Maybe the fact that Barack and Obama are names this our new president chose himself attracts this ridicule. To my mind, it certainly makes jokes about it more acceptable.

If someone’s parents saddle him with a name like Rupert Pupkin, it’s impolite, childish and mean to mock him. But if Rupert Pupkin changes his name to Rudolfo Princely we have a right hoot.
