I don’t think Mike Royko or Ernie Pyle finished college. Since when does one need a degree in order to ask a good question or series of good questions?

(I have degrees in economics, history, and law, but they are not prerequisite to reporting observations or asking intelligent questions during a war.)

Hyphenated American, I’m glad to help. Joe seemed to be under the misconception that when one enters a higher tax bracket, all their income gets taxed at the higher rate (in reality, it’s only the top portion). He also seemed to not know the difference between gross income and net profits. Obama patiently tried to explain these concepts to him (I believe the conversation actually lasted close to fifteen minutes), so I would say that, yes, Obama definitely has a better grip on the way Schedule C type small businesses are taxed than Joe the Plumber. Please note, I’m not slamming Joe. I’m slamming the McCain camp for picking a guy that’s never run a small business and appeared to be woefully uninformed as their symbol of small business America. It was a cynical and ultimately dumb campaign move.

Joe is a really “stand up” kinda guy. With a talent behind the camera.
I hope this is the start of seeing him often in the media as a respected journalist and a “down to earth American”.
