I don't wanna burst anyone's bubble but the victory only secures the status quo, it doesn't solve anything yet. In other words, it just made sure things didn't get worse. I'm Lebanese and i voted for the march 14th alliance, so the victory is good news, but the fact of the matter is that Hezbollah still has its weapons and their coalition forms more than a third of parliament. Their rag-tag local axis of evil, which includes the Lebanese communist party and the social-nationalist revolutionary party, which is basically a crypto-nazi group (That's right folks, Islamism, Fascism and Communism: The great evils of our times all bunched up into one putrid mass of obscurantism. Crows of a feather flock together.) is still going to be a force to be reckoned with in the political life of the country. Still, it is a step forward. There was no bloodshed either, and that is surely a cause for optimism.

If Allah was on the Islamists' side, how would you explain Israel? How would you explain a rag-tag group of Jews defeating army after army of Arabs? It calls to question their entire belief system. That's why the mere existence of Israel is so terrifying to them, and why they will never stop fighting for its destruction.

Yes, it's fun to watch the leftist ladies deal with Sarah Palin. Dear old Camille Paglia, the last honest lib, loves her...in an academic, cultural analyst kind of way :-)

Check out this pathetic attempt to steal this amazing victory of the Lebanese people, and credit it to none other than Joe Biden:

http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/mesh/2009/06/bidens-hardball-pays-off-in-lebanon/

This article, from the Middle East Strategy at Harvard, alleges that the reason Hezbollah was defeated in yesterday's Lebanese elections was not because of internal politics, nor the fact that Hezbollah went on a violent rampage through Beirut last year (which may have worried more than a few Christian swing voters). No, the reason why Hezbollah was defeated was... because of Biden's surprise visit to Lebanon last May! Yes, because his threat to cut off US financial assistance was enough to sway undecided Christians, who seem to have "gotten the message."

This is such a grasping at straws that even the comment section seems more substantive than the article itself. By this guy's logic, we could make half the world turn on a dime, simply by threatening to "review" our financial ties. I wonder how favorable this article would've been if, instead of Biden, it would've been Dick Cheney trying to strong arm foreign citizens into voting for a pro-US candidate...

Sarah scares them, cause shes real. Shes a real American success story. Shes not from wealth, no powerful family to give her a leg up. She just has grit and determination and wants to make a difference.

27 JL

Thank you for your support. I am now how ever retired, but as we say once a Marine always a Marine.

I would have to say that my biggest concern in my personal life how ever is my daughter who is presently in the Naval Academy in Annapolis she will be graduating next year as a Marine Lt. and her Commander And Chief will be of course, Obama. That scares me more than any thing else.

I am proud of every one of our guys and gals out there doing the job that nobody else wants to do. We dare not forget their mother and fathers. I know if it was not for my mother and father and the things they taught me I would not have survived it.

Thank you again.
Semper Fi.

<i>Last night HuffPo did decide to celebrate the election results, with this headline: “The Obama Effect? Pro-Western Majority Declares Victory Over Hezbollah In Lebanon”.</i>

Just like, I imagine, they celebrated Lebanon's Cedar Revolution, the Bush Effect. No? Huh.
