I’m on my way (circuitously) home from my first CPAC. [I bet you never thought you'd be attending such an event.-ed. You bet. I also never thought I'd been sitting on a panel next to David Horowitz, addressing an audience of some 3500... tempus fugit, as they say... but it's been "fugiting" for some time.] Anyway, for most of CPAC I was functioning in my head honcho capacity at PJTV/Pajamas Media, so I didn’t get to see many of the events – other than Friday night Reagan banquet, which featured barely-edible sea bass, but good speeches by Gov. Mark Sanford and Stephen Balch.
But, as I said, my attention was focused on PJTV and I, biased though I may be, I have to give us high marks. Our second day program was particularly good, I think (brag?). You can see it here free. That’s the long version. Shorter segments are available at pjtv.com, including our new conservative version of The View called “Washington Tea Party. Don’t miss it. It features a whole lot of women you know (M. Malkin, Dr. Helen Smith, etc.) , one of whom is Jeri Thompson with her husband The Tennessean as a guest. Fun. Kellyanne Conway did a superb job as moderator. Please give us your feedback to this and other shows. We’re getting pretty serious about this Pajamas TV thing – and we have drastically reduced the subscription price to “recession levels.” ($5/mo. or $3/mo. student)

1. Steve:The new pricing is good. I just subscribed. I’d like to watch PJTV on my TV. Are there any plans to make it accessible via digital video players like Roku or Tivo?

Mar 1, 2009 - 12:29 pm 3. Pops in Vienna:Well Roger, maybe it’s me but I can’t say I am very impressed with the recent CPAC event. If it wasn’t for M. Malkin I wouldn’t have been able to view the Rush Limbaugh speech. Why on earth weren’t all of the speeches recorded and posted on the internet? In this day and age you’d think that would have been a very basic measure. How can we get our message out when the organizers aren’t taking advantage of technology like You Tube?
I heard Huckabee delivered a real stemwinder but could only find his 2008 speech to CPAC on the net. Not good.
Also, are these CPAC types going to repeat the 2008 mistake and nominate an unelectable candidate? I hear Romney came out on top in the straw poll.
I don’t have all the facts (thanks to CPACS failure to disseminate videos or transcripts)so I might be unfair. But I don’t see how this gathering has helped us in getting any further out of the deep woods.
Mar 1, 2009 - 12:54 pm 4. Promoguy:Pops makes an excellent point. Had the Holy One, whose name shall not be mentioned, spoken to a DimCrap meeting you can bet it would have been all over the internet so that the kiddies in college could have something to do other then drink. The message has to get out and the best way as Pops mentioned is over that thing call the YouTube.

Mar 2, 2009 - 6:31 am 8. Howard Veit:I’m sorry, but Rush Limbaugh with all his excitement and red meat is NOT a GOP candidate for anything and his speech just shows us how shallow the gene pool conservatism really is. A bunch of tired old white people without an idea of how to get the country moving, to repair our roads and bridges, to FIX THE AIRLINES, and like it or not make the medical care system available to all. And finding a person of color is nearly impossible.
Mar 2, 2009 - 8:09 am 9. chad:Howard,
A few points. First, it is the Conservative Political Action Committee not the GOP national convention. Second, Airlines are a private business maybe they should fix themselves. Third, If you can’t find a person of color in the GOP or the Conservative movement you aren’t looking very hard.

Howard, you need to get that thing fixed. Viagra might help.

Finding a GOP person of color impossible?

Clarence Thomas

Colin Powell (squishy, I admit)
I could go on, but you get the idea. There are plenty of GOP people of color, so to speak. Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Currently the GOP is being run by a “person of color”.
The “tired old white people” who RUN a party are actually Democrats. In case you haven’t noticed, President Obama isn’t actually running anything other than a continuous campaign. He’s leaving the heavy lifting to other members of his party.
Also, it isn’t up to the government to fix the airlines. And medical care is available to all – I am aware of no hospital that is allowed to turn someone away from the emergency room. Are you? And the funds allocated in 2005 to repair roads and bridges hasn’t been spent yet.
Next?
Mar 2, 2009 - 9:50 am 12. Lynn:Howard Veit, you really need to go to Washington right now and spend some time viewing two fantastic exhibits at the Library of Congress — one on the foundations of democracy and the other on Lincoln. Also, I strongly recommend a visit to Mount Vernon to make you think about potential solutions to our ills. This country is incredibly fragile and always has been. It exists because of individuals making things happen, usually in spite of partisan politics, not because of them. If you want/think/expect the government to come up with solutions, you are ALWAYS going to be disappointed at best. I used to think very much like you do. My understanding of history came from highly regarded private schools and an Ivy League university. I lived in Europe for a while. I worked actively on Democratic political campaigns. I thought I really understood democracy. But it’s funny how blinkered we are and how much received wisdom we accept unquestioningly. If you go back to the original sources, and read the documents and drafts of documents and the philosophical underpinnings from which our founding fathers drew to create these documents, I bet, if you allow yourself, you will begin to view the contemporary landscape in a different way. It’s frightening to do so, but also liberating. Forget all the arguments you hear on the internet, forget what your professors told you when you were in school. Just go back and look for yourself. You may be very surprised at the conclusions you draw.
