Make Mine a Double

Some headlines from RCP, Drudge, and elsewhere this morning:

ABC TURNS PROGRAMMING OVER TO OBAMA; NEWS TO BE ANCHORED FROM INSIDE WHITE HOUSE

Obama seeks to ‘give government new powers to seize key companies’

Stimulus Program Full of Waste

Backsliding on Terrorism

Health Reform is All Downside for Most Americans

US industrial output tumbles 1.1 percent in May

And yet the big protest planned for today is against… David Letterman? I’m starting to think we’ve already been bought off with bread and circuses.

UPDATE: This sounds about right, but apparently some folks won’t be pleased until Letterman has a “Apology accepted, Captain Needa” moment.

Accept the apology and move on. The Left stayed in full bore BDS over every conservative the past 8 years. I do not intend to due the same thing to myself — staying mad at everyone on the Left. Does not profit me any.

Yeah, I agree. While Letterman’s jokes were crass, to keep hammering on this is tiresome. Mrs. Palin has a sense of humor and can take a joke with the best of them, as enduring the 08 campaign proves, but I don’t want to be aligned with a completely humorless vendetta over this.

No! It is essential that a laser-like focus be upon the evil David Letterman until he quits or gets fired!

He’s a child-unfriendly pervert who must be fired or else our nation’s morals will be forever corrupted by his sinful nature and…oh, fuck it. I can’t even believe anyone would think this would matter one bit. Everyone knows that if Letterman gets fired it will only mean that Jimmy Kimmel’s days are numbered.

The Palins have accepted the apology, and although I think Letterman still gets a lot wrong in his explanation he at least seems to “get,” now, that he was indeed wrong to tell such a joke without taking more care.

So maybe he hasn’t been entirely Manhattanized. Maybe there’s still a little bit of Indiana (or wherever the hell he’s from) left in him after all. Anyway, in my opinion if the Palins are satisfied with how this business has played out, nobody else has any right not to be.

I liked Letterman when he began, but after he decided that he was an ‘important personage with opinions of significance’, well, I haven’t watched in years. Which actually describes perfectly my ‘take’ on the hollywood (self)illuminati’d in general.

It helps if you think of it as the Funniest End of Civilization Ever. (Now with caps)

and what did it get them except complete and perhaps perpetual dominance over every branch of government?
