2008 - 7:24 am 6. Lem:President”. Obama is the “teflon candidate”
No matter what comes out about him, his supporters ignore it. I have heard people
saying that “he has evolved since then”.
Whatever comes up from his past is ignored.
The need to believe in him as a savior is so
strong among the soft left that it is wishful
thinking to imagine that his support will fade.
His real weakness is with the “silent majority”
of blue collar Democrats. They will see him as
a reflection of Rev Wright and the pro Palestinians he had been associated with.
The bitterness in the Democratic primary fight
can only alienate the hardline Democrats on both sides. They will be inclined to stay home in November and not vote for the winner of the primary. How much this will affect the outcome in close states in November remains to be seen.
Desperate times calls for desperate measures; please bear w/me
What if Obama has cheated on his wife and Hillary can’t bring it up because of Bill’s history? Should Hillary give it to Mac?
Then there was the NYT story of Mac and the lobbyist ñ So Mac can’t bring it up either.
An ‘articulate, clean’ black man not cheating?
I got it!
Obama is gay (not that there is anything wrong with that) of course
Mar 26, 2008 - 7:34 am 7. Mgmax:LeBoutillier has had an ax to grind against McCain ever since LeBoutillier was in the P.O.W.-M.I.A. racket and McCain was the elading figure in a Senate investigation which determined there were no P.O.W.s still alive in Vietnam.
Mar 26, 2008 - 9:07 am 8. Lightnin' Hopkins:Obama’s cadre of kooks for advisors and associates continues to amaze. And people were afraid McCain might be the loose cannon! Barry’s bunch practically constitutes a Civil War re-enactment – complete with terms like “slavemaster” and “house n*#%@!”
One thing is certain: That convention is gonna be must-see TV…and funnier than ‘Seinfeld’ at that.
Mar 26, 2008 - 9:50 am 9. Mikey:The current reverend of Sen. obama’s church isn’t helping him either.
Mar 26, 2008 - 12:54 pm 10. Always right:Well, Michelle Obama is Obama’s first and foremost liability! however, he can’t divorce her now.
IMO, the First Lady status hits bottom if MO is the next one in line.
Unless, of course, Barry can bottle her up (ship her where the sun don’t shine) for the next few years.
Mar 26, 2008 - 1:00 pm 11. jedrury:If Hillary goes out, a new dynamic will hit this race and the voting public will reshuffle the cards. So much focus is spent on Hillary and Obama; McCain is an afterthought. The American voter does not do well chewing gum and walking at the same time. I think that what they will see is a guy with a great resume, aging, a tad angry but funny, a snappy attitude towards Times reporters, not prone to make mistakes and a media which is not too hard on him.
Across the table, they will see a man with no experience, who talked a good game when he was
Mar 26, 2008 - 1:19 pm 12. Lem:in the Illinois legislature (” I was against the war.”) and will come from a fractured party. Irrespective of the fracturing, the voter has too many subliminal suspicions and hand ups about the new kid on the block. It is called baggage.
Does anybody know what, when and who brought about the convenient retirement of Obama’s bombastic mullah… I mean pastor?
How does a 20 year pastor retire?
There has to be a huge story there.
Mar 26, 2008 - 1:26 pm 13. Lem:Jeremiah goes quietly, next thing you know he is the ambassador to Jamaica.
Mar 26, 2008 - 1:58 pm 14. Stace:I went to http://leboutillier.blogspot.com/, and I see that he’s posted a disgusting and fraudulent “email” about McCain from tbrnews.org. I looked further into tbrnews, and now I need to take a shower, with clorox. Dailykos, to their credit, has some diaries on the tbrnews guy.
Apparently he’s the far-right freak behind all kinds of crazy but persistent internet rumors, like the Whitehouse gay sex ring.
This election is an education for me. I read HuffPo regularly, so I’m well-versed in lefty craziness. I guess I’m naive, but I didn’t know the extent of the rightwing-nuttery still in existence. The McCain candidacy is bringing the roaches out into the light. If he’s crazy enough to post that “email”, then LeBoutillier is a frickin’ psycho, and so are some of the nuts at WND and some of the other more conservative sites.
Mar 26, 2008 - 6:31 pm 15. Stace:Here’s a nice link off of LeBoutillier’s blog that gives a fraudulent account of the USS Forrestal fire, and blames the “coverup” on guess which group? You only get one guess.
