I hope, though, that Amazon does not reflect the wider world, despite its claims to the contrary.
Or maybe I’m just bitter, since my own book (”Never Too Busy For You”) is 2,775,042 on Amazon’s list. This despite its uplifting message, eco-friendly print-on-demand distribution, and the lovely economy of prose that’s designed to save as many trees as possible (take that, JK Rowling!).
Sadly, it saves still more trees by being unbought by millions.

May 1, 2008 - 9:21 am 2. Sgt. Mom:Oh, Scott, I feel the pain – the trouble with being an unknown writer is that you can write like a genius and hardly anyone will know – but once you’re well known (or notorious) anything you care to scribble will find a publisher!
Here, have a kleenex. My own book “To Truckee’s Trail” (a gripping narrative of an unknown wagon train party – which portrays our pioneer ancestors as fundamentally decent, competant and brave human beings) today languishes at 424,901, although it has bounced as high as 62,000. Which means that maybe two or three copies were sold.
Despite its also uplifting message and eco-friendly print-on-demand distribution, I still have about 199,800 copies to go before I can even think about purchasing the castle next door to Ms. Rowlings!
