I am also looking forward to the movie. I laughed over the last 2 days, as some people were claiming that George Bush and his ilk are the equivalents of the Persians, not the Greeks. I guess that makes the beheaders and the suicide bombers who oppose Amreica true freedom fighters. I try to be open minded, but I honestly don't understand how some liberals can believe what they believe.

Professor Hanson's enthusiasm will send me to the theater. Otherwise, I might have hastily concluded from the trailer that the film is simply a computer enhanced sword & sorcery send-up lacking decorum and some breath or sense of antiquity. Hopefully, 300 will have that epic not just thrilling tone that captures the hinge-of-history significance of the historical event. Recalling the Richard Egan as Leonidas flick of years ago, I have to chuckle...will have to see if this old guy here can get used to Western history as semi-cartoon...I hopefully will be surprized, entertained, and uplifted.

Mr. Hanson-

I for one am really looking forward to your post regarding 300- the longer the better. I saw the trailer for the movie back in September and knew it was going be a LONG 7 months waiting for that movie. One of my first thoughts, however, after seeing the trailer, was, "What would Dr. Hanson think about this?" Fortunatly I found your earlier post regarding the movie and was delighted to see that you approved. I had recently read several of your books: Who Killed Homer? (having graduated from a Liberal Arts university with a degree in Philosophy, I can personally attest to the accusations you make in it), The Western Way of War, Carnage and Culture, and A War Like No Other. I want to thank you for writing such impressive works and will look forward to reading more in the future.
