I think That Obama was considered unelectable ,too, pretty early on in the last campaign. As for the reading and studying part, there is a difference. I think Sarah Palin studies, Barack Obama reads.

I have no political affiliation. As one who is free from the inherent constraints of any political persuasion, I consider myself unbiased. I think Sarah Palin and her followers are remarkable people. I have never seen a person with such a limited intellectual capacity overreach so far past their abilities, with such staunch support from people with similar limitations. It is a scary thing to watch, because by some catastrophe of history Sarah could become President. But it is thrilling to watch... acts of insanity always are.

Yes, Palin needs to load up on gravitas.

I wonder if Mike Huckabee is quietly doing so. If the country is in trouble in 2012 and Huckabee holds his own with venomous MSM interviewers, he will have a real chance.

(My intention is to speculate dispassionately. Huckabee reminds of Nixon. I do not support him.)

And I'll add that for reasons I can't quite put my finger on, this is one of the Hanson columns I've liked best.

Oh, BTW, I'm nuts about Palin.

I agree with Krauthammer. Sarah isn't presidential material. This whole republican "elites" conjured up by the "base" is a crock. Are we talking about "elites" like Ann Coulter of Greenwich, Ct? Have any of you people ever been to Greenwich? Honestly, if you're looking for conservative christian to vote for who stands for "Joe six pack" then Mike Huckabee would be a better choice. At least he knows a few things about the world outside of what his advisers tell him. However, I guess he's not as "attractive" a candidate to you guys.

#210: Pops in Vienna- <i>"I’ll stick with the Alaskan hillbilly. I trust her and that’s more I can say about anybody else in Washington."</i>

You hit the nail right square on the head: she's the only person whose worthy of our trust, and that should be the paramount issue addressed by all the others, especially on our side, but isn't, except for Sarah Palin.

203. sheepish:

Still missing the point. Pasting the title of an article here as if it is your own thinking proves what exactly? Taken out of context it is an absurd statement, which would be the norm for you, I believe.

BTW, you do realize that "sheesh" is a common euphemism for sh*t, right?

PA:

I do not see a need to change the arrangement now, the arrangement being the one between our government and the citizens of this country. In other words, the arrangement codified in our constitution.

The freedom I'm referring to is freedom from government interference in our personal lives (speech, religion, etc.) I agree that, in large part, abuses of personal freedom have led to a considerable decline in our culture. I would, however, not look to government to rectify this situation.

Democracy is messy, and freedom carries with it the potential for abuse. That's a trade off I'm willing to accept. Freedom also carries with it responsibility. It is up to us to change the course our culture is taking. We need to elect political leaders who truly reflect our cultural norms. Judging by recent events, we have not done a very good job at this. As a first step toward cleaning up the mess we've made of our culture I offer a modest proposal: Shoot your TV.
