Lionel Chetwynd and I feature discussion of Woody Allen and his tired career and tired new film Vicki Cristina Barcelona for our second Poliwood venture on Pajamas TV.  Have a look- it’s free, without subscription.

Lionel and I also talk about our mutual friend – Richard Dreyfuss.  We both wrote movies for him and have known Richard for a loooong time.  Dreyfuss is not a typical, kneejerk H’wood liberal a la Robbins-Sarandon.  He can surprise with his opinions and he recently had some mean things to say about Oliver Stone’s W. while appearing on The View.  This is all the more surprising since Richard plays Dick Cheney in the film.  You usually don’t badmouth movies you acted in.  He must have really hated it.  He compared Oliver to Sean Hannity.  Enough said.

Anyway, suggestions for future Poliwood shows are more than welcome.  We have to do one a week!

Tonight, I drinking and passing out — candies to the kiddies. I wanna celebrate Roger amd Richard so here are the IMDB quotes from 1978’s The Big Fix (which kinda work today):

Moses Wine: Bakunin? Bakunin was a terrorist monster. You are not an authority on Bakunin just because you used to date every terrorist in Soviet Russia, that does not make you an authority.
Eppis: Do you know why being a revolutionary doesn’t work in this country? Being a revolutionary in America is like being a spoil sport at an orgy. All these goodies being passed around and you feel like a shit when you say no.

Suggestion for a future Poliwood: how about a discussion of David Thomson’s new (to the US) _Have you Seen….?_ It’s a marvelous compendium. It would be interesting to see where you and Lionel agree with his picks and where you don’t. Of course, he writes about 1,000 movies and you’d have to be selective, to say the least.

Topic?

How could cinemas make movie going an event, something you plan for, instead of something you do on he spur of the moment?

Saw Dreyfus on Mike Huckabee’s show yesterday. Was all set for the usual lefty Hollywood nonsense, but instead he impressed the hell out of me. He touched on many issues that have been on my mind for some time – civics, civility, history, American exceptionalism, sound bites versus deep thinking, etc. Gave me some hope for the future. This is the type of thing we need to hear much more about. I think the audience was stunned in silence. They wanted to be entertained as per the usual TV show format, but instead Richard forced them to THINK! OMG! ;)
