Writing from Paris, Michel Gurfinkiel explains the hard reality behind the disappointment many of us are feeling with French President Nicolas Sarkozy:
In 2007, nationalism seemed to be gone for good, as Nicolas Sarkozy, a supporter of Nato, a friend of America and an open admirer of Israel, was elected president. Two years later, however, France is clearly relapsing into its former pro-Arab and pro-Islamic options. Not for grand strategy reasons any more, but out of sheer domestic concerns : France, once a Western, White country with a Christian background, is morphing into a multicultural, multiethnic and multireligious nation, with a strong Islamic element.
Like most other Western countries, and in spite of its nationalistic posturing, France has ingathered large numbers of alien immigrants for decades, mostly from the third world : either citizens of the former colonies in North Africa, Subsaharan Africa, the Levant, the Indian Ocean, the Far East, or citizens of other Middle Eastern or tropical countries, or even « cultural aliens », i. e. French citizens from overseas territories in the West Indies, the Indian Ocean and Oceania, who settled, or were induced to settle, in France proper. In the long run, it has led to a dramatic demographic and societal transformation.
Well, we knew that. But Gurfinkiel updates us on how things have only gotten worse among the”Neo-French” since Gaza:
On the Right, President Sarkozy characterized the Israeli military operations against Hamas, on their very onset, as « disproportionate ». Upon his subsequent visits to the Middle East, while insisting on Israel’s right to security, he never questioned the validity of the Hamas rule in Gaza. On March 2, he cancelled the speech he had agreed to deliver at the annual dinner of Crif, the Representative Council of the French Jewish Organizations, as he had done the previous year ; he just dropped by a few minutes before the dinner, and then left.

1. Pops in Vienna:Well, to paraphrase the great Rev. Wright….it appears that France’s pigeons have come home to roost.
I guess I should feel sorry for them, but I don’t. They’ve brought this upon themselves. America will follow a similar course, it will just take a little longer.
There’s a radio talk show host who speaks about the importance of border, language and culture but unfortunately he’s viewed as a nut.
Israel is so corrupt and the government so filled with greedy politicians that it will probably cave in from within before Hamas or the Iranians ever attacks them. Too bad because a generation ago it was something to be admired.
With Obama being an anti-semite, Israel is toast anyway, regardless of what the Euroweenies say or do.
Mar 18, 2009 - 8:42 am 2. marek:Pops,
The politicians in Israel are about as greedy as the politicians in EU, the States and other western countries. Obama’s antisemitism isn’t any worse (yet) than that of many EU leaders. The real danger lies in the not so distant future when Europe will become an Eurabia and Israel will really become very isolated. But Israel went through a much more dangerous episode in 1967 so I wouldn’t bet yet on Israel caving in.
Mar 18, 2009 - 9:54 am 3. Gaffe Prices:I want to know just who’s responsible for this. In France, Mister Chirac was the main culprit of collusion with the Saudi (Wahhab) master plan of Islamic expansion (behind the scenes and under cover of shadows), and in Britain, in the full light of day, (and at the very same time) key members of the labor party would lobby for the immigration of Moslems in House of Commons almost exclusively as though it were sound, prudent policy, even though it undermined their very own Labour constituency.
I guess the O’Henry-esque *surprise* ending in all this is that Moslems don’t see themselves as the pathetic brown babies of Liberal Noblesse Oblige, the waifs, the beneficiaries if you will, of generous welfare state salvation, cute and grateful and all, when they lookup, and preciously ask so politely- “Can we have some more?”
I suppose there were contra-indication to this, oh, I don’t know, perhaps the U.N mandate solution for partition of newly Independent Israel into Israel and “Palestine” of 1948, and the war that followed, The U.N mandate for Partition of India and “Pakistans” (another made-up name) east and west, which the ol’Sove-yet yunyun curiously signed onto, restraining their “security” council veto pen), 1967, 1973, oh, Rome and Vienna Airports 1984, Lockerbie Scotland 1989, New York 1993, Oklahoma City 1995…
They were putting some serious, albeit modest, down payment on the carnage that was to come, and I could go on but the point is made, and besides, whenever these “inconveniences” crop up it only goes to show that the Liberals were right all along and we need more, not less immigration anyway.
Obama, and even dread President Bush made great strides in this area, what with Bush’s clearance for young, eager Saudi “students” to “emigrate,” (temporarily, of course, and on student visas, and yes, I’m sure the paperwork is in order) in the number of ten thousand, to further their educations here, and 0bama has picked up the slack for always neglected non-state “Palestinians” who just want the same ‘educational opportunities” that those Saudis over there always seem to be first in line for.
Progress has been made on the multi-cultural front, and there is much further work to do, and that progress will grind to a halt if we give in to the incessant carping of these “Quality of results” types, when it has always been Equality of results that is the French paradigm, and one the rest of the world needs to catch up to.
here, here
Mar 18, 2009 - 2:32 pm 4. Gaffe Prices:Ho boy, you proofread and you proofread, hacking typo’s into gobs of readable prose, and you leave out the main element of your point, namely that it was young Prince Jacques Chirac, long before he was crowned King of (all) France, who began this liaison with Saudi kingpens, back in the late 60’s and 70’s.
I think it was Melannie Phillips, Claire Berlinski, Bat Yeor, Dore Gold or all the above, who compiled the dossier of what went down, that got us here.

That bad, huh?
Mar 18, 2009 - 6:04 pm 6. glenn:Lots of similarities between France and the US, probably why I like it in France. But like the U.S. France decided that it was unfair to expect Frenchmen to actually work if they didn’t want to. So they hired the North Africans, mostly Arabs, to prune the grapes and clean the streets and wash the dishes. We Americans should give thanks every day that we got the Mexicans.
Mar 18, 2009 - 7:40 pm 7. Fen:So, will the Islamic Bomb be Paki or French?
Or both?
Mar 18, 2009 - 7:52 pm 8. Your Boss:Glenn;
Speaking for the time before the currect crisis …
France had a high unemployment rate but the immigrants always managed to find work. That’s because the natives wouldn’t get their hands dirty.
Americans had a very low unemployment rate. They don’t like to do the dirty jobs but will do them if there aren’t more pleasant jobs available. Being out of work for a very long time is considered somewhat shameful by most Americans, the opposite of the Euro attitude.
Mar 19, 2009 - 11:09 am 9. Marie Claude:he cancelled the speech he had agreed to deliver at the annual dinner of Crif, the Representative Council of the French Jewish Organizations
Oh, I see that’s the trouble, from where comes the article
as fantaisist as possible, I got to get the right infos again
Défendant le droit d’Israël à sa sécurité, M. Sarkozy a également rappelé que “les Palestiniens doivent avoir un Etat” et qu’”un accord d’ici la fin de l’année est parfaitement possible” OK, it hurts, but that’s not only Sarkozy’s position, everywhere in the world it is advocated, but only a few radicals can’t stand it, as far as me they all can get their sunnyside omelette
umm got to post swallowed

bizarre, numbers differ from Mr Gurfinkel, his article is offensive and irrelevant
May-be that has somethin to do with the supposed discussions between Sarko and the Pals
