Wow . Holding your breath doesn't begin to cover the anxiety. Yesterday morning the Navy forecast model had a track of Ike coming right down our main canal and over our house . At 8 feet above sea level we knew it would all be gone . That is a sobering thing to occupy your idle mind. But this morning some poor souls further up the coast are facing annihilation. May God have mercy on those people.

Everyone is holding their breath on this one. They really don't have this down to an exact science. Gustav was supposed to be far worse than it was and now this one...and how many others this season?

The question I will be looking at is will Ike get far enough into open water to maintain it's organization. Regardless, the entire island of Cuba is getting raked.

It's going to be a bad year for cigars. (kidding, the effects are terrible.)

I'm watching the loops, and I see a course due westward, with the center set to cross back into open water in a matter of hours. Maybe the turn to the northwest that every model projects is about to materialize. But even if it does, the delay makes it increasingly likely that the center will at least cross the Gulf of Ana Maria. Tough to know precisely what this portends, but I'm a little surprised - the models are tightly clustered, and (with the possible exception of UKMET) none projected a westward course lasting this long.
